Great or legend?
IMO Lennox is just smart for entering the HW devision when he did. He is great but there was something missing in his career to make him a legend. Anyone know what that is?
Because Tyson had everyone in their prime. Lewis had the leftovers.
Holyfield, fair enough. Tyson was spent by then, Briggs, Tua and Grant were also-rans. Vitali, fair play.
Much more impressive that ANYONE Tyson beat?
Here goes, here's who Tyson beat late on -
Trevor Berbick
James 'Bonecrusher' Smith
Pinklon Thomas
Tyrell Biggs
Larry Fucking Holmes
Tony Tubbs
Michael Spinks
Frank Bruno
Donovan Ruddock (twice)
Does Lewis' resume compare?
I don't think so...
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
i have to agree with you
but i will give lewis credit
even though i cant stand him he did his thing and fought who was available to him
but i obviously prefer a prime iron mike
I hate people who say Tyson beat nobodies. Go on the internet and look at Tysons fucking opponents and you'll see that he didnt just fight bums. Everyone just likes to put Tyson down because of his character and how the media portrays him.
I did'nt say he beat all bums.....he just did'nt reign supreme for long or in a strong era.
Prime Tyson > Prime Lewis,
They would have to call autoglass to fix lewis's jaw afterwards.
we are talking whole careers and if they fought during prime vs prime.Lennox career>>>>Tysons and had they both fough in their primes Tyson would have little more than a good punchers chance so it would be a toss up of sorts.
This Tyson hate is getting pretty silly. Yeah, Tyson fail apart at a time when he should have been cementing his legacy but you can't take away what he did accomplish in his heyday.
Pinklon Thomas was known as one of his more durable fighters of his day. He didn't just let Tyson hit him with straight punch after punch, he got stunned after fighting a great defensive fight and was quickly overwhelmed by a quick, hammering Tyson. Anyone who...you know actually watched the fight would know that.
It's hard to call Spinks a glass jaw when he was undefeated and had never been knocked out before the fight.
Larry Holmes was coming off a long lay off but was only two years removed from his peak years. He continued to stay a tough contender for many many years after the Mike fight as I outlined in the absurd Tua thread. Tyson didn't beat a peak Holmes but let's not pretend it was Marciano/Louis II.
James Smith had a solid 19-5 record when he fought Tyson and was coming off a complete destruction of Witherspoon that earned him the fight.
Ruddock wasn't winning either of the Tyson fights but he gave him a tough run in probably the best performances of his career.
Please don’t take my post seriously…that wasn’t the point of it. The point I was trying to show was that you can’t really ever win these arguments. My post was sarcastic…I tried to draw from the other arguments I’ve seen on these boards ( he was a bum, he had a glass jaw, he wasn't in his prime, he was drugged, etc.) I don’t really know these fighters, so I just thought I make stupid excuses that I see on this board all the time. I know most of those fighters were very tough and good fighters…I thought I would just poke fun at it.
Tyson isn`t even in the same league as Lewis. Lewis is a far better fighter and has beaten better opposition including the ear biter himself.
People seem obsessed with saying 'prime Tyson' ...when was this prime? In his prime who did he beat that was as good as Lewis? No one...
His prime ended when Douglas whipped him, what a coincidence.
Most of Tysons opponents lost before they entered the ring because of fear, Douglas wasn`t scared and look what happened.
Tyson is so overrated its not even funny...its probably because you grew up watching him but you all act like he was superman.
-Pinklon Thomas let Tyson land a 15 punch combination on him...what kind of fighter lets that happen to him?...a bum
-James 'Bonecrusher' Smith had 17 losses...yeah real tuff! and tyson beat him by a very boring decision, not a knockout
-An old, burnt out, out of his prime "Larry Fucking Holmes"
-Michael Spinks was a glass jaw fighter who couldn't stand up and fell three times in the first round after Tyson gave him a love tap on the chin

But who the fuck is everyone?
Lewis went on to beat Holyfield,Tyson himself,Briggs,Tua,Grant and Vitali before it was all said and done......much more impressive than ANYONE Tyson beat.Essentially the peaked at different eras,Tyson Late 80s and Lennox late 90s......was he moved along carefully and defintely learned his craft yes but so what look at the final result of his career.......Legend Undisputed Champ......Tyson is not remembered like that and won't be.Lennox>>>Tyson in the overall Picture.

-Pinklon Thomas let Tyson land a 15 punch combination on him...what kind of fighter lets that happen to him?...a bum
-Tyrell Biggs was legit
-An old, burnt out, out of his prime "Larry Fucking Holmes"
-Tony Tubbs was a fat, under trained bum who threw fights and took dives
-Michael Spinks was a glass jaw fighter who couldn't stand up and fell three times in the first round after Tyson gave him a love tap on the chin
-Frank Bruno was legit
-Donovan Ruddock losses came via controversial decisions...he rocked Tyson in their first fight. Tyson had to hit low blow after low blow in the second fight because he couldn't win fair.
So, only two impressive wins. The rest of the fights were jokes!
By the way, I'm trying to inject some humor into this thread with this post. Hope some of you had a laugh!

THE BIGGER THEY WERE THE HARDER THEY FELL WITH TYSON IN HIS PRIME.........HE TRIED TO KILL THEM:boxing: I DONT THINK ANY FIGHTER HAS EVER BEEN AS ACTION PACKED AND EXCITING AS TYSON WAS........LOVE HIM OR HATE HIM HE WAS THE BEST AND HE WAS STILL A TEEN KNOCKING OUT GROWN MEN
Tyson was a grown man as a teen...have you seen him at 16? he was huge! To me it was just one grown man knocking out another grown man...
Fair point, and that's my bad.
Can you criticise Tyson's resume, though? I don't think you can. He's a bit like Diego Corrales, had everyone, in their prime, twice.

No. I'm just saying criticizing Lewis's resume in an attempt to defend Tyson doesn't make much sense.

IMO Lennox is both great and a legend......top 10 alltime. He beat every man he ever faced and while he did never fight prime Tyson it is well known Prime Bowe wanted nothing to do with Lennox. Also I would bet behind closed doors Tysons handlers were saying not to fight Lennox bec ause mike would have nothing more than a 50-50 punchers chance.......why risk it.When Lennox was fully into his fights he was unstoppable.Speed, power and skill that was just amazing for his size.
I don't get your drift. Are you agreeing with me? I'm not being confrotational, I'm just confused.
No. I'm just saying criticizing Lewis's resume in an attempt to defend Tyson doesn't make much sense.
Bruno, Ruddock, Biggs and Tucker are the left overs I assume your eluding to. They were hardly career high points for Lewis, he cemented his place in history by beating better fighters than those four. You can argue the merits of Lewis and Tyson's achievements until your blue in the face, but their resumes don't compare, trying to argue that they do would make you look foolish.

I agree with alot of what you say,
When tyson was 19 and undisputed champ, where was lewis?
When tyson was a force where was lewis?
I'll tell you where,
He was struggling with Frank Bruno, a guy who carrer was ended by tyson.
Exactly.......
