It was a close fight, sure roy jones won, but 117-110 and 118- 109 Was a stupid scoring, it was much closer i had it 115-112 and my brother 114-113
all my respects too roy jones, because it was a pretty good performance for his comeback of that layof. And all Respect to hanshaw, who prooved too be a warrior and a classy guy
Good point. I was worried if he would ever get past that fear of getting hit. In the 3rd Tarver fight ,i thought he easily could have won the fight, had he let his hands go more often.
Maybe he did a lot of sparring for this fight ,to try and get used to getting hit again
Roy still has a lot of his handspeed there. Maybe about 80% of it . His timing is a little off right now with his couterpunches in the center of the ring. Majority of the counershots he landed came when he was up against the ropes.
But his legs are not the same, and his ability to sustain attacks is not there right now. Maybe its because of the layoffs.
He looked much stronger though at 175 then he has looked in years
Ray, you know what I thought was most impressive? Roy Jones who has a questionable chin and past his prime battling Hanshaw off the ropes. Roy wasn't afraid to let his hands go Saturday, plus he covered up well. Thats probably what impressed me more than anything.

I'll take it from Roy fans like you and Super_Lightweight before I'll trust a boxing writer on some website. Those are the same "experts" who thought Margarito and Williams was close, so screw them.
Thanks Diego. One thing I'll say about me is when I'm scoring a fight I try very hard not to be biased. Honest to god. For example when scoring the Taylor vs. Hopkins I fight, I gave a round to Taylor that HBO said Hopkins won. If I gave that round to Hopkins I could have said I had Hopkins winning. I had the fight a draw. But I didn't think he won that round, I'm a Hopkins fan but I'm not going to lie just to make him look like the winner. To me that fight could have either been a draw or a win for Taylor. B-Hop gave away to many early rounds. Back to the RJ/Hanshaw fight, I honestly don't see how someone could have Hanshaw winning that fight. I just scored it and had Jones winning a clear cut victory. I also don't see how people could say Roy looked bad in that fight. Even if I hated Roy Jones I can't imagine seeing how he looked bad. Maybe he backed against the ropes too much, but he faught off the ropes most of time. So you can always trust that my opinion on who won a fight is not biased. If I thought Roy looked like crap I would say it and he didn't. Its funny, my dad who watched the fight with me who is a big Jones critic even said Roy looked good. He likes Roy but is one who points out the flaws if he see them. He liked how Roy faught off the ropes instead of just laying there. Hes always talking shit about how Jones lays on the ropes too much and he should change his style. He tells it like it is not matter if he likes the fighter or not. Let me say one last thing, I don't think Roy Jones looked like a prime Roy Jones, I'm not a delusional fan. He isn't as good as he once was but hes still pretty damn good. Like Michael Jordan on the Wizards. Remember how Jordan could still drop 40-50 points every now and then, Roy can still be the old Roy once and a while. Hopefulley he fights maybe two more times and then calls it a career, because sooner or later hes not going to be able to do what he did Saturday night.
While Anthony Hanshaw isn't a great fighter, he isn't a club fighter. He was a young up and coming undefeated prospect. Bottomline is that everything in life is based on opinions. I've read articles that said Roy dazzles the crowd to hes old and should retire. I was happy with the performance, but alot of people thought he looked like shit. Its all what you want to believe...

Bloody hell. Given some of the rubbish written on here I thought Jones had produced a world class performance that proved he could still compete against the best P4Pers. I didn't realise he just struggled past a club fighter.
I wish boxers like Roy, Holyfield, Gatti etc would give it up when it's clear they can't compete at the highest level. It's just sad.

I've read some articles where the author thought Hanshaw won. So how is this a good performance by Roy if it was so close?
1.) When against the ropes he didn't just lay there and not throw back.
2.) He showed that he still has blazing handspeed and decent agility
3.) He seemed to have the fire back to win. When Hanshaw wanted to battle, Roy was willing to battle with him. You could tell Roy wanted to win the fight. He was focused.
4.) In the 11th round the combination he threw was insane. Roy is still real fast at times.
5.) Hes beat a man who was undefeated and 9 years his junior.
I agree with the 117-110 scoring. Even though Hanshaw got Roy along the ropes ,i thought Roy did a good job blocking a lot of his shots and counterpunching him. Kinda similair to Floyd vs Oscar. Only a little worse.

Based on your posts, I think you know enough about boxing to know that Roy won the fight, if you had watched it. Hanshaw didn't land anything big, but he won some rounds purely because he was being agressive. Roy was using the rope a dope technique, and letting Hanshaw tire himself out because he wasn't landing anything cleanly anyways. My only negative comment about Roy in this fight, was that he used to ropes too much. Thing is though, he was fighting well off the ropes and landing some huge counters, in fact a few of those counter shots are what put Hanshaw on the canvas. Roy looked good considering his age and in inactivity. He was showboating a little bit, but he was actually backing it up by fighting.
i personaly think it was a hard fight to score. i had rj winning overal but he lost some rounds because hanshaw was so aggressive even though he didnt land many shots at all. Rj landed almost all he shots but through a ton less. Good perf though. Hopefully rj gets one more tunefight before he fights tito.
i agree hard too score like de la hoya vs. mayweather, it was pretty hard for me too score.
I actually thought RJJ won about 8 or 9 rounds. Even when Hanshaw trapped him in the corner not too much was landing. For every 4 that Hanshaw threw that hit RJJ's arms or gloves, Roy would counter with 2 that would land flush.
But if you want to talk about horrible scoring, you need to watch the 'Smoke" Gainer fighter that took place before the RJJ fight!
I agree. I thought Hanshaw won some rounds just off of agression. Everyone was there to see Roy though.
Hanshaw's entrance was garbage IMO. Roy's would've been cool if he didn't have that gladiator outfit on. It almost looked as bad as when Floyd wore it and people were trying to hold him up.
