he said he would with dlh, who is naturally bigger and stornger than hatton. so i would imagine that a fatton is a walk over and therefore mayweather should stand toe to toe. if he does fight in his effective slick style, then the match will be boring and mayweather will most likely win. i hope it is toe to toe to make it more even. i dont give a fuck if there is hugging or not, sometimes its unbearable watching a slick fighter vs a slugger.
I'm absolutely cool with what you are saying. But please don't be one of those people who are DEMANDING that PBF fight Cotto on the basis of the Judah fight.
If PBF beat a "decent" Judah, then Cotto beat a version of Judah that was 15 months of inactivity worse. Soooo, let's not get too excited about Cotto until after November 10th. Remember, Migs has beaten nobody.
I agree that you have to BEAT the best to BE the best....
...But Cotto, Shane, Cintron, Margarito, Hatton, etc don't exactly have sterling records vs top competition, either.
My friend I agree with mostly all your points. But I just think that Cotto is better than Hatton and if he beats Mosley then Mayweather should fight him because that is the best challenge available. Again, cotto has beaten some good fighters, but beating mosley puts him up there because there are not that many fighters at 140, 147 and 154, that are better that mosley. Now, there is nothing to take away from Mayweather if he chooses not to fight after hatton or the mosley/cotto winner.
The thing is, that you hate him, and I respect his hustle. I don't love him.
I don't "hate" any boxers (maybe Evander Holyfield, but that's personal).
PBF is an asshole personally (or appears that way - never met him). PBF is damn near brilliant personally.
Casamayor? I love that fucker.
Dont get me wrong, i respect his hustle as well, but what does it do for me, the fan? Absolutely nothing. I respect a fighter who has respect for the fans. Floyd hasnt shown that he respects the fans. Its obvious that its "all about him" Oh well, what can i do.
He moved up to 147 to face Judah...right? At the time, Judah was a legitimate, credible and linear champ. Right? Judah had a mandatory vs a lightly regarded Argentinian ( "Balthazar?")
Judah lost to Baldomir. That was freaky. So PBF beats both Judah, and the guy that beat Judah. How is that belt-shopping?
Please remember that Floyd left 140 less than two years ago. And when he was at 140, Hatton turned down the opportunity to fight him. Twice.
Hatton said that he was moving back to 140 because he isn't a welter. Then you hear that he would fight Floyd or Oscar at 147. Know why? THE MONEY. Know why Spinks went to 160 for Taylor? THE MONEY. Know why Margarito was trying to get out of the Williams fight and wanted Cotto instead? THE MONEY.
Is PBF often contradictory? ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY. He talks a ridiculous amount of shit. But we are fans of a sport where guys are trying to cause temporary brain damage to each other. Are you THAT sensitive about what somebody SAYS?
Listen. I hate the guy, and its obvious that you love him. So we can go back and forth ALL DAY when the topic is FMJ. Have a nice day.
I happened to have seen Mayweather's second or third pro fight and even back then, maybe even more so back then people were at least as if not more annoyed as they are now with Floyd staying in a shell when it's obvious he could be doing more to put it mildly.
It was probably his second fight, which he fought his first southpaw, and understandably, was a little more cautious because it was new territory. If you are talking about the one all over youtube, the only reason they were booing is because he was showboating so much, and no one knew who he was. But for some reason, Floyd actually wasn't as exciting at 130 as he was at 135 or 140, or even 147 (except for the Baldomir fight).
Then, you realize that he changed his style to accommodate fighting bigger men.
Would you say that changing your style to suit the type of opponent is a dumb thing or a smart thing?
Would you say fighting at 1-2 weight classes above where you should fight is a brave thing oir a cowardly thing?
Floyd's motive for moving up in weight was for money, and money alone. One day he's saying that a belt dont mean shit, then the next he's bragging about holding 5 titles in 5 different weight classes. He's constantly contradicting himself. Now do i think it was brave or cowardly to fight 1-2 weight classes above his natural weight? It was smart from a buisness point of view, but he opted to fight in a "cowardly" fashion. With the exception of a handfull of fans, NOBODY wants to see the "so-called" pfp champ pot-shotting his way to a victory. Fight fans want a champ who's gonna put it all on the line in order to win. As of lately, Floyd has been doing "just enough" to win. He calls himself the Best at 140, 147, and 154, yet he hasnt defended his title not ONCE since leaving 135. He has division hopped in order to face "less risk, high reward" opponents. Are those the charactaristics of a "real" champ?

well you can define a boxer by his whole career, but if you're discussing about the present then i would say yes he is pretty boring. im not saying that its wrong, but my opinion is that agaisnt dlh he fought boring.
I happened to have seen Mayweather's second or third pro fight and even back then, maybe even more so back then people were at least as if not more annoyed as they are now with Floyd staying in a shell when it's obvious he could be doing more to put it mildly.
PBF has done, and does, BOTH.
No disrespect intended, but you seem like you have only seen the Baldomir and ODLH fights.
Did you see manfredy? chavez? corrales? castillo? Judah? Bruseles? sharmba? Corley? ndou? GATTI? I would recommend that you go watch those fights. Please remember that Floyd was a B.A.D fighter. And Boxing After Dark was known for exciting matches. In fact, I NEVER heard anyone call PBF "boring" until Baldomir. SO IT'S EASY TO TELL THE GUYS WHO ARE NEW TO THE SPORT.
What Ray did was say "OK, I fought your fight last time, and you beat me. Now, I'm gonna bring you into MY world". That was SMART.
Boxing isn't a test of "who can punch harder and take more shots". Humans have legs for a reason. When I first took boxing lessons, they taught me footwork and movement before they focused on throwing punches. I'm guessing there's a reason for that.
It seems as if you want guys to bring a couple of chairs in the ring, to sit down, and start wailing on each other.
Please look at the attached link, and let me know if that style is unacceptable. And if the crowd sounds bored.

I never considered Floyd boring pre 147. But since beating Gatti, his mouth has been on OVERDRIVE. When your calling yourself the best fighter in the world pfp, people tend to hold u to a higher standard. To me, Boxing is a combat sport, where the objective is to take the other guy out. Im not much of a fan of fighters who have the potential to win in fascinating fashion, but opt to piter pat thier way to a points victory. Think about it, when was the last time Floyd actually threw a combination? He has turned into a "one and done" type of fighter. Im guessing and hoping that he's now coming out to make a statement with his next few fights. If he did a little less shit talking, and a bit more fighting, fans would embrace him alot more.
You Never Know...
Usually floyd trades with guys he thinks that can't hurt him (chop-chop & sharmba). I think after fighting at the heavier weights for some time that he is used to that body mass & feels he can take the shots. Not to mention that after his last 2 "negative" performances he feels he has something to prove & probably will take more risks! With the reach & speed advantage he prob. feels Ricky won't be able to counter him effectively going back or coming foward. For some reason though i think were going to see the best Ricky Hatton ever. I think Ricky is going to suprise some people by "switching up his attack" by boxing & brawling! Let's just hope for a good fight!!! :boxing:
As a matter of fact, yes i did boo SRL during the Duran rematch. In my eyes it seemed as if SRL knew he couldnt beat Duran, so he chose to clown around instead of fighting. As far as Pernell, he was a defensive wizard who made u miss while standing right in front of you, then made u pay. He didnt run around the ring pot-shotting all night.
Seems to me that Floyd can duck and slip with Pernell...
Anyways... everyone, stop complaining about Floyd not going toe-to-toe. It's not an impossibility that he won't, for one. But also, even if he doesn't... it's called using strategy. By not fighting Ricky's fight, he gives himself a better chance to win the fight.
Does anyone get pissed when they watch football because a team runs the ball if they enjoy Hail Mary passing plays? I doubt it, because the first and foremost goal of any competition is to win. That's all there is to it, anything else is secondary.
That being said, Dios Dominicos is dead on about Floyd being able to fight toe-to-toe... especially at 140. He did it in every fight he fought at 140... and considering he is fighting Hatton who is moving up from 140, it's a decent chance that that will happen again. He chased Judah and Sharmba Mitchell down and unloaded combinations on them all night (except for the first few rounds with Judah... it's called a feeling out process, everyone does it, get over it). That means 2 out his 3 fights at 147 were somewhat toe-to-toe. The only one at 147 that he didn't fight like that was against iron chinned Baldomir, which he claimed he hurt his hand in.
Seriously though... stop commenting on Floyd if you haven't seen more than 2fights in his career. I haven't seen more than 2 fights of Ricky Hatton's, and I rarely say anything about him, because I am not qualified. It'd be nice if everyone else did the same.
That is a fair very statement. Kinda surprising coming from you because you have a pretty biased posting history, IMO.
Question: were you booing SRL in the Duran rematch? Did you boo Pernell his entire career?
As a matter of fact, yes i did boo SRL during the Duran rematch. In my eyes it seemed as if SRL knew he couldnt beat Duran, so he chose to clown around instead of fighting. It would be nice to see that. Unfortunately floyd is gonna use the style that better suits him for the win. If trading with hatton is the key to victory he will use it. If not he'll use another approach. He's not the type of fighter that will put himself in danger just to please the crowd. I don't think he will go toe to toe throughout the whole fight, but I think he will be more offensive in this fight than with DLH.
I think and HOPE he will go toe-toe with Hatton in order to silence his critics who say he's turned into a track star. His reasons for not going toe to toe with Oscar and Baldo were because they were much bigger than Floyd. Hatton and Floyd are pretty much the same size. I think if he chooses to stick to his "hit and run" style against Hatton, a smaller man, he will hear boooo's from the MGM to NYC.
you really don't know shit about boxing, come dec 8th you will see your euro hero fall hard.
way to stick up for america, like our true american hero Floyd mayweather. He would make Joe Louis and George Washington proud :/
Normally I will go with the American fighter though, I just wish Floyd was worthy of the mantle.

i have forgotten more about boxing then you'll ever know.
I think Hatton will force him 2 go toe to toe
That would be a damn good strategy for him... but I don't know how anyone can make Mayweather not move away from the ropes or corner... he is so fucking fast, and can slip punches like no one's business.
