"Gonzalez, who led on two judges' scorecards and all punch stats when he went down, wants a rematch, but at 122 pounds."
-on ESPN i dunno how someone could have penalosa up
gerry looks like an old fish vendor minus the straw hat
here's one sick mofo. what has it got to do with the fight last night? who cares how gerry looks? he is a great warrior. would you just quit disrespecting fighters and shut the fuck up if you have nothing good to say.
peace out.
gerry's punch isnt luck but ponce 's is :rolleyes:get the fuck out of here....
none of them were lucky....
chill out dude. I was only joking. can't you tell, unless you are pea-brained. you don't own bs, you moron.
that is his style and he got the power to KO his oppenet but imagine if you go like 5 classess above you orginal weightclass and you got a decent power in you weightclass than it hard to KO a person and if you tried it will make you go on the canvas. each one has his way of winning a fight. It maybe boring for you but sometimes you dont have to disrespect them you know what i mean
talk about manny pacquiao who started at 108 all the way to 130. the freaky thing is that manny has carried his power with him all the way up. but some blood-thirsty idiots still wants him to fight at 135 just to see him lose.
hey Vaquaz is young amexician nd in his prime and Penalosa is 35 year old pinoy who was about to retire...opps sorry :D
it funny that went a fighters school someone if they dont like him they say he is running and if they like him they would say 3 option : " he schooled him" " he boxed his ear off" " he taught him a boxing lesson."
:D
you nailed right on the head. i have the same observation - double standardizing bastards. :smashfrea
Gerry had problems with Jhonny's 3 1/2" reach advantage and movement. Gerry is a counter-puncher and waits for his oponent to make his move and then counter-punch. But whenever he came close he had some success going into Jhonny's body. I noticed during the fight though that Gerry was able to duck a few times on Johny's right hook and exposed his right ribs for Gerry's money punch - the left hook. I knew Gerry saw those and concentrated on attacking Jhonny's right side. He was very patient until he saw the same opening and capitalized on it.
I gave rounds 1 and 3 to Gerry. Round 3 was close but Gerry threw the more effective punches. At 35 years old to be able to win against an skillful boxer the way he did and being a 4 to 1 underdog, I couldn't ask for more. Gerry once again prove that he is still at the top of his competition and still a force to recon with at 118. He said after the win that he will fight one more time in front of his home crowd and then hangs his gloves for good.
Congrats Gerry - the two time world champ.
You guys gotta also realize. Gerry ain't no spring chicken anymore. He's 35! Older than Barrera! I'm not bring in whose been in more battles with this either. I'm just saying, Gerry is an old man, espeically for the lower weight classes where reflexes and speed play a big part. Jhonny is only 26. He should have been able to win this fight against the old man. He was incontrol, but something you can't take away from the old man, regardless of what he was lacking, was experience. He was waiting for that shot and worked the body enough so when that opportunity came, Jhonny would feel it. Worked great and I feel happy for Gerry who's been working so hard at getting a world title again. Can only feel happy for the guy and let him retire on a good note if he does now.
Its only lucky if he meant to do something other than what the purpose of that punch served. It served its purpose well for Gerry. Reminds me of Forman vs. Moorer. No lucky punches in boxing just unlucky targets.
there is...ponce's :)
How the hell you going to compare this fool to Barrera and Morales?!:nonono: Penalosa's resume is garbage comepare to MAB and EM, Didnt he fight most of his fight in the Phillipines?
careful with your words. gerry is no fool. you certainly act as one with this post. you don't even know gerry's resume yet you have already made your conclusion. that is a trademark of a fool.
gerry fought outside of the phils, mainly in asia. he has never been kd and most of his loses were close because they were fought in his opponent's backyard. japan, korea and thailand are infamous for hometown decision. the gerry you saw last night was just a shadow of himself 10 years ago. he is a slick boxer, a counter-puncher and knows every trick of the game. he has excellent defense and has decent power in both hands. i believe that if he had fought here in the states during his prime, he could have been the first manny pacquiao.
I hate when people say "lucky" punch, If the guy threw it Im sure he meant on it doing damage. Good win for Penalosa and Great night for the Pinoys winning the World Cup.
By the way Im Glad Ponce was able to let us Mexicans atleast walk out with our heads held up high.
i agree with you completely. gerry's win was not even on points or even controversial for that matter. it was a knockout for crying out loud. jhonny was counted out. plain and simple.
i find it amusing when some peoples' fighter lost, they still find ways to downplay or worst discredit the other guy.
you are one classy guy. if only every mexican is like you.
Gerry was lucky tonight, that fucker should get shot. Gonzalez was winning clearly, rematch him gonzalez and knock his ass out this time!
anyways..
Bautista KO'd in 1 ROUND !! HAhahaHAHAhaha!~!!
Hahahahaa! 5-1 hahahaha. Ponce saved your ass for more humilation. Go celebrate your one and only win.. HEHE
Yeah credit to Penalosa for a good punch and knockout.
But that was far from an impressive performance. He was getting outboxed badly and lost 5 of the first 6 rounds.........wasn't moving his head and wasn't cutting off the ring moreso following Gonzalez around.

I know were your coming from, i been following boxing for some time now and i learned to appreciate the sweet science the only thing I got against some fighters is when the make allot of noice that they just kicked someone's ass when all they did was outpoint them For Example Margarito vs Wiliams or Old school fight Chavez vs Whitaker. The way i look at it , if your a slick defensive fighter atleast make it a little entertaining for the fans Just like Ali, Roy jones(back in the days) or Meldrick taylor They were good entertaining slick boxers that didnt put the audience to sleep.
you need all the tools and stuff to win. for example if you dont have chin or even if you have dont try to test it. but many peopel think being enterianing it must be a brawl other than that he is a coward
