after watching roy's fight against hanshaw he did show some flashes of his old self.. but i also notices how often he would get backed into the ropes and though he did block alot of shot to the head, he was gettin tagged in the body quite a bit and eventually some head shots were slipping in.. hanshaw had a good work rate and style wise so does glen johnson.. i think glen johnson probably hits harder and applies even more pressure.. also roy still does have some hand speed but isnt as accurate, as lateral as he once was obviously.. he also doesnt throw the flurries of punches he would throw to back people off him when pressured.. i believe if roy wanted to win the fight he would have to keep it in the middle of the ring and utilize the jab, but i do not think he has the energy to sustain that kind of gameplan for a full 12 rounds.. so i dont know if roy can win that fight at this current stage of his career if they were able to have a rematch.. i would go for Roy but im not too sure if he would win
This depends heavily on how willing Roy is to throw and not cover up on the ropes. Roy can get a UD if he's overcome the confidence problem, but if not then Glen will outwork him. Roy has the tools to do it, just like he did against Tarver int he 3rd bout. Again, it comes down to Roy's mentality in the fight.
Ok but thats a good point but look at a dude who gets knocked out twice n a row and then think about how u gon feel after those fights example
I see what you are saying. Im sure alot of it has to do with the mental outlook of the fighter. Im thinking that since jones has had a couple of fights since the johnson loss, that his frame of mind should be ok now.
again we disagree. Did tou ever see lennox lewis-oliver McCall 2. How bout lewis-Rahman 2? I believe the 2nd time around was quite different than the first. Both were after Lewis had been starched the first time.

I disagree once you are knocked out by a guy you cant fight him with the same aggresiveness u fought him wit the first time b4 u were knocked out. Glen Johnson has a mental advantage over Roy and he left roy on the canvas for almost 3 mins thats devestating.
I say Glen wins by decision this fight. ex did u see how roy fought Tarver in Tarver Jones 3

I saw it and had RJj winning a close fight. Take out round 10 when Tarver wobbled RJj and its a win. You cant win a fight by fighting the last 30 seconds of the round and thats what Tarver did that whole fight. After RJj got hurt he came back and won the last 2 rounds...remember him in the corner after the wobbly round? Roy was like "hes gassed" or something. RJj came out strong and Tarver was back peddling. Politics did that fight in. Just like SSM.Forrest II...same fight. Once you lose for the 1st time the 'comittee' puts a tag on you as being exposed and market value goes down. Next fight is close? Guess what...you lost!
Its biz man...take some college level biz courses and you'll see what I mean or ask anyone in top level management...thats the protocol...lolz. "Your only as good as your last sale." Sound familiar? Boxing is no different...check this out: "Your only as good as your last fight." Thats how the big wigs see it. If Margy gets in close fight for his next fight....guess who the judges are giving it too?
Thats where the fix goes in boxing more than any other place...
ref's...judges...fighters...in that order
I totally agree. Roy whups Glen easily now.

Two things. If Roy does what he CAN and what he HAS to do, he COULD beat Johnson. Second of all, not a LUCKY shot from Tarver to Jones, it was a good shot. BIG difference.
Man Glen Johnson would bust Roy up right now... I repeat YOU WILL NEVER EVER SEE THE OLD ROY JONES AGAIN... I had no doubt that roy would beat hanshaw...he is just a wild punching bully type fighter, but not skilled enough or mentally matuer to beat roy jones, but skill managed to get roy to the ropes... That's slow ass Johnson's game, roy will never beat johnson off the ropes and no longer has the skill to keep it in the middle of the ring... Roy needs to drop down in weight or retire, because he simply doesn't have the fire power to hang with any real contenders or champions above super middleweight...
he might have chance since johnson is almost 40 years old, but i'd still say its slim... roy doesnt wanna go into another coma...
so is roy.
but i think this time around roy can beat glen if he fights smart like he did against hanshaw.
Roys got more than a chance. If he hadnt taken that fight 3 months after getting snowed by Tarver he woulda won easy. 3 months aint enough time to recover properly.
Roy wins the rematch easy.

roy would get beat by johnson again, probably in the same fashion too. johnson applies too much pressure, throws non stop, and although he's 39-40 years old now he's still on top of his game. his last fight against griffin he was a machine, griffin was a hard nut to crack for anyone with his defense and solid boxing skills(although older, still in the top 10). johnson did his work and wore out griffin until stopping him, johnson would do the same thing to roy jones. johnson is the fresher of the two in this stage of their careers and johnson has a tremendous work ethic which would wear out roy jones until johnson stretched jones out again.
if they fight again, which in roys case would not be the best idea unless he would want to get beat again, johnson would out work jones and win by either UD or by KO, again.................
I think a case could certainly be made on Roy's behalf to beat Johnson so long as he's mentally up for it. I don't think he should fight Tarver ever again though.
He wasnt even himself in that fight.. It was shorty after the lucky shot KO from tarver... he was gunshy from the opening bell.. he has all the tools to beat johnson.. its just a question if he fights him right.. But im hearing Roy wants to go back to 168..
It would be hard for Roy to go in to that fight with the confidence to let his hands go. He would be so worried about getting caught with that right hand again that knocked him out before.
He would definetely have to keep that left hand up all fight and not give Glen the opening with that same right hand.
I don't think Roy should ever fight a fighter like Johnson. Johnson ended Roy the first time and I don't want to see him ruin him and maybe some more than just that next.
But it be nice for him to be the boxer who beat everyone he has faced even if he's loss to em before.

i agree with that analysis. roy would have to break that mental barrier though if he were to fight johnson again.
