How good is this guy?
I have seen his two most recent wins against Adamek and Ruiz, and he looked great at times, but he also looked like shit at times too. He seems like a really unpolished fighter who gets by because his athleticism is just amazing.
I really wish his fight with Tarver would have come off instead of being cancelled due to a money dispute. It would have been a nice test, because most veterans know how to take away an experienced fighter's athleticism.
Who should Dawson fight next to bump his status up? I think a bout with Zsolt Erdei would probably be a good fight for him. Then he could take on the winner of Woods-Gonzalez. That would put him in line to take on Hopkins (if he is still there), or possibly Tarver or Glen Johnson (because you know his appeal is going to be a lot bigger if he beats Erdei and the Woods-Gonzalez winner)
Regardless of all the, "Who should Chad Dawson fight next?" talk above, what does everyone think of him?
Didn't he beat the crap out of Adamek by utilizing his skill?
He was way too fast for Adamek and stayed out of range; could he box like that against someone with better handspeed? I don't know, but we're gonna find out before long
Yes, talent and dynamics are not the same thing.
Haven't you heard?
Thanks genius, what else can you educate me on?
Talent makes me think of the way Floyd Mayweather wins recently at his higher weights.
Dynamic makes me think of throwing and landing quite a few effective combinations, which he did against both Adamek and Ruiz.
I believe Dawson has the potential to be GREAT, he's already good. I saw him fight once or twice before the Eric Harding fight & i said to myself hey this guy's got something, but there was something missing. He got kd and really didn't look that great in the Harding fight . I knew once Mayweather Sr steeped in as head trainer he would be better. Even though, I fully expected Adamek with his heart, expericence, & chin to win in the fight that he saw his WBC strap (& undefeated record) disapear. Dawson looked beautiful in his southpaw stance using lateral movement with a constant jab. :pat: but by constantly dropping his left hand Adamek eventually timed him w/ a straight right and hard the the canvas. We know the rest.... I think it's all up to Dawson as to what kind of fighter he wants to become. He has the talent now he has to put in the work :boxing:

MAYWEATHER SR OUT AS DAWSON'S TRAINER EDDIE MUSTAFA MUHAMMAD IN
By James Ahern
Undefeated WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson has informed ********** that Floyd Mayweather Sr will no longer be training him. World class trainer Eddie Mustafa Muhammad has assumed the responsibility and is currently working with the light heavyweight champion in Las Vegas. More to follow, so stay tuned to our front page at all times!!
You haven't seen anything dynamic yet?
Ummm, you are talking about Chad Dawson in the light heavyweight division right?

I trained chad for several figths as a pro (before the conniving Gary Shaw stole him away from his then promoter). Chad has CRAZY talent
You did some damn good work.
I wouldn't go as far as calling Dawson shit, but I'm not completely sold.
He's looked pretty pedestrian to me at times and I've seen little trace of anything truly dynamic yet.

I pick Calzaghe to beat him, if Calzaghe goes to Lhw. I'll bet anyone on the forums if that fight happens. And I bet you Calzaghe makes Chad look like an amateur because the topic creator is right that Dawson is good at times but then at time he looks like crap.
I will put 10k on it if that fight happens, whenever it does pm me and I will but the points up. I believe Chad, with floyd sr. training him, has the potential to be the future pound for pound number 1.
I don't think Hopkins would fight someone as young, fresh, and talented like chad Dawson. Hopkins is looking for people around his age group to fight. and calzaghe would definatley lose that fight. actually i think Dawson would make Calzaghe look like an amateur. If calzaghe goes to LHW, he will lose all the size advantages he had at SMW. I would bet on Dawson to whoop anybodys ass from LHW and down. :boxing:
I was on the Dawson bandwagon bigtime, but those two KD made me take a hard look at dawson, and I dont feel the same about him anymore.
It wasnt just the KD's, its that I think he got by more on athleticism than anything else, I dont see the skills there that I thought I saw after his win against Ian Gardner.
Didn't he beat the crap out of Adamek by utilizing his skill?
My bad, I forgot he had a more recent fight.
But the real issue is, why does a thread about a real rising star get seven replies? Motherfuckers want to talk more about Floyd and Hatton I guess

He didnt get dropped in his last fight lol,it was in the previous fights before that, and both where flash knockdowns, the Adamek knockdown was Chad being too cocky after putting a beating on him

He's going to be very hard to beat, and I'm not sure even Calzaghe could at this point.
he should be getting more support that a lot of other guys, imo, but maybe b/c he's a Showtime fighter his rep is not as strong.
He has gone down in his last two fights, which might be something to worry about
