I was just wondering if there was anyone else on the forum as dumb as me when it comes to gambling.
The most I have lost was $10,000 on the first Holyfield/Tyson fight going UNDER 8 1/2 rounds. I wish to Fuck he had bit his ear off in that fight and I would have won a small fortune. If I had not been a greedy Bastard and bet just $1000 on Holyfield, I would have won $25,000 and been in profit for $16,000 but I was SO SURE Tyson would kill him quick.
The most I have won was betting $3,000 to win $12,000 on Byrd beating Tua on points.
The most I have bet was $12,000 to win $5,000 on DeLahoya beating Chavez in their first fight. I was shitting bricks until the bad cut in the first 30 seconds.
Now the bookmakers put caps on the amount you can bet so you need to join multiple books to make big bets. In case anybody is wondering, the sportsbook with the highest limit for ordinary boxing is Stan James from Britain. The highest limits for superfights are from Pinnacle but they do not accept U.S customers any more.
Anyone else with any interesting fight bets?
My cousin fights MMA out of Missippi and I visit him periodically and rolled with some BJJ guy down there once. Its not so much the one move that was catching me but the transitions which come so fast that they are hard to stop.
But that was when we started from the mat. I wrestled D1 and he wasn't able to get a takedown :).
There is no doubt, wrestlers are tough cookies.
Sounds like you are picking Gonzaga. GOOD!! I believe your money is safe on that fight.
I will give you a little insider info. My BJJ instructor (Ze Mario Esfiha) is a monster on the mats. Josh Koscheck came and trained with us a couple of years ago and Esfiha was easily turning him into a pretzal (Esfiha is much bigger and Josh is much improved since then but Esfiha is no joke). At the last BJJ world championship's, Gonzaga subbed Esfiha in the quarter finals. I know first hand how good Esfiha is, so this makes me super impressed with Gonzaga's skills. Take it for what it's worth.

The thing is Gonzaga is bigger, has better standup, is younger and is a BJJ specialist.
Randy has 1 way of winning this fight and that is by taking down Gonzaga. Gonzaga's BJJ should still make him competitive if he is on his back but I will give the advantage to Randy if they are in this position.
Now you take Gonzaga and he can win standing or if he gets a takedown. BJJ should also means that his take down defense should be decent at least.
Another huge factor for me is that Randy is not a KO guy even when he is dominating. The fight is a championship fight so that means 5 rounds and I believe Randy at his age will not be as fresh in the later rounds.

Are you picking Couture or Gonzaga? Most people seem to be going with Gonzaga due to the Cro Cop fight (I think that was a fluke, I don't see him beating Randy with a high kick).
Randy had major problems with Ricco and Barnett, 2 big, strong guys with good ground and pound. Gonzaga has very good ground and pound but is also the world champ in BJJ so he is also good at subs.
Randy needs to stay off his back or he will get murdered. His best chance is to take it to the late rounds and drown him. In Gonzaga's only defeat, he badly ran out of gas against Werdum.

I bet a tenner Frank Bruno would knock Tyson out in round 5 in the rematch and i still bitch about it no way did he lose 10 grand he must be making it up, or he's a criminal with money he's got to get rid of, I'd end up in the nut house over that much don't know wether he's fuckin stupid, rich or rich and stupid
good post though
did you recover mate
If you are talking about me. Yes I did lose $10,000 on the first Tyson Holyfield fight going under 8 1/2 rounds.
I did recover but I did not bet again for a couple of years and when I started betting again, I never bet close to $10,000 on one fight.
I had a dream I could quit work and make money betting on boxing. Tyson stomped on the dream's testicles as though it were one of my kids LOL.
I bet ~$500 a weekend and I'm telling you I stay away from MMA. I might bet on the rare occasion but for the most part its so unpredictable that it makes it problematic to consistently pick enough winners to make make a profit.
My last MMA bets were Mercer-Kimbo (not really MMA more like street fight) and the other was Liddell vs Jackson. My next MMA bet will be Coulture vs Gonzaga

I bet $45,550 on Oscar beating Floyd on Points. I lost that obviously.
I bet $6,500 on Cotto beating Judah by KO/TKO and I won obviously.
bullshit your making it up, you lucky bastard if you have'nt or unlucky which ever the case my be lol

They probably run better than average on underdog picks, but in my opinion, no pick is worth paying for. In fact, I don't think anyone ought to ever take someone else's advice on a pick where money is laid out. I don't ever offer my opinion to anyone I know if they're thinking about placing a bet. EVER. If they ask me whether I'm betting, and who I'm betting on, I'll tell them, but with the caveat that it's MY bet, they shouldn't follow me like a stupid sheep.
Anyway, like I said, I don't bet much anymore. Took WAY too long to get my money for the Wright/Trinidad win, and I don't live anywhere near Vegas, and I don't like to drive to a "local" casino (about 60 miles) to place a bet either. They don't give the same odds as they do in Vegas or A.C. or even the places online. Rinky-dink outfits suck.
Anyway, I'm a builder, and double my money on every investment (if it costs me $80k to build a house, I sell it for $160k, and so on), so I'm really more into that kind of betting, personally. It's a sure thing, and the odds are always +200. The most I've ever made on a fight was on the Wright/Trinidad, and I barely broke $20k, and it took longer to collect than it does for me to build a mediocre house that I make 4 times that on.
A sure thing at +200 are very good odds. I can understand why you stick to building LOL.
I agree with you Brother. All I am saying is, that they are pretty good at picking underdogs, especially on MMA.

None of those picks were surprises, or anything that the average knowledgable fan wouldn't get. If they were that good, they wouldn't be selling their picks, they'd be betting on them themselves. Sort of like a stocks advisor....if they're so fucking good, why do they need my money to make a living?

There is a boxing website calles kofightpicks and they seem to be very good at picking winners for both boxing and MMA. They seem to win a lot because they have insiders knowledge on who the house fighter is or who has an injury, like what you are talking about. The only problem is, it costs too much money for their picks. If you e-mail them, they usually give you some free picks to prove themselves.
The free picks they gave me were-
Gomez beats Gatti.
Gomez beats Gatti inside the distance.
Gomez/Gatti under 9 1/2 rounds.
Williams beats Margarito.
Jones beats Hanshaw on points.
Cintron/Matthysse under 9 1/2 rounds.
Thompson beats Krasniq.
I did lose a lot of money on one of their picks so it made me gunshy with them. They said to bet the house on Hatton but they also said to bet the house on the fight going the distance. I bet Hatton on points.

well you just exposed yourself a liar as holyfield was never a 25-1 underdog in that fight lol
"An 8-1 underdog (down from the opening line of 25-1), Holyfield shows more courage and skill as he dominates the fight in Las Vegas. "

I am sorry to say ,he is not a liar. I bet on that fight going under 8 1/2 rounds with a place called Carribean Sports and they had Holy as 25-1 underdog because I was wishing I had bet $1,000 on him by the end of the night.
I bet $125 on The Real Deal in his first fight with Iron Mike at 25-1 odds. Best bet I ever made! You do the math to see how I cleaned up.
