Did RJ duck Calzaghe, or was it that he didn't want to go overseas and get robbed like he did in the Olympics, and Calzaghe didn't want to fight here in the US at that time?
Not being sarcastic, I really wanna know.
Calzaghe was unknown in the US and Jones wanted $5mill to go to Wales
It's Calzaghe's fault for not going to the States. He wanted to be respected as a world champion in his own right, and basically just couldn't be bothered - he was content to fight once a year with one hand for 10 years against the worst world title opposition in history
Jones fought everyone from Hopkins to Toney to Hill to Griffin to Reggie Johnson and seeked fights with Eubank and Benn. Calzaghe meant no more to US fans than, say, Gonzales or Telesco or whoever - if he did then you wouldn't have picked a one-dimensional, muscle-bound Lacy to easily destroy him

To this day I still think Glen Kelly was paid to lay down, or at least he layed down so he wouldn't suffer anymore emberassment. That behind the back punch was exciting and great showmanship, but it was a damn love tap. Didn't turn it over. Didn't use any leverage. Not much speed.
I agree with what you're saying...I don't think that punch knocked out Glen Kelly. He'd been embarrassed and outclassed. When somebody does something like that to you enough is enough.
Arrogant, no way. Flashy, I doubt it.
The Jones TKO of Paz wasn't really arrogant, it was more brutal.
paz showed alot of clowning around, getting dropped by jones and still clowned around like he wasn't hurt, after te 2nd knockdown, he tasted 3 powerfull uppercutts that really ended his clowning around. :owned:

Rewatch the fight.
Kelly was knocked down twice before that in round 7 and that arrogant, clean right hand to the side of the head was the straw that broke the camels back.
Roy kicked his arse!!! I remember Jeff fenech saying to glen kelly in his corner JF Whats the matter glen dont you want to hit him??? GK Of course i do i just cant catch him!!!

No way man. Roy leaped with that punch and his whole body weight into it. Also if you watch it, you can barely see it land...that's how fast it is.
Who the fuck throws a 5-6 hook only combination and gets away with it against a quality opponent? Only Roy Jones. He did arrogantly dispatch away with Glen Kelly with that behind the back KO, but the way he did away with Vinny Paz was embarrassing and scary at the same time. NOBODY KO's a quality fighter like that but RJJ.
Right before he ko'd Bryant Brannon he told the ref "please stop the fight" the ref told him to keep going so he knocked him out to MAKE SURE the ref stopped it.

Roy didnt fight Joe because he didnt want to leave the US and Joe wouldnt leave Britian.
Roy has a good reason for not leaving the country. Does Calzaghe? Roy offered Calzaghe a 60/40 split (with Calzaghe getting the 60!) and he would have gone to the UK to face him. Calzaghe turned it down saying "he get's knocked down to much":wtf:
Benn and Eubank ducked him, but Roy avoided Calzaghe a bit, i think thats the only guy Roy has avoided, Michelszewski, Hopkins, Benn and Eubank all ducked Roy....

Could jones even handle eubank if eubank hit him? I doubt it, with that chin of his. Only way I give Jones a chance against Eubank is if Jones didn't get hit all night long. Even on his gloves he'd feel how hard eubank hits.
Go to 1:15 on this youtube video. Jones would not be able to take this punch at all. It would go through his glove protection and he would be ko'd.

the fuck you talking about? He throws two jabs at the heavy bag in that video.

Jones and Eubank is a very difficult one to call IMO. I do see Jones's reflexes winning him the day, though. Eubank wouldn't initate the action much but when he did Jones would have the reactions in the feet and super-fast triple hooks to counter Eubank's long punches from the outside (Eubank had poor balance on the frontfoot), he'd out-work him
I see a lot of stand-off's and Jones able to land just a few more potshots than Eubank can counters, even though Eubank had such good balance on the backfoot and judge of being just out of reach
I don't see Jones letting Eubank land his stiff jabs, he wouldn't stay in one spot for more than a second, if he's smart enough
I thought it was arrogant of Judah to ask the ref to stop Spinks II and then throw out his arms and batter Cory across the ring forcing the ref to stop it only seconds later - but it was sportsmanlike bravado for a world class pro as well.
What the fuck? There was one round in that fight in which he didn't land a single punch on Roy. I think it was the first time after CompuBox was established that a fighter was not credited for even one landed blow in a round.
That is 100% correct... it was the only time recorded at that point, and it hasn't been duplicated... I wish I would have known that when I watched the fight, but it got lost in a hard drive wipeout, so I don't have it anymore.
