He really is. But Max Kellerman described it perfectly, he does have Defensive LAPSES where he's not thinking denense, he's only thinking offense and he gets nailed a bunch.
But im just watchin some tape and to me at lease, it seems he only has these lapses when he's got his man in some trouble.
Against Miranda, he had just blasted Miranda against the ropes and was opening up on him. But Miranda has so much heart that he also started opening up and landed some blistering right counters. And another time Pavlik had just got Miranda to take a step back but Miranda jumped forward with an uppercut and caught pavlik.
Pavlik really had miranda in a world of trouble from the very first round.
And against Zertuche, Pavlik seemed to have some trouble adjusting the the very wide looping, brawler type style that Zertuche has.
I've been waver a bit on how and who wins this fight, but im becoming more confident in Pavlik by late round stoppage.
Taylors speed and movement should keep him in the fight for about 6,7 rounds, but Pavlik will pull ahead and start dominating like he has done so many times before.
But maybe Pavliks defensive lapses are more then just lapses. I've just seen him use many good defensive techniques effectively AND i've seen him look pretty good defensive when he wants to be.
In all seriousness sure Taylor has more experience. But his performances have been so subpar I really don't see him being far and away the better fighter. Now as far a crisp punches. I guess anyone can look like an accurate puncher compared to Miranda. But let's not forget how wildy Jermain threw punches in the Ouma fight. Which essentially made him gas out. And against Wright he landed some straight through the middle but a lot were looping hooks to that caught Wink on the ears. And as far as Hopkins I don't recall any significantly accurate punches that Jermain landed. He has better than average handspeed. But let's not get in over our heads.

i have those fights too. and agree when you say pavlik has a "good defense" but think i lean towards a weaker type of "good".
i like pavlik and hope he wins against taylor. but am worried that his style of previous fights will fit right into jermaines hands. not to say pavlik finds a way to win. and with slow witted taylor i see many ways! but its worrysome when some top boxing pundints say pavlick will go down. those guys all point to the fact "who has pavlik fought". he's never faught on the same level as taylor.
if sportsbooks make pavlik a large underdog i may make a small real money wager on him.
I think Pavlik has a very good defense, but thats only when he's thinking defense. And the ability to transition from offense to defense seemlessly is the difference between a great fighter and a good fighter.
And Sportsbooks are making this an even fight, with most having Pavlik the very slight favorite.
That isn't relevant.
The fact that Taylor throws crisp, accurate combinations changes the complexity of a fight discussion when Miranda is used as a benchmark.
He threw, and he landed yes. But he wasn't throwing quick to the target, accurate punches. He was swinging for the fences.
getting hit with three punches before he partially landed one,i may add...
So then you are saying that Miranda did not land any bombs on Kellys chin... Interesting.

He landed some on the cheek. But he was mostly busy eating punches. Taylor doesn't have Miranda's power, but he moves better and has more accurate and faster punches. That's all I meant. He's not going to be pushed bacdk as simply as Miranda was.
If Miranda didn't have enough to make Pavlik pick his spots, what on Earth would lead you to believe Taylor has enough to make Pavlik pick his spots?
I agree. No way in hell is pavlick losing by ko. He fought one of the hardest hitters in his division and he didnt realy even rock pavlick. What makes u think taylor can.

the fact that, unlike miranda, taylor throws accurate sharp, fast punches????...
pavliks power will be way too much for taylor, just like it has been for everyone else. The guy is a beast. he could move up and win every other belt i think. then keep moving up. watch the youtube video of the documentary. you will see his dad. same height but the dude is like 235 of all muscle. his genes have light heavyweight written all over them. look for him to be a force in many weight classes for some time. mark my words
Yeah and Taylor isn't exactly small either.

This will be a very easy fight for tayl:boxing: r. pavlik never fought a fighter on taylor's level. you will see jermaine's experince kick in as he breakdown pavlik round by round.speaking of pavilks chin, he was hurt in both of his last two fights, by looping shots that were not crisp and sharp, which is how taylor's punches are thrown.the reason winky gave taylor so much trouble is first of all he's a world champion, second he's a southpaw. that spells trouble for anyone ,southpaws are really hard to deal with. so you see taylor has seen almost everything in the ring by beating the best . Pavilk is a good kid and I like his heart and skill + power, but he's in way over his head.
Yes I agree.
But that blue lettering is a bit too unnecessary.

If Pavlik comes to fight I dont see Jermain being able to deal with the workload that Pavlik hopefully will place on him.Remeber Jermains counter punching style works well against other fighters with the same style (ie Winky,Bernard)I just dont see him being able to keep pace with upwards of 100 punches that Pavlik puts full commitment into.
Y
ONE REALLY GOOD thing i could see a TAYLOR fan hanging onto, is actually the KASSIM OUMA fight. hear me out.
Ouma was and is known as a guy who throws well over 100 punches every round. But agianst Taylor, Ouma hardly got off 30 punches a round.
Then you have Pavlik, who is also known for throwing maybe 80+ punches a round, all hard. But maybe, like Ouma, he wont be able to get them off as well.
IMO, Pavlik is PLENTY bigger and stronger, and has a longer jab then Ouma, and getting off 70, 80, or 90 shots a round isn't going to be as difficult as it was for Ouma
I hear you. I thought Taylor did fine against Ouma. Everyone wanted a knockout, but Ouma has some chin and took his beating.
And Pavlik will not throw nearly as many punches b/c Taylor is fast and has enough to make Pavlik pick his spots a little more than we saw in the two previous Pavlik fights.
He moved his head with those huge Miranda rights that put evweryone else to sleep and he took them nicely on the cheek.
I think Taylor could win, but Pavlik has an excellent chin that Taylor won't easily crack. Taylor has only slightly better than average power for a middleweight.
Yea exactly. Pavlik has fought like that a bunch of times because he's in there with guys that break down after many rounds of pressure. And he and his team are smart enough to realize that, and Pavlik has the courage to execute a risky gameplan like that.
And Taylor has good experience, but he still has never been in with a guy anything like Pavlik. The only thing close to Pavlik was Wright, and i dont need to say ANYTHING about that.

EVERY belt? He's young, and likely won't be at 160 for too long. And the best young LHW is not a big man, so all these guys coming from 160 and 168 will be able to compete there.

For someone as flawed as Taylor, he sured stuck in there with two of the best technically sound boxers in Hopkins and Winky...
just because you're flawed, that doesn't mean it will always spell doom...
Pavlik is a completely different animal than Winky, Hopkins, Ouma and Spinks...however I don't see it being easy for either man...
they are both big...undefeated...strong...have heart...and both have been tested
