Being a fan of both guys, i thought both guys did what they could... their both future HOFers.. i think i'd have Hopkins winning 115-113 or a draw..
Now...
With many people complaining about this fight, would you rather watch this fight again (Wright-Hopkins) or Jermain Taylor-Cory Spinks again? If you have to watch one...
And 117-111 should never have been a score for this fight, much less the score of two of the judges.. just my opinion
really not as bad a fight as i had heard having not seen it live saturday night
ALSO, if saying that in this type of fight he thought he won, giving credit saying Bernard had better legs and that the headbutt happened but was not intentional... how the hell do you get off calling Winky Wright a crybaby.. anyone saying this is simply someone that doesn't like Wright and could be known as what many call by definition.. a "hater".
For a 42 and 30-some year old... i thought they both came in trying to win to the best of their abilities...
And now i'm gonna go watch the undercard!!!! :D
I scored the fight 116-112 for Hopkins & didn't think the fight was as bad as I some said. To me Winky lost the fight because he couldn't hit Hops consistently & he faded very bad down the stretch; particularly from rounds 10-12. I think the extra weight & the hard body shots he took wore him alot down faster than usual.
I saw the fight as a draw. I mean I saw no real dominance from either fighter. Yeah Hop was throwing most of the power punches but they were being blocked. And Wright never really dominated with his jab either. They pretty much went back and forth so I ruled it a draw.
Oh he's not crying? Why is there an interview on ********** where he says "I definitely won that fight" ??? How can he "definitely" win a close fight? Nobody thought he won, most people thought Hopkins won, and a few thought it was a draw. That is crying, dude.
jeez I dont get were this draw opinion is coming from, Hopkins clearly in my opinion won the fight. I dont agree with the 117 score for b-hop but he DID win.
I had it 114-114 and thought Ledderman was right on point with his scoring. The Spinks--Taylor fight was bad but I actually thought it was better than I expected it to be. Spinks put up a real good fight and came in with the only gameplan he could of used if he was trying to find a way to win. Don't get me wrong it was boring but Spinks did a good job considering he shouldn't even have been matched up with Taylor!!!!
I had the fight 115-113 for Hopkins and stop trying to shit on Jermain Taylor lol. Its not Jermain's fault Cory never gave him even a chance to engage a fight. Jermain had difficulty making 160.
I accidentally downloaded the British feed and watched that so I don't know what the HBO guys were saying, but I thought the fight was pretty good and scored it 115-113 Hopkins. It wasn't a great fight, but it was certainly entertaining and very watchable. I don't see why people were calling it so incredibly boring.
I suspect, however, that the HBO crew had something to do with that. Were they talking the fight down during it? I absolutely hate it when they do that. It is their job to sell the fight, not turn people away from the sport.
I would much rather watch this fight again. Lederman had Winky ahead until the later rounds, which he had Hopkins taking, and therby getting a draw. I agreed with that more than anything - and I could see either man getting a razor thin decision. Wright threw less punches and landed more- so you have to like his accuracy and effective punching...but Bernard far outwhealmed him in power punching category. That night the judges most obviously prefered the man who was landing the harder shots. I think, though Winky landed more, it was not enough of a difference to counterbalance Hopkins and his power punches.
Spinks-Taylor was a joke. Spinks had no business fighting a strong, solid middleweight champion- and Taylor was expected to do more. It was an awkward, boring fight - I thought the skills of Hopkins and Wright made for a far, far better match.
