I feel for this guy. He has been consistantly calling out some of the best fighters in the sport...and when he finaly gets his chance he proves he can deffanatly hang with world class opponants and do well. But almost remenisant of winky wright no one will fight him because he can hang with the best. Because he didnt realy beat cotto no one is like obligated to fight him but its obvious he deserves the big fights. What can malignaggi do?
Do you guys think he will ever get his big fights?
Do you guys think im a complete retard?
malignaggi is improving under mcguirt so his potential is really unknown. Malignaggi will never be a super exciting KO fighter but he will mix it up. I like his jab and movement and that alone could take him far. His predictions,,, very entertaining.
well as of now none. (no victories over elites at least) so he can't really call anyone out
but its give and take ... seriously what elite fighters did P-Will fight before getting that title shot vs Tony Margarito?
the best thing Paulie can do right now, is win. (obviously winning impressively would help as well)
outside of the belt holders and Hatton, there aren't any big fights for him at 140.
and his 5 KO's is no accident .. Paulie doesn't have much power, and that could make a huge difference cuz as slick a fighter as Paulie maybe he can't expect to hold off the bigger punchers at Welter if he can't keep them honest.
Oh jesus, if he fought at 147, can you imagine him trying to hold Margarito off with his love taps? Cotto has gotten stronger at 147, that would be an absolute slaughter in the rematch.
He should stay at 140.
What world class opponents?

When it comes to that, you just have to keep fighting and winning. You will get the recognition you deserve eventually, some of the new champions are much to impatient without making names for themselves, that's what they have to do first.
Malignaggi could hang with most of the second tier fighters, but once you hit elite status he simply doesn't have enough pop to make his opponents honest. Someone like Hatton would take a few just to pin him against the ropes then wale away. I can't see Malignaggi being any sort of legend.
I think Paulie is an exciting fighter... not only did he beat N'Dou, he did not lose a round... shut him out... Now most fights that are that one sided are unwatchable... I really enjoyed that fight...
Also, I think he can handle the guys he calls out, he has called out Hatton, I think that is a SuperFight at 140 especially if "the Magic Man" can fight a Harris or a Rees before, after his Dec. 1 against his mandatory... Especially after Ricky takes his beating against PBF, Hatton will want a fight at 140...
That would make it a unification fight thus "SUPER!"
Yeah after Cotto broke the orbital bone in Malignaggi's face he's been much more humble.
who else has he called out? cuz for the record all I know is Chavez Jr, Hatton and didn't he want a rematch at 147 vs Cotto? or I coulda sworn I heard him say that.
but yeah he may have a watered down, slightly devalued title, but after his mandatory coming up in December, I would expect Paulie to get a bigger fight at 140 or even 147.
Paulie's fighting Herman Ngoudjo later this year, possibly on Showtime's final card of the year. That's as good a fight as any for Malignaggi to prove that he has something to offer to the rest of the division.
He was valiant in defeat against Cotto, but has yet to nail that win where he leaves people saying "I can't wait to see him again." Right now, he's getting by on his personality (and in my own biased opinion, you can't ask for a more down-to-earth fighter - or person); he just needs to start delivering in the ring.
The N'Dou fight wasn't a bad starting point, in terms of credibility, but the fight wasn't exactly a Fight of the Year contender. Ngoudjo is hardly involved in stinkers, so this will be a good litmus test for Paulie, in terms of in-the-ring marketability and demand.
I wouldn't call Malignaggi the most down to earth guy out there. I think he has some arrogance to him. I'm not saying it's over the top obnoxious like a Floyd Mayweather or RJJ, but he's kinda cocky. Truthfully, I like Malignaggi. He's quick and I think he's learned to pick his shots carefully after the Cotto fight (which by the way I do agree he showed a lot of heart in). I'd like to see him have the chance to back himself up against the fighters he's called out. He deserves it.
Hatton would not have to hug Paulie as Paulie is not strong enough to hang with Ricky, Ricky would totally outbox him as he can box when he wants to very intelligently. He would also just over power Paulie
I can't even see Paulie beating Junior Witter either tbh
yeah he's what 22-1 and 26 years old?
after Herman in December, I say he should go for Witter.
Paulie may not win, but a semi unification with Witter (a Hatton nemasis) is probably the biggest fight for him.
GIVE HIM TIME HE WILL BE GREAT...IF YOU RUSH HIM HE COULD GET HURT
Malignaggi doesnt have much time. Hes not a young guy. And he has verry few fights because of his hand problems
People give Malignaggi credit for his LOSS to Cotto. Is it just me or does does anyone else feel that Cotto was severely limited in that fight. The weight loss he had to endure to make the 140 limit rendered him almost robot like and wasn't as fluid as he has been in his most recent performances. OK, Paulie showed tenacity and the will to hang in there against an elite fighter but take that fight to Welterweight and he gets stopped within 6.
I'd even pick Witter to beat him in an uninspired fight.
But in your opinion who should malignaggi fight? Is there any big name he can handle?
unfortunatly at 140 there aren't really that many big names. if Paulie really wants a fight with Hatton he should unify with the Harris/Witter winner and pick up the WBC belt.
Paulie has 2 things going against him, being at 140 where minus Hatton there aren't many names, and secondly his resume. minus losing to Cotto he has yet to have any real career defining victories to make him a "worthy fighter"
he did beat Lovemore N'Dou .. but even Lovemore has never been world class.
*Paulie might even have to go up to welterweight, which with his smaller frame of 5'7 could be crazy. granted Malignaggi does have quick hands and feet, but would it be enough to keep the bigger Welter's off him?
I dont think his feet and hands alone can do it. But pauli is a VERRY smart fighter. Between his brains hand and feet he can handle the welterweights
lack of resume .. still building up

I didnt even know that. thanks for the info.
