I've heard that Sam Soliman has always possesed an extremely awkward boxing technique, but managed to string together a very solid record complete with bouts against World Champions and top-tier opposition... In these match-ups he always held his own by befuddling his competition with his herky jerky movement and wild punching positions, yet in his most recent bout that aired on The Contender: Season 3 against Max Alexander, Soliman's performance appeared unusually ugly and amateurish... He was constantly off-balance and freely launched wild shots at Alexander... Why was did Sam appear so un-talented against Max, and how did he do so well with his against World Class opponents???... I can't really fathom how Soliman competed with Winky Wright for 12 Rounds based on his performance on ESPN...:boxing:
im not suprised he did well against winky... think about it, winky is more defensive than a senator in the mens room, so some1 throwing from just about everywhere in the ring could go on and make it a close fight with him. As soon as sam gets in there with a slick, but offensive boxer with a little pop he is in trouble.
Unusually awkward performance even for Soliman.
But then he was in against a guy who was 6'3, & who turned out to be southpaw when everyone thought he was orthodox, so maybe not so surprising.
Soliman really should be at Junior-Middle rather than Super-Middle as well.
The thing is Soliman is the one who made the fight & did most of the work, even though Alexander had all the physical tools to beat him.
hes awkward. hes hard to beat..he is wild with his punches but throws so much that its hard to aviod and outbox him u kno.. i saw the winky fight winky won clearly, but the crowd loved solimans heart and will..
i like his lil training split with that small doode on the contender.. you gotta respect it..
i was also very very happy he won cuz i hate max alexander.. i dunno why hes fighting supermiddle..
i guess u havent seen the winky fight
he threw punches non stop and he wuz all off balance
it wuz retarded looking really
Exactly. It looked so bad. I doubt he could knock out an 60 yo crack head with that sort of power.
Thats how he fights, its crazy, ive seen some of his earlier fights and thats how he fought then too. He has no form what so ever, he has incredible stamina, but it seems to me like he just throws punches to throw punches.
i like sam soliman.. hes got a great attitude for the sport. hes a good person, and is very serious about his work.. very likable, and awkward.. he seems like he has a really good relationship w his wife..
hes in incredible shape i admire his work ethic..
But It Seems He Is More Interested In His Conditioning, Than His Actual Boxing Skills

Alexander had the ultimate trump card. NOONE knew he boxed southpaw as his dominant stance. If he used that card he would have pulled out a victory. Sam was not on his A game, Max must of been a very awkward opponent to fight. The sign of a true champion is still pulling out the victory though

Did you see his fight against Winky? I think he looked terrible in that fight as well. He was just awkward for Winky. Sam always looks like he's about to fall over.
Well he didn't really had time to prepare for Max as he did with Winky. I'm sure that he watched tapes of Winky and figured out his style beforehand. Alexander switching to southpaw doesn't help either when he was sparring as orthodox in the gym.
About the offbalance thing though, he always appears to be. He was a wildman against Winky, but did suprisingly well in some rounds against him.
