He's 21 years old.
The same people who are whining about him fighting "Tomato Cans" and praising Malignaggi in comparison to him, Just remember.
Malignaggi wasn't even a professional when he was 21 years old. Nobody is hyping Chavez and nobody has. People are just interested in seeing his career develop, because he has some good tools to work with. All I read is a bunch of people discussing how "he's going to get exposed". Who is he supposed to be at 21? Fernando Vargas? The most precocious fighter maybe of all time who stepped it up in competition at an early age and essentially ruined his career?

The unfortunate thing about Chavez Jr is everybody loses. Even lb/lb king Roy Jones lost in the ammies. Thats what the amateurs are for, learning and losing. You can learn much from losses than you can from wins and sooner or later he is going to lose. He is going to lose and everybody will be giving him a lot of undeserving shit for it. And a loss in the record these days is pretty much a career breaker...
chavez isn't ready for anyone with some offense period... he needs to fight bums who come forward hard now or he will never be ready... not out of shape bums who are used taxi cab salesmen... mussua, Paul, mitchell, vince, the cuban lover, some fights like this would be good in 08. truth be told he isn't ready for much more than what they been giving him
Constructive critisism means a person is a hater? Why is it so wrong to want the guy who is supposed to be a pro to take fights that are closer to his skill level?
I don't give a damn who his father is, I am a new'ish boxing fan anyways. I do think it stinks to have to pay for the shitty fights his team keeps setting up. What the hell does that have to do with his father? Nothing. He isn't fighting guys who ever stood a chance against him, so why should we have to pay to watch the crap?
Chavez Jr has a large fan base already because of his dad and many people want to see him, thats why he is on televised cards. People know he is fighting bums but they want to see him regardless, there are others who dont want to see him but he is obviously bringing in money and thats why he keeps getting on PPV cards.
i could'nt agree more, now all you haters that think you're giving constructive critisicm, this is the way you do it, he's not ready yet, but mabe in a few years he will be. they should keep him out of the ppv's though, and the media does hype him up too much, but that's the media, not him doing it.

i like chavez jr. i admire his heart and the courage he has to go in and fight with limited experience.
what i dont like is the father/son comments that i hear all the time.
will paulie knockout chavez jr? no...or highly, highly, highly unlikely...like 1000 to 1 odds.
will he put him down for at least a knock down...that about 100 to 1 odds.
paulie is by no means a powerpuncher. the only reason ndou went down is because he ran right into paulie's punch. it was a "flash" knockout. not a legitmate, "i hurt you" knockdown.
paulie shouldnt say he'll knock him out because no one in their right minds would believe that...thats like how much people believed floyd when he said he'd beat de la hoya so bad (and knock him out) that it would be a "massacre" i didnt believe that talk from floyd...and what do you know...he didnt knockout oscar...it wasnt a "massacre" and he never even knocked him down...same goes for paulie.
i do like paulie though. i think he's a good boxer...he's not a brawler nor will he ever be but what made me a fan was when he went up against cotto and hung in for 12 rounds of punishment. someone like paulie going the distance says something about a guy like paulie...it shows his heart because we all knock cotto can punch you HARD...REALLY HARD.
anyway though...chavez i think needs (for his own sake) not to be compared to his dad and i think they shouldnt be putting him up on a pedestal just because his father was (argueably) one of the greatest mexican fighters of all time.
chavez needs time to grow as a fighter.
do i think he'll be great one day? absolutely (as long as his head doesnt get big like zab judah).
will he be just as good (if not better) than his father? i doubt it. those are some pretty big shoes to fill.
either way i dont hate chavez...i just dont want him to get a big loss at this point in his career and have a negative effect on him or break his spirit.

If he has no amatuer fights...guess who's fault is that??
If he's still in the learning stages and needs to go slow...then he should be fighting in Fair park gyms and not on tv..especially on the ppv undercard receiving airtime and money for fighting cabbies while the rest has to earn it the hard way. That's why Boxing is mesed up today. Boxers can pick any opponents suitable for them...outprice themselves in order to avoid a confrontation... Become professional even though they're not..lol I wish Boxing was more like Baseball or Football where you have to earn your professionalism!! Not become professional only to use it as a training course and of course making money off of it doesn't hurt either.
Problem is we have too many die hard cheerleading Jr fans that are willing to turn a blind eye to the situation , make excuses for him and not point out the mistakes. People now a days mistake constructive criticism with "hating".
I'm not hating on anyone and i'm only speaking for myself. Chavez jr has talent and decent skills but needs to be tested every once in awhile to keep him sharp before moving to the next level. It's called common sense.
guess who's fault that is? damn that sounds like you're pissed at nothing. and everything you just said sounds like you're hating, not constructive criticism. like you have an excuse for everything i just said. i gave some good reasons why he's going slow. people just like to knock on jr cause he has his fathers name, he's getting up there slowly but surely, there will always be someone hating on him, wheather they think they are or not.
I think it would be nice if Chavez Jr were fighting people closer to his own skill level. He doesn't need to fight top contenders or even people that I have heard of. I don't care about that. HIs fights are just damn boring because he only fights bums. He will always be an amature if all he fights are bums.
he needs this he needs that, stfu already, what he needs is what he's doing, taking it slow. if anyone here has ever been a fighter you know you need a good amature career to learn everything, if you don't then it won't work unless you do what they are doing with jr. everyone wants him to have big fights against better opponents already, why? he's still in that learning stage. look at oscar, he had something like 200 fights in the amatures, jr has 33 fights total, and you idiots are wondering why he's going slow? you guys are either stupid or don't know shit about the process of making it as a prize fighter. now i will give you this, he should have done the amature thing, but he did'nt, so he's doing the next best thing there is,going slow. i think he has the potential to be one of the greats, but it will take time. from the fights i've seen he's been learning alot fast, so in the next 5 years he will be one of the top names. so give the kid a break, stop hating, at least he's trying

Point is...Those guys didn't win 33 pro fights or make it far by fighting only cab drivers.
Vargas had no business being in the ring with Tito who was the Tyson of the welter and jr midddle div at that time (who imo was the begining of the end for vargas) but Vargas could've continued fighting guys like Winky who's not heavy handed or former champs with more experience instead of Tito. And that's what's going to happened to Chavez jr if he only continues to fight cabbies...if not worse. He needs a boost, he needs someone that will test him and challenge him in the ring that will take him the full 12 rounds..He needs someone in his league not below or above. That is how he will get the real experience he needs for the big shots. You're suppossed to climb up the steps of the ladder, not stay in one place.

@ 21 i think Jr. still has the license to fight Cab drivers. Maybe he can step it up @24
Fighters optimum/Prime comes on different age.
Vargas was shot @25 ( more of the mental aspect )
Tyson was champ @20
Benitez was champ @ 17 or 18
PAC was champ @ 19
Morales was downhill from 29
Lennox Lewis' prime was when he was already 35 IMO
Evander thinks he can be undesputed @44, 45 :puppy_dog
and so on.....
so if jr's handlers feels that he's not ready yet then they might be right.

Chavez Jnr should just step it up if he wants any real credit in the boxing world.
El Terrible's father threw him in against good fighters at an early age to see if he could swim and he could. The only way you get better is by fighter better fighters. So what if you loose, he could learn something in the process.
I know Jnr didn't have much on an am career, but he's not exactly fighting on ESPN. SO that's why I think I'm hard on him, he's on every TOP Rank PPV fighting above the likes of Soto etc.

Are you new to boxing?? You ever heard of Floyd Patterson, Kid Chcoclate, Tyson, Benitez, Trinidad.. etc... Those guys won titles at age 21 and under.
But i'm not talking about Titles, i'm just saying Chavez jr should step up a notch or two to challenge himself. He has 33 wins..it's about time to move up to the Garbage truck drivers and forget the cab drivers.
And stop bringing up his age...YES HE"S 21 a young ADULT!!!!! He's not 12!!
pacquiao won title at 19 :boxing:
So true, Vargas could've done so much better if he would've taken it easy.
And the pinoys should stfu about him too cause Bautista is also like 21 and his ass is gonna get his ass whooped on Saturday, and whats the excuse gonna be? That he was TOO GREEN... lol
OMFG!!! :hitit:
WTF??!!!! can u stop thingking about pinoys for a moment. it was nice going through this thread and BOOM!!!! its that hatred again :nonono:

kudos again my friend. i can give a whole list of boxers who have stepped up the opposition at the age of 21!! 21 is not the new 13. he is a 21 yr old adult. you got that right. he also has 33 wins under his belt. if he was 3-0 at the age of 21 that would be a different story. people need to stop using his age and lack of amatuer career as an excuse. he can easily earn his stripes in the gym and gain a lot of experience from there. he really needs to step up just a bit. vargas's career wasnt ruined cuz he stepped up to quick. he beat down yory boy at 21, fought winky well, handled ike. but he just fought a beast in tito and took punishment. tito ruined his career. not "stepping it up too soon".
If he wasn't 21 years old, I'd agree.
But you're asking him to become a second coming of Fernando Vargas......and take his place as the most precocious fighter in the history of boxing. Sure he'll eventually fight better opponents.
Nobody "steps it up" at 21 years old, it's unheard of. End of story.

Nope...he supposed to fight Superman and Spiderman with one hand tied behind his back. :ugh:
RunW/Knives, I will repeat myself one more time...i've already explained that he should now consider to fight other prospect contenders, former 'washed up' champs that could give the young little innocent child better ring experience.
I'm not saying that he should fight The #1 Champion Title Holder of the world...i'm simply only stating that he should just move up a level or two in opposition. Can you comprehend that? I`m not putting him down or hating on him..It's called giving a "Constructive Criticism".

This isn't the second coming of Mike Tyson.

HE'S TWENTY FUCKING ONE YEARS OLD AND HE LACKED AN AMATEUR CAREER.
Who is he supposed to fight right now? Miguel Cotto?
Nope...he supposed to fight Superman and Spiderman with one hand tied behind his back. :ugh:

Who? Ndou? He's not that good a fighter, never has been. I'm not knocking anyone and I'm not trying to remotely claim Chavez has faced better opposition.
I'm just pointing out that in Paulie's biggest fight he was beaten badly, and lost the fight on all cards clearly.
He followed that up with a decisive victory over a 36 year old journey man who was never a world beater to begin with. Outside of those two fights, he hasn't faced guys you can point to being better than the guys Chavez knocks out.
I can understand if someone states "Well based on what Malignaggi showed against Cotto in his biggest test I'd favor him to beat Chavez simply on the principal that he has fought a top fighter"
That's different than claiming Malignaggi has "beat the better level of opposition" that's just fucking stupid.
Malignaggi hasn't beat anyone, neither has Chavez.
but to compare title contenders to complete bum from the midwest is just ludacris
