One of my favorite moments was when Merchant was describing a certain fighting stratetgy wrapping up a show. He meant to say "Even John Ruiz has had success...." but it comes out "Even John Ruiz has had sex....success" then he just went on like it hadn't happened....lol
I missed that, lmao. I want a clip of it!

Lewis is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy worse. Why can't they bring back Sugar Ray or Foreman to replace him? They were so much better at commentating.
This is True. Lewis doesn't really have an opinion of his own, he just agrees with everyone else. I liked Roy Jones as "THE FIGHTER" on the HBO team, he told it like it was and didn't agree with anyone just for the sake of it. I still would like to hear Roger Mayweather & Floyd Snr calling on HBO together.
fuck max kellerman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i had 2 say it
bug eyed freak

I dont think people will realize how great he is until he's gone. Even with all of the bias and instances of getting off topic, its still not the same watching a big fight without Lamps and Merchant announcing at ringside.
Agree 100%. Morales vs. Diaz was terrible with out the HBO gang.

Exactly. They'll never find another Larry Merchant. He's a one of a kind. And you have to appreciate a man who goes way back with the sport and is fond of it's roots. You can't argue with the man if he enjoys a good slugfest or an all out brawl. He's oldschool. I've been appreciating him a lot more lately and while I still laugh at almost everything he says, if you do go and think about the stuff he says, it actually does have some meaning behind it.

My personal favorite was right before the Taylor Spinks fight, when he gave us all a great lesson in hip hop:
"Crunk is a word used in the south that means HOT......... and boy this fight is going to be crunk!"
Me and my comrades couldn't stop laughing
Comrades? You're from Seattle and you're Russian? We have two things in common! Where in Seattle are you from?
Ive watched Cossel, Packecko, and a few other greats, but none compare to Merchant. The man is just crazy good at what he does, and when he gets drunk he is even better, it's friggin amazing!
He gets hated on a lot, especially around here. I grew up listening to the guy all the time, I have somewhat of an affinity for him. He's great at calling it like he sees it and I love it when he sets Lampley or Steward straight, then there's this awkward silence...followed by Lampley asking Steward some training-related question to change the subject.
I love you Larry.
This is a prime example of what makes Larry Merchant do endearing and great. Hilarious stuff, I'm sure........
even....
he would.....
........like it.

Long live Larry, I will be deeply saddened when he leaves the sport. You can tell in the first clip that he really felt warmed by Hatton's gesture of kindness, it's one of my favorite boxing related clips to date.
