Mayorga vs. Cotto: Who wins and why?

A lot of people saying Cotto KO's him with body shots. Well, Mayorga may have a weak body, but we all know he throws very powerful punches, and Cotto's defense is sub-par. When Mayorga knocked out Lewis and Forrest, he did it early, and did it with mixing shots to the head and body. If he landed his power punches to the chin of Cotto early, this fight would be over. Mayorga once said that De la Hoya's punches hurt him more than Trinidad's, and I do not see Cotto even hitting as hard as Trinidad, let alone DLH, so it is a very big possibility that Mayorga could go the distance.

Probably a repeat of the Trinidad fight. Cotto is tough and can dish it out... But Mayorga giving Cotto respect? I doubt it. Remember, he didn't give Trinidad respect at 160 in his first fight there moving up from 147. Mayorga's body is vulnerable though. That would probably be the key to the fight for Cotto.

Torres didn't have Cotto's respect, Mayorga would... True. And it all really depends on what weight its at. At 147 Mayorga was a beast. I think mayorga would beat vargas anyday at 47 or 54 . But this fight at 162 is the worst possible situation for mayorga.

cotto by 9th round knockout. cotto is a real fighter and a fighter people can count on to be a dominate champ. people cant count on mayorga to be a dominate champ because he is not a real good fighter. any fighter with real skill can beat him. he is very wild and has no true boxing skill. he got so far as a fighter because of his power and strength and thats not great. the only reason why he knocked Forrest out is because he was the bigger man and he took all of Forrest shots. and Forrest was intimidated as well with all the trash talking Mayorga did. I see cotto wearing him down with body shots and stopping him around the ninth round.

I see it unfolding with Cottos eyes fixed on Mayorga's body, and Mayorga's eyes fixed on Cotto's chin. It's a wild fight, one I'd love to see happen. Cotto has the far better record and probably the edge in power too, but he has a suspect chin and gets hit more often than he should. Mayorga throws wild punches from insane angles with tons of power on them, if he could slip it past Cotto's guard I think he could put Cotto down. That said I think Cotto would get up, continue the assault to the body and break Mayorga's will in 7 rounds.
