I think JONES is just washed up enough to make this a somewhat competitive fight.
Even if Jones wins every round convincingly, Trinidad has MADE A CAREER on walking through hell. He usually wound up the victor, but there was never any give in Felix Trinidad, and that virtually GARUNTEES an entertaining fight.
And this is GREAT for the sport of boxing. These are two guys that are always fun to watch, and usually give entertaining fights. Madison Square Garden will undoubtedly be Sold Out. And i wouldnt expect anything under 750,000 PPV buys... probably a ways more then that.
AND, its gonna get a lot of MAINSTREAM attention, which fans on here are always begging for. So what are you complaining about?! This is a fight thats gonna get that attention.
And hopefully they'll get it right this time, and put a good undercard with name fighters and evenly matched fights that will be good fights.
Like MORMECK fights in September... maybe he can fight on the undercard. He's a KING fighter.
And so it Tomas Adamek who is also free for the night, and is now in the Cruiserweight mix which can produce a VERY memorable fight with him.
It could be a very memorable night, with what i think is an entertaining (though probably onesided) main event.
My problem with the fight is it proves nothing. If Jones win, then so what. He beat a blow-up light heavyweight coming off a 2-year retirement. Trinidad may retire win, lose or draw againt Jones.
Other than Joppy, a small middleweight, Trinidad has NEVER been able to beat a legit 160-pounder and will now fight a guy who won the heavyweight title a few years ago.
People thought it was a serious mismatch back then, now it's worse because Trinidad has fought 3 times since 2002!!!!, one bout was a one-sided loss and the other two were wins over a blow up Mayorga and an old Cherifi.
Why do fights always have to prove something you know? This is a fight between two guys who are legends, but are no longer big players in the sport.
If they want the spotlight one more time, and they promise to give us a fight, i see no reason not to at least give them the oppurtunity. If they live up the hype, its a shot in the arm for boxing.
yeah i guess so, i was more talking about his inactivity but yes he did lose to some studs for sure!
True I have no idea what to expect from him to tell the truth.
I don't know why he keeps jumping in with top p4p fighters or in this case a bigger man without taking tune ups.
I mean look at Quartey he's done pretty well with his comeback and the last two fights were very close but the point is that he work his way up to those fights he didn't just jump into a fight with Winky after being out for years.
Foreman worked his way up...
Roy is working his way up..
Holyfield has worked his way up...
ect ect ect...
Then you have Tyson who would have long lay offs and then expect to run over guys like Lewis .
Hardly ever does anyone make a great comeback in this fashion.
Yes but he lost to the # 1 and # 2 or 3 or blah blah blah best P4P fighters out there .
It's not like he lost to nobody.

in the last 6 yes 6 years tito is 2 and 2 with one win over a tomato can...this fight is a JOKE!!!

How many fights has De La have in the last few years? How Old is he? Not dominated, didn't Bhop beat De La's Ass? Look at De La's resume, he fought the fighters Tito already beat up. I laughed at that Myorga come back, all De la had to do was watch what Tito did to him before. You guys are suckered into the mass media Image of De La and its kinda sad.
They are the same age ..
True DLH did fight a lot of guys after Tito had already...
I think he just means that DLH has not been dominated in the same way as Tito was with Hopkins and Winky, DLH did a lot better then Tito did with Hop....
I don't think that Tito has ever been washed up it's just that he has a one or two dimensional style when boxers like DLH and Hopkins have three or four things to fall back on .
Basically Tito would have ran into a Winky at some point either way even if he was in his prime during that fight Winky probably still would have won.
How can you compare one to the other? De La Hoya has never been dominated by anyone in his entire career and a lot of people thought he just beat Mayweather, the current top pound for pound fighter in the world. In the worst case scenario, De La Hoya lost 5-7 to Floyd. Trinidad has fought three time sinces 2002. De La Hoya has fought 7 times since 2002 and he barely fights once per year.

If you think that Tito's Washed Up, then you have to say the same for ODLH.

It kinda unfair to say that he could never beat a middle though being that he never fought anyone at the weight other then Hopkins and the others you named .
I'm sure at that time he would have beat just about everyone at middleweight other then Hop but he didn't need to.
You're wrong bro. Jones was DYING making 160 in the early 90s. In any era of boxing histoiry, particularly those where weigh-ins occur the day of a fight, Jones is a light heavy. A smallish one, but a light heavy none the less. Even if one finds his best weight to be the then still young (hell, it's still young) 168 class, that's still 14 pounds over what Tito was on (maybe) his best days.

well i don even think roy is or was a real 175 pounder himself

The Heavyweight title? :nonono:
Otherwise I agree

It is well known that Tito always walked around at 170 or so when not fighting .
He's what 5'10/5'11 so he should be able to carry a lot of the power up with him.
I don't mean that he has the best chance of winning but I don't think size will be as much of a issue as it seems.
Trinidad doesn't put on weight that well.
I expect him to come in looking soft.
But I hope you are correct. I want a tight battle.
Although Jones will be much stronger every way around it.
