Who believes that Lennox "The Lion" Lewis could still contend for a title in today's Hevyweight Division???... At the advanced age of 42, I truly believe that he could give everyone from Ruslan Chagaev to Wladimir Klitschko a fierce fight... So, in all honesty, could Lennox Lewis make a successful comeback in 2008???...:boxing:

He could prove how diminished the division is...:boxing:
That wouldn't help boxing out whatsoever, it would actually make things worse than they already are.
Lewis has made it known multiple times that he is secure with his legacy and that he has no drive to go back into boxing. there have always been rumors, especially with that whole Klitschko vs. Lewis ridiculousness...but Lennox has always waved them off.
and i dont want to be mean about todays divison, but honestly, other than a select few...most of the contenders would get beat up by say the 90s eras. guys like prime Tua, Mercer, Bruno, coming out of jail Tyson, younger Holyfield would pretty much beat everyone other than Klitschko, and maybe some others due to style matchups, because that does matter.

I'm quite sure I was attending boxing bouts before you were even born, son...
i don't care, nor does it matter how long you have attended boxing matches. the way you are coming off makes it sound as though you have fallen into the same trap as nearly everyone has. truth is that almost everybody believes that the boxing they grew up watching was "the good old days" when the division was great and filled with talent. another trap is that fans will also create/beleive in better images of a division if it contained one of their all time favorite fighters.
next, don't ever call me son. do you think i am some wet behind the ears 16 year old who just started watching boxing a year or two ago? i have been following boxing for over a decade and have trained in martial arts for nearly 14 years. i know a little something about fighting.
i will also apologize since it seems that i have i come off a bit harsh. if you have been around here for a little while, you would know that the "division is weak" bullshit gets thrown around quite a bit from people whose fave heavyweight isn't doing so well or a heavyweight they hate is - so it sounds more like a childish statement and less like a well thought critical statement.
now, drop the attitude and have some more goddamned respect than calling me "son." do that and we could get along just fine.
enough of this shit. the division is not that fuckin' bad! there could be a couple more top guys, but then people would still say the same shit anyways.
buddy, why don't you watch boxing for another 20 years or so before you make a statement about what is diminished and what isn't.
now, about the thought that lewis may be able to still win fights.......
i do think lewis could win a majority of fights out there if he was in the very top shape he could be in and had over 100 rounds of sparring before a fight.
sam peter would give him some trouble and wladimir would beat/punish him. vitali, if healthy, would do the same. other than those three, he has a decent chance i feel. now, if byrd was in top shape and sharpened his game again, that could be a fun(or rather interesting) fight since they really should have fought already.

I mean the guy was no Ali.
don't believe the hype. ali was great. among the really great heavies, but can we stop acting like there is such thing as the greatest of all time - in any sport?
True... but Lewis never seemed to garner the exposure his talents deserved... If he made a comeback and won a title, he would certainly gain his long deserved respect and fame by capturing a belt at 42 years old...:boxing:
And if he didn't capture the belt and got beaten by one of the Klit bros, that would effect his legacy a little. I think Lewis got the exposure his talents deserved through out his career. I mean the guy was no Ali.
That's true.
But, the guy's 42 years old, got shit loads of money. I guess from his point of view why would be want to?
That's one of the things I like about Lewis he knew when to Retire and that was while he was a head. Holyfield still fighting just shows how poor the HW division is.

Att: NO.
He's not hungry anymore.
Lewis is happy agreeing with everyone on HBO. Why risk his legacy in a comeback fight. He doesn't have anything left to prove.

Probably, especially if Maskaev beats Peter, then that would be a good starting point, which would also break the record for the oldest total age of a world championship fight.
OR
Even better, if Holyfield beats Ibragimov, then the two fighters ages would be something ridiculous like 87.
Word.
