If Floyd can be a Wright/Tarver like caliber opponent at 42 years of age then he has a chance.
42 years of age and STILL a contender (no breaks) is extremely impressive IMO.
I'm surprised that Hopkins is still in there at such a high level as well. His age will catch up to him in this fight, I think. Calzaghe's quickness and work rate will kill Hopkins chances of trying to rest up when needed, like tarver and winky did.
I am right. He beat DLH while coming into the ring as a welterweight. A fighter his size really has no business above 140...
I always had a problem with Bernard and his weight. Seems to me like he feels confident fighting smaller opponents.
Hopkins made a career out of beating guys smaller than him. Mayweather made a career out of beating guys bigger than him. I give the edge to Mayweather...
You're probably right. He walks around at 170
Do people really think Floyd would'nt have defended the Super Featherweight title 30 times if he wanted to? Instead of sticking around and fighting guys like Carl Daniels and Hakkar, he moved up and fought the Lightweight Champion.
Mayweather...Everyone in the world know this dude is and will retire undefeated..One he finishes with the WW division then I want you to make this same thread..

I give more credit to someone who holds a belt for 20 defenses. You set yourself up as THE MAN TO BEAT and you take on all challengers. They know where you are.
Leaping up in weights and not taking on the strongest in the divisions you move to doesn't impress me as much.
I would not have given Hopkins huge credit for Maskaev if he'd got the fight. That would be an example of cherry picking. His fights with Winky and Tarver who WERE very highly regarded and major challenges make his resume seem even better.
IF Floyd takes on the other WW champs and unifies again then I will happily tout him as the best fighter of our era.
I wouldn't be mad at someone going for B-Hop. Bernard beat a blown up Trinidad, DLH, and Wright(well not really) to be honest. He did have very good wins and is a legend, but Floyd has gone up in weight beating every opponent. Its tough for me to decide.
Middleweight Champion 20 title defenses (some were weak)
5 division Champion 5 Different Weightclasses (Gatti, and Baldomir weak opposition but were champions)
Maybe the edge to Bernard, but if Floyd beats a big name he could get the nod.
Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Not even close for me. Imagine Floyd being at 147 and fighting Juan Diaz. He'd be crucified for it right?
Right...
:werd:
Apparently Mayweather is the only man in boxing history to be a 5 weight world champ by age 30.
I voted Hopkins, based on the middleweight defense record. I don't care if he drained himself to 160 instead of staying at 175. Just like I dont care that Paul Williams must do the same thing, Diego Corrales (R.I.P.) as well. If you can pull it off and still be able to perform, why not?
hopkins....his results a really impressive, and he has fought some great fighters and beat them.
and at 42 still being able to be at the top, its amazing.
2 of my most favorite fighters. They're both credited with impressive stuff throughout their careers, stuff that 90% of boxers today (& retired)couldn't even begin to say. Couldn't even vote on this one, DIG IT?!?:boxing:
