The main event was alright, but anyone who was expecting a great fight simply doesnt know boxing.
I was expecting a good fight, one that was gonna be a ton better then all these critics were calling it. A snoozefest and stuff. I got what i wanted.
Not to mention the TERRIFIC two undercards that stole the show, the knockout by Andrade as well.
You saw the emergence of 2 EXCITING young fighters, one very skilled and one with a lot of will, and you saw them BOTH is very good fights, the Katsidis was was awsome.
And the Andrade fight was just another chance to get to see this very exciting brawler. To bad Katsidis and Andrade arent in the same division eh? lol
I was satisifed even BEFORE The main event, and i dont see how you couldnt be. The main event was sloppy and ugly, but it wasnt this TERRIBLE fight.
To be fair to Wright and Hopkins I think they actually exceeded some expectations. There was quite a bit of clinching, and some moments were awkward, but it was obviously a fight. Both men landed some good punches- Hopkins completely abandoned his jab and went for power punches, compubox confirms that. Anyone who watches boxing should have known that Hopkins is a crafty, old-school boxer and not a brawler- so he wasn't going to bring heat. Wright is a defensive counter puncher- so he wasn't going to bring it, either. But they were going to fight- just in their own style.
Who didn't like the fight? People who prefer the brawlers like Gatti, et al. to the pure boxers. Those who enjoy knockouts more than just watching two tacticians go at it. The fight was not boring. These men did not run and pot shot - they just fought with their own style- a boxing style for the most part, not a brawling one.
I knew what I was in for. The fight met my expectations. The under-card exceeded it. Katsidis stole the show and got my entire living room jumping up and down. It was fast paced, bloody, with knock-downs. You also got stoppages in the first fight with Andrade and in the fight with Larios, too. So there was the violence of the sport for those that craved it. Combined with the skill of the two main combatants there was something for everyone. No, it wasn't an amazing A+ fight...but I'd give it a solid B. Worth the money and a decent Saturday night, right? Who expected anything else?
Masterful skill- Wright-Hopkins
A bloody war - Katsidis- Amonsot
A well paced, solid fight ending in a KO - Larios- Linares.
A quick, brutal beating- Andrade-Muller.
Doesn't that sound decently rounded?
Well worth 50 dollars if I had spent it. The undercard fights were very good, and not only was the main event entertaining, it was a big fight. Sometimes the spectacle is more than enough. I was at the edge of my seat for the DLH/Mayweather fight because it meant something.
You got what you SHOULD have expected from the main event plus a ACTION PACKED undercard. Whats to complain about?
Word. :fing02:
You have to be a frickin retard to complain about Hopkins vs. Wright or even De La Hoya vs. Mayweather..
Only about 99.9% of the Boxing establishment predicted correctly what these fights were going to be anything like, months in advance..
I know kids under 10 years old with more realistic expectations and comprehension skills.
Seriously.
I'll watch these two guys NOT fight in a week for free.
Im not dissapointed I didnt buy it...considering if you watch boxing at all, you knew what to expect.
Winky's "awesome" defense not being enough to win yet again
BHops "awesome" dirty tactics, 1-2 Hug, etc...
Lots of hugging and posing.
Lots of dissapointment from the mainstream fans,
and a mixed reaction from the hardcore fans.
SUPRISE!
I could have told you that when the fight was signed.
And I did I think.
=)
I can't believe how much you get charged for your PPVs over in the US. I mean, in Britain we do get shafted for a satellite subscription but our PPVs are usually 10 quid, 15 at the most which equates to roughly $22 ($33 max.) But $49.95? Jesus!
I was'nt disappointed....It was a great card and the main event could have been worse. The scoring was crazy tho.....It was alot closer than they had it.I personally had it 116-115 for Hopkins but I did have 3 even rounds that I just could'nt decide on and feel neither fighter really won or lost. There was alot of good shit going on in that ring last night tho like the Hopkins possum he tried that Winky did'nt fall for.....alot of tricky old pro shit went on in their last night......Also WTF was Manny Steward saying that Winky should retire.....He was sluggish I think because of the added weight and gave away the last two rounds by simply not doing enough but I think he would be fine at 160.....Hopkins should probably retire I was'nt real impressed with him and doubt he could hang with Chad Dawson at this point or any other top busy punching fighter at 175.He could fight Jones again though for the money....I'd watch.
i actually enjoyed Hopkins and Winky. My fav fight this year still has to be the Pavik Miranda match up but i wouldn't call the hopkins winky a bad fight. Although i wasent expecting winky to look that sloppy, the man was just throwing his arms everywhere and didnt even really attempt to establish his jab.
i dont regret paying to watch this event.
I spent about $17, including cover charge, a beer, a tip for the waitress and about three singles placed between big fake titties. Yahooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was pathetic and HBO should refund everyone who paid to watch it...
PPV Fights like that is what is bad for boxing
PPV cards like that are whats GOOD for boxing! How in the world is that bad?
a FOTY candidate, a 2nd round knockout, and a new born mexican star who is amazingly talented it seems.
Event he Main event was better then expected.
If this fight WAS NOT PPV, then nobody would have ever seen KATSIDIS-AMONSTOT (other then the 9 people in the crowd at the time lol) which was a great fight

It seems to be a trend with HBO; the DLH-Mayweather main event also stunk but the undercards were very entertaining...

Why,u got two great fights on the undercard,a possible FOTY,yeh Winky vs Bernard wasnt great, but it wasnt terrible either, just because Bhop vs Winky was the main event doesnt mean u judge the whole PPV on them, when u get two sick undercard fights you should be happy
The Hopkins-Wright fight, it wasn't boring. Even with their styles, they tried to make it exciting. BHOP, his style does not complement Wright's style. BHOP's style is awkward(spelling?) on last nights fight. He was impressive against Tarver, but not against Winky.
Linares-Larios was a good fight. I don't think Larios is wash-up or shot already. He just fought a younger and better fighter.
While i was rooting for Amonsot to win against Katsidis, due to being KO'ed twice in his lost, i thought he would't last the fight. He suprised me in the 3rd and 4th by using jabs. Even though he did not hurt Katsidis, the WBO champ felt the punches of Amonsot. Even with the knockdown(2nd round), after the 4th round, Amonsot had a chance to win the fight by just boxing at a distance. But as you see in the later rounds, he would let himself get close by Katsidis, which he should have tried to escape. I notice also, that the scores were close on 2 of the judges.
Is it worthy of the 50 bucks, yes.
It turned up the way I expected in the main event with Hopkins/Wright. I knew the fight wouldn't be too exciting, but at least it was competitive. The undercard fights with Katsidis/Amonsot and Linares/Larrios were good enough for me. Katsidis and Amonsot put up a FOTY canidate and Linares showed that he could be a star in the making. I was impressed with him and had heard about him before in boxing magazines, but I didn't realize how tall he was. He dominated Larrios and put him down, only the third guy to do that. It seems like he's got some big time fight in his future and I look forward to watching him more in the US.
I'm proud to say that I knew this fight wasn't going to be anything special and didn't waste the money. The next ppv I'll buy will be the Hatton-Mayweather "Super fight."
