I like Atlas because he seems to be right the majority of the time, but sometimes he seems to talk too long. My favorite color guy is Bernstein because he seems to call things before they happen and plus he seems not to talk to much and he works really well with Alberts.
I cannot stand Larry Merchant with a passion, I agree lampley is the best, the only thing that bothers me is he becomes a tad bit biased now but he is the best. Merchant is as biased as it gets and only wants to see a barroom brawl.
I like Atlas as a character and Boxing mind - but Jim Lampley is my #1.
Lampley is my favorite as a "blow by blow" commentator but Atlas is my favorite color guy.
it depends what u like if u wanna consider him the best..
i personally consider him the best
based on how his commentary not only explains the fights simply for noobies n shit.. but he also literally gives a boxing lesson based on whatever happens in each fight.. either teddy will have that mindset and be explaining how to get out of a spot , or how to use a spot to ur advantage. or he will be breakin the fighters down by styles and from what he see's. he is a great announcer, better then any of the hbo guys, they all seem too much about the big lights and the main event status they are telecasting, teddy atlas and joe tessitore simply show their true boxing passion and love every show. and its easy to see. friday night fights and wendesday night fights is tha shitt
Let's talk about Atlas as the best only within the US. He's one of two my favourites on American TV along with Merchant. Gendlin and Puchkov are the best commentators in boxing, IMO.
Atlas is a good commentator but certainly not the best. Not with guys like Jim Lampley, Steve Albert, Max Kellerman and Larry Merchant in the mix. I know Larry has some haters but he certainly adds flare to the HBO commentary crew.
As for Teddy, he's certainly better than Lennox Lewis, and Roy Jones in my eyes. I'd rank him just above Emmanuel Steward, and just below Steve Albert. With Kellerman, Lampley and Merchant rounding out the top 3.
I fuckin hate him as a commentator. He talks so much shit about a mans mental make up and all that shit. He dosen't even know the man,to say some of the shit he says. I personally thinks he is overrated. How many champ fights did he produce ? and don't even say mike because he wasen't with mike that long. Grant,Moore ? I just saw them on VH1 "where are they now?"
well it not how many champion he produce but how good he is with boxing that is important for me as a viewer. I dont care even if he never produce not one champion but his shit is quit clean and you could know what is going on in the fight and what the fighters would need to win and if he dont this he would lose

You are right about missing meetings, my bad. But I really did think he was kind of annoying when he commentated. He talked about himself a lot, but I'm a Mayweather fan, and the majority of boxing matches that I have seen on HBO have been Mayweather fights, and he always talks about how good Floyd is "just like I was." I don't know, there was also just something about him that got on my nerves, but there are certain things that bother me with all the past boxer turned commentators (Lewis, Foreman).
Wlad made a comment about roy once "He said I have a weak chin, but then he lost his next two fights........by KO"
lennox lewis all day long. no. atlas has the most knowlidge on boxing out of all the commentators no doubt but lampley is just the best at commentating.
I agree with everything here, 100%. Atlas is good, but Lampley is the best.
And I can't believe someone said they like RJJ as a commentator, you are the first I have heard, which is probably why he lost his job as a commentator with HBO.
RJJ is good at commetating but not entertianing as Lampley or Larry Merchant sometimes being baise is something human and fun to have some comedic thing. Merchant and Lampley give you some personal life on the boxers as well as there past experince and press confernce but other commetators dont that much
but Teddy Atlast is serious motherfucker how puts analysis only and he is good but mostly work no fun. visa versa Merchant and Lampley
Larry Merchant should just be replaced by Atlas. Larry Merchant gets paid for the sole reason to tell everyone as many times as possible if a fight is great or boring.
Yeah he's kind of dumb at times too?
Every fight it seems like he says the wrong thing, or the opposite of what he's trying to say. And then in the post-fight interviews it takes like 8 years to finish. Especially when he interviewed Mayweather Sr. Jesus.
It would be cool if HBO had..
Lampley as play by play..
Atlas/Steward/Merchant.
I'd love to see Atlas with those two.

ummm, what are you talking about? he lost his job because he didn't feel like showinng up to the meetings. RJJ was a great commenter and offered a lot of insight in the fights. He has a great boxing mind,
