If Joe Calzaghe beats Kessler his next opponent looks like it will be Bernard Hopkins. I think this will make a great match up but who will win? Calzaghe is a great fighter and has a undefeated record and also has beaten Eubanks record for most defences of his WBO crown. But has he been tested? The only match that was a real test for Calzaghe was the Eubank fight 10 years ago. The rest he has dominated like his best performance against Lacy and that performance was superb. Hopkins is a legend already in boxing he has had fights with many of the top boxers in the business. He has beaten Felix Trinidad and Glen Johnsen by TKO, De la hoya by KO, outclassed Antonio Tarver and just beat Winky Wright and he was undisputed middleweight champion for 10 years. But Hopkins has been beaten by a Roy Jones Jnr in his prime and was beaten by Taylor twice (which i think he was robbed) to end his 10 year run as champion. Hopkins is 42 years old now can he keep up with Calzaghe's work rate? Can Calzaghe cope with a fighter that could be the pound for pound best? What do you think?
After watching that Hopkins vs Winky fight multiple times now,i don't give Hopkins much of a chance against Calzaghe. I don't think he would get hurt bad,but i see him losing a unanimous decision.
He holds way to much and simply isn't busy enough to hang in there with a guy like Calzaghe.
this fight would be ugly due to clinching from both...B-hop has the ability to make his opponents punches look pitter pattery and soft...hopkins will use his head in this fight...figuratively and literally...sometimes I think Hopkins can win a round without landing a punch...he thinks outside the box when he fights, I just picture Calzaghe throwing combos while hopkins is in his shell then come in with his head or a straight right or any dirty tactic in the eye of joe's storm...if anything Joe won't see it coming since he'll be too preoccupied with his slaps...
Calzaghe would beat Hopkins right now pretty easily; I'd say by about 8-4. Both in their primes, it would have been a hell of a fight. The result oif the Kessler fight has no bearing for me. Kessler is 27 years old and as good as he will ever be and I expect him to defeat Calzaghe and be in the debate for P4P best by late-2008. As long as Kess-Cal is a good fight, win or lose for Cal, I also expect to see Hopkins-Calzaghe next year. It's a great fight with a great hook (best at 160 in last 10 versus best at 168 in last ten) and I spoke with X before Wright who like the idea of saying he beat most of the best guys from 47-75 in his career. Cal is one of the few majors he hasn't faced/defeated.
i dont even know if calzaghe beats kessler let alone hopkins. calzaghe looks good against one dimentional fighters like lacy but the last time he fought an intelligent world class boxer was eubank 10 years ago and joe was young and eubank was a bit past it. fair enough the jury is still out on kessler but i dont think joe can fight like that any more. i know he is younger than hopkins but with his style he wont have the longevity of hopkins. i think calzaghe will hit the wall and get old over night very soon.
thats what im sayin, the guy is too precise.
i hope it happens though, cause anythings possible. for all we know, joe comes through and fends hopkins off with some of that activity.
it's not like joe is a boring fighter, or that hopkins is borning when he gets pressured.
this fight would be worth the PPV if it had a nice undercard.
hopkins should go third time lucky against Taylor...calzaghe...sud go up to light heavy...fight a title holder..n reitre wotever the outcome.
I see defeats for both of them if they hang around any longer then 12-18 months
I would still favor Calzaghe, but Hopkins would certainly have a chance because he's so good strategically, mentally, and he'll use every dirty trick in the book. The fight will never happen, though...

Calzaghe can try and beat Hopkins but Hopkins is to gully and ruthless now if he had that same killer instinct against Taylor he'd prolly still be MW champ! da dude has gotten meaner stronger and gullier all in the midst of loseing his belt and not regaining it
after you tried to compare joe to ali, i seen it all.
ali had a stiff jab to follow. the impact of ali's punches, let ali get away with whatever he wanted.
lol joe's punches are too soft. he's nothing like ali, has no sting like ali, and doesnt even have a fraction of head movement that ali had.
Joe's offense is too soft, he leaves his chin out like sweet pickings, and his leg movement is predictable.
Hopkins eats this guy up, with brutal shots.
only thing thats left to be seen, is if joe has a chin.
Hopkins throws around 1 or 2 "brutal" shots a fight, and they usually miss

you obviously have difficulty reading...i did not compare joe and ali...i said both countered their opponents with techinuques.....dangling the chin..or droppnig their gloves..obviously...u dnt understand...i guess the science of the sport kinda goes over your head...so we'l keep it dumbed down for u.... ' Hopkins to win...USA USA USA...cal***gys going down!' ...happy?..good good
lol gotta be a flat out doofus to see that as a "plus" for joe. Hopkins would exploit those soft punches too fast. He's not the type to get overwhelmed with soft punches..
We've seen the trinidad and oscar fights.
Joe to stay active with slap shots, wouldnt be wise for joe. Bernard would throw somthin sharp between those slap shots. Somthin sharp and mean.
only way joe wins this fight, is if Hopkins buckles under the UK crowd and lets his nerves get to him.
Hopkins already see's it, thats why he's callin the guy out.
he's callnig him out for the money...n the money only!

He wants one last big payday. In the build up to the Wright fight he said "I need to win this fight to go on..."
If he lost his marketability would have plummeted. There aren't many big fights out there for him to cash out, only Jones but that doesn't seem likely.

Fighting former welter/super-feather-weights is slightly different to fighting a guy who has been at 168 for his entire career.
and who has Joe fought that would verify this?
NOT ONE SINGLE FIGHTER with a significant quick punch. Granted, the Lacy fight was a huge win for Joe, but what did Jeff do to test Joe? lol nothing..No defense, or precise offense. He got slapped to death..
Hopkins is cold blooded and precise. Joe's chin dangles out there for a fighter like Hopkins. If Bernard's nerves hold steady, and he doesnt try to "Box" Joe, but go for the kill....I got Hopkins by KO or decision with a knock down or two.
Styles make fights, and Hopkins style is tailor made for to dismantle Joe.
ok..im not going to belittle you for being a moron...or curse your opinion on the fight....BUT you said he dangles his chin..as if it was a technical flaw..it isnt...its like ali holding his hands low...he's inviting his opponent to jump him..so he can counter...its a ploy boxers use...so your reasoning for him beating joe...isnt great.....if a counter puncher knows his opponent has a huge punch..obviously he isnt going to keep his hands as low..or dangle his chin as much...and invite huge punches....(btw i dnt think hopkins is a HUGE puncher)...
...but somepeople have a dislike of calzaghe..and will hope n pray that their fav boxer will give him a beating...and then chant USA USA..and everything ni the world be in its rightful place once again hey?...lol..im not fussed either way...a good fight is a good fight...but this would be an ugly fight....joe should move up....
Asked this a few months ago id' have said a tough fight. But, Hopkins looked old in has last fight and given Calzaghe's work rate and speed, Joe would win this one by decision.
I can't believe people would think that its highly unlikely..
When was the last time hopkins legitimately stopped an opponent? You can't beat calzaghe by throwing as little as hopkins does.
