On one hand, you have Darchinyan, an undefeated big talker with some flashy KOs with a marketable personality. However, he lacked defense and skill and was heading to the floor eventually anyways.
Replacing him is Nonito Donaire, a young kid with good skill but a less explosive style but is Filipino, which is the new Mexican of marketable ethnicities. He's a "I Do my talking in the ring" kind of guy", which doesn't help reel in non-hardcore boxing fans.
So did Gary Shaw strike gold with his new star, or did money just go in the toilet?
It's good for Shaw in that it's less stressful on a matchmaker to match up Donaire. Vic is good, but much like Arce, the wrong guy style-wise can easily expose, in fact drive a truck through, the holes in his game.
Also, while Vic was becoming a Showtime regular, his stateside base didn't seem to extend very far outside of CA. Arce was/is far more popular; Arum could literally market a show around him. Shaw can't claim the same of Vic, and honestly I don't think it was ever happening unless he fought and beat someone as POPULAR (not as good, but as popular) as Arce.
Its bad...Darchinyan had the type of style to one day put him into a potential million dollar payday which is nearly unheard of at these ultra low weights.
Arum may have fucked up the first million dollar payday with Vic vs. Arce and with the horrid knockout loss Vic just suffered...it will be extremely tough for Gary or Vic to ever climb to that million dollar potential again in this weight class.
I like Nonito but his style will never be one that garners that coveted million dollar payday.
If he can KO another belt holder with that Left Hook in that same dramatic fashion... It might be possible.

i think its good because darchinyan fights like a drunk man in a bar and is a dick...or at least after the fight, he was a dick....
as long as nonito keeps winning its good fro shaw...and thats why i doubt he will be putting donaire with mijares anytime soon....
Alaves vs Mijares is more intersting fight.

Gary Shaw gain is another fighters loss and boxing loss.
That guy made some racist comment toward Hackshaw what was that going around lately?
How do promoters get there money anyway how is the money is made in boxing ?
Being that the competition is Daisuke Naito, Takufumi Sakat and Omar Narvaez. Nonito's goal is to unify, and as long as they picks the fights in the correct order this could be gold.
