in Southern Russia or Kazakstan or the caucuses?
If I would venture a guess that alot of it has to do with boxing promoters, and network producers because I have to believe that Russian boxers are more proportiante to their to population.
You hardly ever see muslim hockey players from Russia. I dont know that I ever have.
Good post. and naming all the top fighters from Russia and Ukraine. I just wish we got those guys on North American TV more. compared to timor ibragamov., and that guy on ESPN, ala something ev.
The answer to that is very simple. Ibragimov, Maskaev, and Liakhovich live and train in the US. The rest of them are in Germany. Time difference and their obscure status make it financially difficult to show on the major US networks. The best example is Joe Calzaghe, who was completely unknown by the US public until his schooling of Lacy. Now everybody knows about Calzaghe, and rightfully so.
The original question was, Why are so many Russian boxers from Muslim areas.
The answer is, there are a few Muslim boxers from Muslim countries around Russia and a bunch of Russian boxers from Russia, which accounts for your theory of disparity of boxers and general population numbers.
There is no disparity, if you look at the numbers.
By the way, Maskaev is from Kazakstan but he's not Muslim. Greenberg is Jewish and he's not Muslim.

Maskaev is from Kazakstan
Greenburg is Jewish
Most of the rest of those guys as I said dont fight in the United States or appear on North American TV.

Russia, Ukraine, and other non-Muslim countries produced:
Wladimir Klitschko, Vitali Klitschko, Oleg Maskaev, Nikolai Valuev, Sergei Liakhovich, Alexander Dimitrenko, Wladimir Virchis, Alexander Povetkin, Taras Bidenko, Oleg Platov, Denis Boytsov, Roman Greenberg.
Two world champions, three former world champions, and many top 20 contenders. Where did you see the Muslim boxers dominance again?
Maskaev is from Kazakstan
Greenburg is Jewish
Most of the rest of those guys as I said dont fight in the United States or appear on North American TV.
So if you want to get technical, why are there so many boxers coming out of these stan countries than from Russia, places like Moscow?
Sultan
Timor
Chagaev

You're not coherent. Once again, who are these Muslim boxers from Russia?

** I never heard of "They're everywhere." What is his record and division. Never heard of "the guy that was on ESPN boxing the other night from Russia was muslim" either.
This is not coherent.
As for muslim russian boxers....I dont know of many...I can name a lot more Christian russian boxers then muslim.....
See, I can't, hence the question.
Not those that fight in the North America TV anyway.
list of prominent boxers that are muslim from Russia
They're everywhere. Even the guy that was on ESPN boxing the other night from Russia was muslim.

First most of former Soviet republics are not connected with Russia FYI in a russian public poll for "Who are our enemies" the list was as so:
1. USA
2. Georgia
3. Ukraine
The fact that many boxers where born outside of Russian SSR and Ukrainian SSR goes along with the fact that the government gave you a job wherever it was needed.
Military families especialy never usualy resided in their homeland. Officers where always moved about.
I come from western ukraine, during soviet times, 70% of soldiers in my area where from far easter(asian) USSR. Most officers where ethnic Russians. Ukrainian officers or many of them would server in Uzbekistan.
You know why? "Because you wont shoot your own people".
So yes, many ethnic Russians, Ukrainians, Georgians etc were borne in republics that had no connection to their heritage.

this is like asking why american white boxers mostly suck while black ppl dominate even if there are more white ppl in usa
The best boxers from Russia ARE NOT muslim, they just dont fight in the United States, and are not annointed champions by any sanctioning bodies.
former Russian provinces are still heavily connected to Russia and part of the Russian CIS.
.
Example A
Ibragamov is fighting Holyfield where? In Moscow. Not something stan.
** You'd be wrong of course, not only mixing up former Soviet provinces with Russia, but Eastern Euros with Muslims.
List the prominent Russian Muslim boxers for us. This should be fun since traditional Muslims from anywhere seldom exceed in boxing.

They're everywhere. Even the guy that was on ESPN boxing the other night from Russia was muslim. It seems they outnumber regular Russian people in boxing as far as the North American TV audience goes, it's anomalous. It's not Proportionate to their parcipation in other sports that Russia is prominent in or to Russia's population.
It's just anomalous that it seems only in boxing that the muslims from Russia are the most prominent
