If Ricky Hatton comes in bright eyed and bushy tailed with a hard on, then his bout with Pretty Boy Floyd lines up as great. But, will a fight break out? That depends on matters discussed here before. On the other hand, the Kelly Pavlik-Jermain Taylor fight is guaranteed to spill over into the stands.
Kelly Pavlik is a fighting force of nature. He reminds me of a Joe Calzaghe with devastating punching power (not running down Joe Cal here, just telling it like it is). He also has a good chin. If you want to discuss possible upsets, this is the one, assuming Pavlik goes off as the underdog at fight time.
Jermain Taylor, a genuine good guy, is in his prime and can hit real hard. But, his two decisions over the ancient Bernard Hopkins were too close for comfort. Even though B Hop is still a formidable fighter, Taylor's reputation and record suggested that he should have won those fights on young legs going away. He wasn't even close. In fact, in my opinion his lost one of those fights.
Neither Taylor nor Pavlik is the best defensively, so expect offensive fireworks and blood shed. This brings me to Taylor's chin, which has not been tested. It will in this fight. Jermain Taylor is going to get hit like he never has before and I'm not convinced he will survive it (rhetorically speaking).
This fight reminds me of Joe Calzaghe v. Jeff Lacy. Pick Pavlik for a KO/TKO upset.
Wiley Hyena
other notable past picks:
Calzaghe over Lacy; Pacquiao over Barrera; Hatton over Castillo; Mayweather over Baldomir; Pacquiao over Morales II; Rafael Marquez over Israel Vasquez I; Israel Vasquez over Rafeal Marquez II; Antonio Tarver over R. Jones Jr. by knockout; and all time greatest prediction: Holyfield over Tyson I by knockout. Average: 100%.
yeah i think youre nuts basically about the odds
the fight is basically even money with very slight variations at every respectable sportsbook
the book i personally used has lowered the payout on pavlik recently indication that most money is coming in on him.
the odds will probably shift towards pavlik even more by fight time and he will likely go off as a very slight favorite himself
Well, I don't really care what you think about me. Even tho I personally favor Pavlik to win, I believe that Taylor will go off the favorite because he is the proven commodity. Therefore, this could be a very good betting fight.
Well I'm picking Pavlik. But obviously, Taylor will go off the favorite. I'd say 3-1 by fight time. Any thoughts on this?

I predict no KO's on September 29th. I'd be suprised if either guy is knocked down. I don't think this will be the best fight of the year(my bet is Cotto-Mosley) but it will entertain. Anything is better than Jermain's last fight. Jermain by SD.
ohhhh.....what crackhouse are you posting from? If Taylor gets on his bike, he gets caught. If Taylor gets off his bike, he gets beat. Either way, this is not going to be another Mayweather track meet. This one is going to have offensive fireworks. Taylor is going to have to throw down and it's going to be very interesting, indeed.
I pick Pavlik by tko,but if he loses who will it raise questions for,Taylor for being lackluster in his last fights ,or Pavlik but then it really depends on the outcome

I have only seen 2 of Pavlik's fights so my analysis can't be spot on but from what I have seen I can tell you this. Pavlik is a fighter who comes forward, one hell of a chin, and power in both fists. In his fight with Edison Mranda he exposed Edison for not having much technical ability. Edison swung wide and Kelly shot right up the middle and IMPOSED HIS WILL. I wouldn't call him a mindless brawler like some people do because technically people underate his technical ability, he definitely was not swinging as wildly as Edison was. To beat Kelly you have to switch up between boxing and brawling, with the latter being used sparringly. I say Jermain should box Kelly and keep him at the end of his punches. The one flaw I saw with Kelly is when he was in the middle of the ring (which Jermain STILL doesn't realize that he beats EVERYONE in the middle of the ring) he wasn't nearly as effective as he was when he had Edison on the ropes. Jermain needs to stop all that bullshit backpeddling into the ropes and he needs to keep it in the middle of the ring, use that monster jab that seems to have gone away, and brawl when he has the upper hand and can go for the kill. Jermain can SAY he is going to stand toe to toe but he will only do so at certain times, when he has the upper hand, and when Kelly is already hurt. Jermain hasn't had a knockout in a while so I don't know if he would get one against a stone chined Pavlik but I will give him a UD, since Manny Steward will have one hell of a gameplan.

Good analysis skills. I also think that if Jermain would use his AMAZING jab h could easily win all his fights and a lot more by knockout but he never seems to do this. The only way I see him winning is to stay off the ropes and when he trades flurry and get out. Pavliks defense is leaky at times and if he can flurry and get out he will score a lot of points on the cards. Jermain by UD I think in this one.
Skills: How would you describe Pavlik's style?

pavlik took miranda´s shots with ease, had his gameplan and wanted to back him up, and while doing so, he beat the shit out of him. he will take taylors best, to dish out his best.
taylors chin is questionable, can he take it, to give it..i dont think so..
pavlik by rape and ko..!
what we have seen, is a taylor, who doesnt follow instructions, a taylor who is easely backed up, even by smaller fighters and those with much less fire power then pavlik.
in every round, pavlik is going to put pressure on, and make taylor fight backwards, which for some is good, but for me spells his doom. taylor doesnt look good under pressure, even winky made him back up, and when he did, made taylor look bad. that just doesnt work against pavlik.
i must say though, that eventhough tayloer has looked bad, he has fought top notch fighters, which translates to, that you wont look good every round, in every fight.. i respect taylor, for his choices, he has boxed the best in his div, and should recieve praise for doing so.. but everything has to come to an end, and it will when he gets beaten bad by pavlik.
Im with ANGELO DUNDEE on this one who said: "on fight nite, anyone is subject to beating anyone." (paraphrase). However, I like JERMAINE TAYLOR over PAVLIK (by kayo). Why? Pavlik has slow feet AND slow hands, in comparison. Beaten to the punch, caught by the speed of Taylor as he runs into a punch. And, pardon the pun, but Pavlik is Taylor-made for Jermaine. He keeps coming looking for that puncher's chance. Don't sleep tho, Jermaine packs a wallop! inside 7 rounds (stoppage or kayo for Taylor).
That's like when Floyd said it would be a toe to toe battle with Oscar, we all knew he would stick and move and only stand toe to toe sparringly.

Well, Taylor's camp, evidently, said they were going "toe to toe" with Pavlik. Is that just B.S. or not?

Nah dude, I think our styles vary a bit... you hate Mayweather, and he's my boy.
Me and SkillsPayDaBills might have to challenge you one of these days though.
Let's be real here if me and Dwiens team up we would work that tag team of Wiley and easton, BK style, lol.

I think its BS ... but a slug out would be exciting to see
can you believe that because of all the cancellations with other fights ... Taylor/Pavlik will be the only championship fight to be shown in the month of September?
taylor is going to get knocked the fuck out, he can't run for 12 rounds. little ouma was able to trap taylor in the corner and swell up his eye with clubbing right hooks, when taylor makes a mistake, pavlik will catch him and finish him off
