Sorry guys, Ive seen 2 big threads on here about it but I dont feel like reading all those responses.
Anyways, at 1st I thought it was very stupid but as I got to think about it, I thought it was a brilliant decision. Floyd is highly underrated on these boards as far as being a household name. By the way people talk about him on here you would think that he only does a 1,000 PPV sales for his fight but he's actually probally better or just as good as anyone in the sport not named Oscar. Now you add to that one of the biggest shows in Television? That would be huge for him with the main stream.
It also really helps his image. So many people in boxing hate Floyd and bitch about his image so this could only be positive. Also, alot of people think that 24/7 showed only the bad side of Floyd and now this show could show the opposite side of the guy.
Again, this to me is another reason why Floyd is a straight beast in boxing and will sadly be the most undervalued fighter in the sports history. If any of you watched the dancing show before then you will know that everyone who comes on there talks about how crazy the hours are. How they sometimes put in 12 hour days. Now you add to that Floyd is doing this while training for a legetimate world class undefeated fighter. Even a ton of the people who say Floyd will win also say that Hatton will give Floyd hell in the process. How is Floyd even going to have time to put in those grueling hours and train for the fight? There is no other guy in boxing that is capable of doing that and probally no one in sports. His body will be completely sore and he will almost have to never sleep.
So what if Floyd wins? This is nothing like RJ playing basketball in the day time and fighting a bum at night. Hatton is a undefeated P4P champ and is the real deal. If Floyd beats him while doing this dancing show at the same time then what does that say about his greatness? Stop underrating this kid. He should almost be put on a pedestal. Jerry Rice was known is the best Football player when he played and everyone talked about how no one worked harder. That is Floyd but we act like we dont even care about that. The guy doesnt drink, smoke, or do drugs but we act like he is a bum. If he beats Hatton while doing this then you have to give him his due, I dont care how much you hate him. On top of that, what if he actually wins the show also? My only question is can Floyd really dance? Ive never seen him do anything except for the electric slide and the 2 step so I dont think he's a great dancer but I guess we'll find out.
The other great thing I love about the show is that people on this board and in the media will again get to see Floyd live, as a regular person and you will see how completely small this cat really is. You put him besid Margairto, Williams, & Cintron and it is no contest but yet people think there tough for wanting to fight Floyd and he's a punk if he doesnt fight them. Its a joke. They'll look way way way bigger then him, which just makes what he's doing even that more impressive
bout 95% of people i interact with know who mayweather is very well. he is one of the biggest names in sports nowadays. truth.
Exactly, which is why I don't understand it when people say dumb shit like not enough people know him. I can't name 5 people who don't know him and I know a lot of people. I have no idea about his status in the UK, but in Northern California I can say most certainly that he's known in the urban sector and is like the 2nd most widely known person in boxing today, behind De la Hoya. I don't count Roy Jones or Trinidad. :)
Then you're interacting with boxing fans because most people don't know who the hell he is. Him joining dancing with the stars will help his career because more ppl who don't pay attention to boxing will know who he is. Boxing is not like baseball, football and those sports. Most people do not know the most popular boxers in this sport. Boxings not as popular as some ppl on this website want to believe it is. Yes, you have those ppl who love rocky movies and stuff but most of them don't even really pay attention to the sport boxing.
Dumbest comment ever, and sorry but most ppl do not know who he is. I bet you that more then half the population of blacks in America do not even know or could give a fuck about who floyd mayweather is. And seeing how the majority of the country is hispanic and white, most of them don't even know who he is. Boxing is not popular in America at all. This boxing forum is the minority of people across America. We all follow boxing and are big fans, I don't know many ppl in real life that are as big of fans as most of us.
aright then, but that doesnt change the fact that most people i interact with know who floyd mayweather is. should i not interact with them anymore then?? dont know where u live or people ur around, but around here, people know who floyd mayweather is, sorry if that dissapoints u...
Floyd is not known by many outside of the boxing world... after the hype surrounding may 5th, many ********s have already forgotten and refer to him simply as "the black guy who fought de la hoya"

anyone who doesnt think Floyd is a household sports name is a dumbass, plain and simple.

^Agreed.. I don't know too many people who don't know who he is, but maybe that's because I actually leave the house. :)
All this talk about Mark Cuban and not even an inkling of one of boxing's brightest stars was really making boxing's fall from the mainstream evident. I believe the show was Around the Horn when he was finally mentioned by a reporter close to the end of the show..........took long enough.
Tyson was the last mainstream A-list celebrity in boxing. Now to be considered A List you have to be a household name, not just in the US but worldwide. A-listers are people like Tom Cruise, Arnold Schwarzeneggar, Sylvester Stallone etc... De La Hoya really wasn't A List. Neither was Evander Holyfield, but Evander was certainly B list and he went on Dancing with the Stars. Evander is currently working on finding a letter after Z to work out which list celeb he is now, after his jaunt on Celebrity Paranormal...
You're right. And ANY boxer today - even Oscar - is a B-rated celebrity.
Oscar is HUGE...for a boxer. But he's still no Tiger Woods. Floyd id a B/C/whatever-level celebrity trying to make the jump to the next level.
see thats just plain not true.
When Oscar was in his prime he was one of the most popular athletes alive. But when you fight once every 2 years, and lose, you tend to slip a lot in popularity
Hell, Michael Jordans half as popular as he was when he was playin
Dancing with the stars is filled with B/C rated celebrities not A rated celebrities. Rumor has it that dancing with stars turned down Al Pacino because he is an A-rated Celebrity and they feel that A-rated Celebrities will get votes just for being the more popular celebs.
That dont mean anything. Only certain people are considered A rated in that kind of business. Its not like there saying that Floyd isnt A rated. There saying that no boxer would be A rated because its not a A rated sport anymore. Its not like the show has nobodies on it like the Surealife or something. There still popular people even if there not A rated. Also, it doesnt matter how you go in, it only matters how you come out. The show gets a ton of viewers. American Idol has just regular people that no one has ever heard of but they turn them into stars with there viewership. Dancing with the Stars is the same except there already celebs
