Ok, way too many Hatton/Mayfairy threads of late, so I think we should discuss something worthwhile tonight.
Lately Everyone seems to think That tough man shit where the ripped dudes grope each other into submission is overtaking our beloved sport. That may, or may not be true. Lets assume for a minute that it is true. That said, why?
How can a bunch of obviously inferior athletes be more entertaining than the most skilled fighters in the world? How can guys that fall down and wrestle for 10 minutes be what people want to see?
I have my own opinions, but this is more about an overall consensus.
How can A chuck Lidell or Quentin Jackson generate more interest than a Floyd Mayweather, or a Ricky Hatton.
Thoughts.
And yes like everything else I'm sure this has been done before, but opinions do change. So if you don't have a thought pertaining to THIS subject just move along!
MMA is the best fighters, Boxing is the best boxers. Boxing has also moved away from its fight-sport roots and therefore has lost its place as the top fight-sport option, which was why it was on top to begin with. If UFC had been around in 1920 and Boxing had just as many bums and runners as it does today, UFC would have utterly crushed it. Boxing right now is running on vapors from its storied history and the few and proud boxers that know how to put the "fight" in "prize fight"(pacquiao, Gatti, cotto, Hatton, Pavlik etc...).
The market for straight up boxing(olympic style and points based) simply does not exist, just like the market for fencing is non-existent. Amateur and Pro-boxing can be compared to some extent with amateur and pro-wrestling, in that both "professional" models rule sets are designed to create an entertainment market, not strictly judge a sport(yes I know wrestling is fake, but it is fake for the same reason that pro boxers dont wear headgear).
Rampage is the man. He's got alot of personality. He comes across as funny and comical and just putting on a little show for the camera. Not fake like Floyd.
But that's another story..
Must you include Floyd in every post. What does he have to do with rampage brotha?
Ramapage is good for sports in general, definitely one of my favorite fighters ever since he pouinded Chuck out in Pride. They can coexist with one another, and they make each other better so there is room for both, for sure.
Boxing can really determine how good you are. I don't know much about MMA, and I hate it. Something about two men being all over each other makes me not wanna watch.
well this is just one of the things i think when i think ufc vs boxing, in the ufc it took Rampage 1 fight in the ufc before he got a rematch with chuck, not since 2002-2003, which is when ppl started talkin ricky vs floyd, the fights and the fans come first in the ufc its cool, im boxin guys take 6 month out sometimes just to train for a big fight, ufc guys fight for shit money and the sheer love of fighting
