To be honest, I'm not a big fan of either fighter, but I don't think Ricky Hatton possesses the skill set to dethrone Floyd Mayweather and I personally wouldn't want Hatton to be the first fighter to defeat Mayweather... The only reason I would want Hatton to defeat Mayweather is so Ricky could then fight Oscar De La Hoya, and The Golden Boy could deliver Hatton his first loss... It is evident that Oscar wants Hatton, because of his desire to have a "classic war" before he hangs up the gloves, and Ricky is his prime opponent... A pure puncher that refuses to step back and he happens to be smaller than De La Hoya... On the other hand, I don't think Hatton will realistically defeat Floyd and I must root for the USA in Mayweather... Also, I would like for Mayweather to suffer his first defeat at the hands of body snatcher extrodinaire, Miguel Cotto, rather than Ricky Hatton... Which boxer are you rooting for and why?:boxing: :boxing: :boxing:
I dont know. Me, personally, I think JMM is the more complete offensive fighter. Mayweather is a great athlete and relies on his physical tools more then anything. Like his quickness of hand and foot. In that regards he is unmatched. I think JMM finds offensive opponenings much easier then Mayweather. I admire Floyd as a fighter but I will be forever convinced that he lost his first fight to Castillo.
I guess JMM is more rounded, but he also gets hit a lot more than PBF. JMM is a beauty to watch, his counters are awesome. The thing that strikes me about Mayweather is that he has little power at higher weights, but through countering, offering awkward looks, he has most of his opponent closing shop after a few rounds. It's not like watching Castillo-Corrales, but I am always in awe of how he does that. I also like seeing him go offensive or stay in the pocket, but as you said, that's not his best asset.
Yeah, that was a good post. But I mean Sweat Pea fought more square on. He baited his opponents to throw and he would counter with precision. Was more of a pocket fighter in my opinion then Floyd Mayweather. Floyd fights sideways with a very awkward style. I like Pea's style much more.
That's I feel a "weakness" of Mayweather, because he cannot shoulder roll with left hands as well as rights from his stance. But I might be very wrong because i recall the punches which caught him were looping rights (corley, mitchell, is it the case?)

Not saying I dont like Pea's style, Pea is also incredibly impressive for different reasons.
just that Mayweather constant repositioning is really impressive given that the only other fighter I have seen (in color) doing samething comparable is a southpaw. I expect him to not be able to do that much against Hatton (Hatton throws many punches and, what I imagine will make it hard, from many angles), if he manages the fight might get boring, but it would be a boring masterpiece IMO.
I personally like better to watch Mayweather, but only because Pea's upper body movement kinda grosses me out, he looks like he is an eel, I dont know it's hard to explain without sounding ridiculous, just a matter of taste.
LOL @ pea walking away from the corner with the other fighter still throwing, how the hell he pulled that stuff is beyond me
This is one of the best statements that I have read on this forum. Mega K for you.
I call it like i see it.
When I watch Mayweather fight I am literally in awe, the guy is literally a genius, I am not so impressed by his demolition fights, as I am with his "boring" fights, the way he figures his opponents, the little subtle things he does like his small steps to offer an awkward target that idiots call running. Never seen anything like that in color, if you know what I mean (Pea is the exception but being elusive and frustrating is "easier" from a southpaw stance). Or when he turned the fight around against Judah.
And I have rarely seen a fighter behaving as Ricky does: he has humour, he is always respectful, humble, calm (ppl talk as if he insulted Floyd, come on Floyd should be arrested than...), loves his fan: when he hugged Zoo in front of that huge Manchestesr crowd and told his fans something like " I hope I can be half the champ Kostya Zoo has been" I was bought in for good.
Paulie, Cotto and Oscar oh my! tune in to 2008
I never said De La Hoya-Hatton couldn't happen
just that if it did. I wouldn't like Hatton's chances as far as winning.
here's how I see hypothetically the outcomes ...bearing a Hatton win or loss.
he wins .. he'll fight the Mosley-Cotto winner. OR rematch with Mayweather (if Dec. 8th Floyd loses .. I could see Mayweather saying he didn't train enough ... obviously the lack of training would have to do with Dancing With the stars)
granted im thinking Mayweather pulls it out vs Hatton. but doubt me not, just from his talk he seems like ricky would be a push over
I know its just talk, but I just hope Floyd comes into the best shape, with the right mindset, and fights to the best of his potential.
regarding if Ricky loses. if the fight is ultra close. like a 115-113 split decision loss. I would think Hatton would decide staying at 147 is best .. and he would then go for Cotto or even De La Hoya (who ever is the bigger fight at the time)
if he loses more distinctively, and more unanamously .. like 8-4 or 9-3 (giving Floyd trouble at the beginning, but his stamina coming up short, and Floyd wins rounds 8-12 to pull away comfortably)
then depending on how pissed Ricky would be .. I could see Malignaggi or even yes Junior Witter.
cuz if you lose the biggest fight of the your career .. why not take out the biggest domestic rival?
hey alotta Hatton fans say Witter would be easy work .. so why not .. you kill 3 birds with one stone (not just 2) .. 1. you beat your domestic rival, and shut him up. (Witter can't talk shit anymore if Hatton destroys him right?) 2. you pick up the WBC belt (self explanatory .. its a prestigious title) and 3. getting the WBC title gets you that much closer to unifying (WBC champ .. he could then go for the IBF belt .. Paulie's)
Anyway Oscar is a nightmare of a matchup for Hatton, a much tougher fight even than Mayweather. In fact it's nearly impossible.
$10 million. I just don't know man.
And don't you think he could be overconfident after beating Mayweather?
Anyone remember Vernon Forrest overlooking Ricardo Mayorga?
You don't think Hatton would risk a loss for $10 million? Hmmm, money talks. He also probably wouldn't have a care in the world of losing if he just beat P4P #1 Mayweather.

win lose or draw vs Mayweather.. I would completly have to rule out De La Hoya vs Hatton happening.
Hoya had trouble with Mayweather because he had to "find him" ... Oscar would have NO such problems in regards to fighting Hatton.
Hatton vs Mayweather he at least has a chance of winning, because Floyd might not have the physical size, plus Ricky isn't exactly a slug on his feet.
Hatton vs Oscar de La Hoya. I won't make a prediction ... but Ricky's chances are at least 70-30 of winning (probably lower)
the Mayweather-Hatton fight is 55-45 ... with the Dancing With The Stars making Hatton's chances a lil better.
Why do you think that a De La Hoya - Hatton match-up can not be made???
