Who do y'all think could be the next PPV king after De La Hoya,my thought is if Chavez Jr. is the goods he would sell like crazy, another person i think that could do it is Miguel Cotto if he keeps winning, maybe even Kelly Pavilik or Juan Diaz, just my opinions
Pavlik.. MORE and MORE he makes me think he could beat Taylor.. But... Winky and Bernard beat him and still lost so... lol...
Agree.......Pavlik could be a PPV king if he shows he's the real thing by knocking off Taylor. His style is exciting to watch. Wlad Klitch has the potential but I don't think he'll make it because of his glass jaw.
I would say most of stewards guys: Wladmir, Cintron, Andy Lee (a wicked southpaw irish prospect). If jermain actually listens to steward in his fight with pavlik and has a good showing, he will be a draw again. I think an all Kronk card would go over huge on PPV: "Knights of Knock Outs"
David "Hayemaker" Haye if he comes to the U.S. and successfully fills out his frame as a heavyweight.
he's exciting as hell, he's got speed and insane pop in those punches. he's got the looks to bring in the ladies like oscar did. he seems like the type that could end up in some hollywood love triangle that gets on all the gossip shows and magazines.
Cotto's fighting style says he could be, but he's not much of a talker, he's basically the opposite of Tito outside the ring. He keeps to himself and doesn't really flaunt much.
I think Mayweather could easily be a PPV king, since the fight with Oscar, his fight with Hatton, if he fights the winner of Cotto-Mosley, he could easily do SICK PPV numbers.
Also perhaps Taylor (should he beat Pavlik and continually improve).
Mayweather could have been a PPV king had he made the DLH fight more exciting. With record breaking PPV buys, he had a chance to attract A LOT of customers. But the fight didn't live up to the hype and I think the remach wouldn't have made close to what the first one did.
Can you imagine if the DLH fight was similar to marquez/vazquez or pavlik/miranda? whoever oscars victorious opponent was that night would have became the next PPV star.
Due to there crowd pleasing styles I would say Cotto and Juan Diaz. I would throw Pavlik in there if he beats Taylor. It would be huge for Cotto if he were to beat Mosley, and if Diaz can get a unification bout an beat Cassamayor which I think he will when given the oppurtunity.
At the moment, Duddy is in no way prepared for Pavlik... A good test for him would be fellow undefeated prospect, Peter Quillin 1st... But Duddy seems to have the package for ticket sale success and talent to boot
I dont know alot about Qullin but don't you think Duddy will contend for the title in the future?
going back to 15 round fights would help this. It would root out the guys who's passion and heart are not completely in the game and fight only for mo ney. The Championship rounds.
hopefully nobody. Boxing should be good enough to the point where enough people demand it be seen on regular TV.
guys like Pavlik and some others coming are to this end.
Jorge Linares... Maybe.. Soto, on a smaller scale, if he beats Pacman and/or Guzman impressively.... Pavlik if he does what he needs to on ABC and against Taylor.
John Duddy
Danny how do you think John would fair against Pavlik? Before the Miranda fight this matchup was kinda being hyped.
I think Duddy will become a top contender the future, this fight might happen.
that was my thread too,but yeah
I thought it was made by a guy named King Tito. I forgot about Floyd, if he doesn't put on an exciting fight (I can appreciate it but I mean exciting to the casual audience) than I think his PPV buys will go higher and higher.
Dela Hoya lost to Mosley and it didn't do any damage to his popularity. If Cotto doesn't beat Mosley but puts on action packed fight he'll still have fans and gain even more. It's sometimes more about how you fight that makes you a star more so than remaining undefeatd.
that's true u have a point
but i also dont believe cotto has the qualities that can make a boxer a star
not hating on him or anything he's a decent fighter
but i guess only time will tell
You made this thread because of the other thread talking about the golden boy, am I right?
I really don't see anyone at this particular point and time that can be as popular as Oscar. I mean someone like him comes around once a decade.
that was my thread too,but yeah
cotto is going to end up losing to mosley or mayweather
and i dont see pavlik beating taylor
but that is a good question though
