That shit is annoying.Other sports dont do shit like that for us.So why should they do it for them. Its been baseball, football, horse racing(yes horse racing),Nascar. What the fuck? All those sports are doing good for themselves to not need advertising by commentators on a boxing show. They do is when some big event is coming to ESPN in days.
Those other sports should be helping out boxing by saying things about our sport.Just something I found interesting. I mean if you're watching boxing why do you wanna hear commentators advertising about some other sport or having guest commentators from other sports on,talking about their sport. Im sure its not up to the commentators, its probably ESPN big ppl.
I understand your complaint, but to ESPN those guests mean more people watching the fight. If Bill Parcells is in there some other folks are more likely to watch for a few minutes.
But you're right more boxers have to get out there in othere sporting events. They should have Oscar do Monday NIght Football or something
Dela Hoya was a guest on Monday Night Football, but that was 13-15 years ago.
advertising is fine. But talking about it and putting it in their commentary and having guest commentators from other sports on talking about THEIR sport is just wrong.

Thats all cool what you said on the last paragraph. But when they did Nascar and the horse racing it was because they had those events coming up later on in the week. So it was like a big commercial when the boxing show was on.
This last couple of weeks, every fight night that they show, it is always located(or near) an upcoming event, like u said a horse racing. Maybe the ESPN's fight nights and the promoters are eaning money from this.
I saw a show where it was a diffirent sports but they were interviewing a boxer, but don't know when it was.
Look at it this way, let say ESPN will have another Friday Night Fights and they announce that they will interview, let say a famous tennis star. Tennis fan might watch FNF for the interview of that tennis superstar but while waiting for the interview, they get to see a boxing fight. This might (hopefully) result adding a new boxing fan. Just an example.

How many Tennis shows have you seen where they have a guest commentator thats a boxer that talks about his sport along with the Tennis commentators talking about boxing also, while Tennis is being played? GET IT

To compare boxing to other sports outside of MMA is more a matter of convenience than disrespect, sort of like a segway. In reality, boxing and mma are a lot tougher than football, basketball, and baseball, etc. Just ask Johnny Morton. He didn't last one minute in his first mma fight after a solid NFL career. It is not that easy to jump in the ring just because you are an athlete from another sport. The same could be said for boxers trying to hit home runs.
In my humble opinion, ESPN is not the definitive sports network. I think Fox has more balanced coverage of all the sports. On Fox, you will see everything. Just go to http://msn.foxsports.com/bestdamn Think back how many times boxers have been on there on sitting down giving commentary on live fights? Espn really has just started doing this, when Fox has been at it a lot longer.
ESPN is a sports channel, that covers diffirent sports, such boxing, football, basketball, soccer, golf, even hot dog eating contest. Get it.

That made me laugh out loud,literally.:lol1:
Seriously man. Teddy has a reputation for being one of the most outspoken and critical trainers/commentators in the sport. He's never been one to shy away from getting angry with someone who he thought didn't know what they were talking about. Here you have this baseball dude sitting right there calling jabs straight hands and Teddy just sat silent.
He may as well have let the guy piss on his leg, I'd have had more fun watching that than listen to the drab commentary.
Yeah. Who the hell was the baseball coach they had on there a week or so ago? Teddy Atlas kept comparing a fighter's spirit to the spirit of a baseball player, and how that effects a boxer's trainer or a player's manager. What's worse was when the dude sat there and commentated on a fight in a sport which he knew very little about.
Listening to him spout dumbed down commentary was almost as bad as Teddy Atlas kissing his ass and always agreeing with him. Teddy acted like a doormat.

yea and its annoying as hell as well.
One thing i find they all have strangely in common, is that they all oggle over the sport as soon as they see it you know? Like they had a Nascar guy on recently that did not wanna say a word about racing, and was just talking about the fight.
And they had a sailboat guy that was annoying as hell, that basically just went awall for boxing.
At least they give boxing a chance, unlike most sports fans
they do though. Tennis commentators, when its on ESPN2, talk about and advertise WNF and FNF sometimes.
But the other things are big. u know? Like these are big tennis names and big baseball games.
When Holyfield and Ibragimov face off, they are gonna advertise it all over the place

Exactly. I wanna hear those sports give us some plugs. It would put boxing up there again.

Great points by both of you guys. ESPN doesn't need more coverage of their various sports. Hell, up until a month ago I thought competitive eating was just an excuse for fat fucks to chow down. Come to find out it's a sport now, at least in ESPN's eyes.
I dont watch much TV so I didnt know about that, I googled around to see if you were kidding... you were not... OMG
I hate when they interview cats from other sports. Then Teddy Atlas compares the two and tries making everything sound so similar.
