Basically Ray Hatton says they ahve been planning this fight for 18 months..and they have been telling each otehr to not fight anyone who might take their '0' from them...as afuture fight would not look as lucrative..or even be makeable....personally i think its strange t hear someone actally say this from one camp...yeh sure you get peple saying...he is taking easy fights..he's doign this n this..blah blah..but when someone from one of the camps says it..it just gives it some credability
Ricky Hatton's father has revealed that his son's 'superfight' with Floyd Mayweather has been on the cards for the last 18 months.
Ray Hatton, who manages his son's affairs, told radio station talkSPORT that discussions with Mayweather's camp had been taking place since early in 2006, with the fight finally coming to fruition this week when contracts were signed for the pair to meet on December 8.
Hatton snr said: "We've been talking to people from Mayweather's camp for 18 months. We've had dialogue going back as far as that. We've had conversations - 'let's be careful who the lads fight, try and keep them unbeaten, let's try and make it over 80 fights', which is a bit of a record for two unbeaten fighters to get in the ring.
"But it isn't that easy in boxing.
"As it was coming up to the Castillo fight (v Hatton) and the Oscar De la Hoya fight (v Mayweather) the conversations did take on a new turn because it was a matter of if Floyd could beat a living legend in Oscar and if Ricky could 'do' Castillo, then the fight got even closer."
Asked if Hatton would be piling on the pounds to fight Mayweather at welterweight, Hatton said: "When we fought Luis Collazo, we made a mistake. We tried to make him as big as the guy he was fighting. When you only have a stature of 5ft 7in there are limitations of what weight he can put on before it affects him.
"We slowed him down. His body was carrying more weight than what it was used to when it was put under exertion in a 12-round fight, so his performance dropped off.
"I caused a lot of confusion a few weeks ago when I said that Ricky Hatton wouldn't be fighting at welterweight. What I actually said was that he may be fighting for titles at welterweight. But he will not be coming in the ring as a welterweight. He'll be coming in the ring as a light-welterweight fighting a welterweight.
"We won't to be putting on weight he doesn't need. We've made that mistake once; we won't be making that mistake again."
Ricky Hatton fought Juan Urango and Luis Collazo.
Floyd fought Zab Judah and Oscar Delahoya.
If there was a plan to only take easy fights, Hatton kept it to himself.
Ricky Hatton fought a highly regarded but past his sell-by-date fighter called Castillo. Floyd fought a highly regarded but past his sell-by-date fighter called Oscar De La Hoya. Ricky fought a guy who was huge for the weight but of limited skill called Juan Urango, Floyd fought a guy who was huge for the weight but of limited skill call Carlos Baldomir. Ricky fought a slick southpaw who had him in difficulty in parts of the fight called Luis Collazo. Floyd fought a slick southpaw who had him in difficulty in parts of the fight called Zab Judah.
And the more I think about it the more I realize that Oscar's only chance against Hatton would be an early KO. If he doesn't manage it by the fourth round Hatton wins by decision.
DLH for Mayweather was far far far from a safe fight. Mayweather won, but Oscar wasn't exactly a push over. DLH was the fight that Mayweather wanted for years not Hatton, sure his payday for fighting Ricky is a nice one, but not as good as his last one.
Castillo was a very safe fight for Hatton.
You never know....
another thing is....floyd said Hatton called him out...and thats why he came out of retirement..but fromwhat Ray Hatton ahs just said...1. Floyd never had anyintention of retiring...it was all a fabrication...2. Hatton calling him out..wasplanned..just like a story...and he knew floyd would come out n say something, and contracts would be signed...floyd didnt comeout of retirement cus he was caleld out..he fabricated it..and came out of retirement to play up to this story board both camps had created...its sickening if its true..which it sounds liek it is...it makes boxing no better then that fake ass WWE stuff.
It looks very contrived...just as DHL Vs PBF was...I really hope it isnt..and this is all rubbish...but if this is true.....it does make me rethink buying this fight...especially when i think of the DHL Vs PBF fight..and the obviously made up fued before thatfight..and then the laclustre fight to follow it
These days, most people will make up or say anything.
To me, as long as they hit each other for real in the ring, I'll watch it.:boxing:

yea, but at the same time...win or lose...Floyd would either rematch, win or lose or go back down and fight Hatton...either way Hatton's camp was lookin at it as a win-win situation...and to them there's no shame in losing to Oscar, but also would look great on his opponent's resume on who he's beaten.....
and another question...who did Margarito beat besides Cintron????? Margarito got owned by Joshua Clottey until Clottey broke his hand....it would of been Paul Williams vs Clottey if that didn't happen....and trust me i actually watch the fights unlike most of you guys who let the writers and so called experts tell you wat happened....the internet is whats killing boxing if you want to get technical....look at all the great fights so far this year and ya'll are still bitching. the only bad fight i seen all 2007 is that taylor spinks stink fest
how did floyd duck margarito??? Margarito didn't deserve a shot at the best. How did he duck margarito when he only had TWO fights at welter. He beat Zab...then he beat the man who beat Zab so he can lay claim to the lineal Welterweight championship.....would you rather fight for the WB uhO or would u rather fight for the REAL championship???? plus everybody knows that floyd recognizes the WBC as the REAL belt. He only won the IBF belt because the idiots let zab keep it
floyd didn't duck anyone at 147 having fought zab, baldo, and oscar that is far superior then collazo, urango, and castillo.
Realistically there's not much difference in stature of opponents in the last three fights.
it was clear ricky was looking for the pathof least resistance. after besating collazo he refused to unify with baldomir, and dropped back down to face urango. floyd didn't duck anyone at 147 having fought zab, baldo, and oscar that is far superior then collazo, urango, and castillo. fight night you will see the difference in talent
LMAO your too funny.. didn't duck anyone? How bout Margarito? All he has been doing is fighting paper champions and C class fighters. Yeah Baldomir, Gatti and Judah are big accomplishments
I think Ray hatton needs to say a little less - I find his comments irritating and somewhat inconsistent at times.
He's as bad as ellerbe, just not as funny. He's not a coach or a nutritionist, so why does he talk like he's both graham and Kayes.
