judging by most posts on this forum they simply have to have fast hands and quick reflexes - that is what passes as "skillz" to some of these guys.
Zab Judah or Kostya Tszyu - who was more skilled?
To me it is hands down Tszyu, but i bet most on here would say Judah.
I think that neck strengthing exercises definately improve your chin. Often times its the head snapping back that causes your "brain to hit your skull" that causes the KO. Having strong neck muscles can stop your head snapping as severly, therefore preventing the KO. Thats a physical aspect.
If someone gets punched in the nose and goes down and thinks, "that hurt. fuck this. i'm staying down." thats a mental thing which is much harder to change.
To be a good boxer you need to master the jab, and have a couple of good power punches in your arsenal. Straight right and the left hook. Being able to effectively manouever your opponent to where you want him, time him etc. Everything seems so much easier when you master the basics. Adding upper cuts and right hay makers etc early on when training a fighter is almost unnessecary. Time and a place for them, but get the basics right first.
I believe a good boxer has to master the jab and footwork, those are the basics. Footwork includes moving and throwing, evasiveness and cutting off the ring as well as balance. Balance is very important for a boxer.
The other thing that is needed is physical conditioning.
If they lose ppl shit on them like assholes
HAHAHA that's really funny coming from you!
Should I dig up some posts of yours from before and after the miranda vs pavlik fight?

You can do neck excercises to increase your chin. The more you work on your neck, the more resistance you build to being hit. Also, standing on the balls of your feet allow you to take a punch easier. However, this does not make you invincible and if you get hit hard enough, it doesn't matter how strong your neck is, you're gonna drop.
I'd disagree. I think having your sparring partners chin check you in training can help build a better chin but you have to have something to work with to start off. If you are born with a glass chin I don't think any amount of training can help you devolp a granite one.
Surgery can change that class to metal.
A great boxer doesn't need a great chin in the first place because his boxing skills should be able to keep him from being hit, enough to win .
Now if we are talking about a great 'boxer' as in being a great fighter in the sport of boxing and not talking about the 'style' of a boxer then that is different .
There are 3 things you either have or don't have, 1- Speed 2- Power 3- Chin. Even though you can better speed and power in the gym to a certian extent, at the world class level it's just something you are born with.
Chin is the only thing you cannot improve. Getting hit in the gym doesn't improve your chin as a matter of fact it can make it worse if you already have a suspect chin to begin with. Some guys have a great chin some just don't, it's something God hands out not soemthing you can improve on.
If that was the case, you would hear of fighters trying to improve their chin but you never hear of that.
The things you need to improve as a fighter, are the things you are naturally good at. If you are a hard hitter and have agood chin, then become a great in-fighter or brawler. If you have great speed but don't hit as hard, practice on your boxing skills. I think the biggest mistakes fighters make is trying to be something they just aren't, find your strengths and develope them to become a master at what you TRULY are.
you cant develop a good chin
