Willie Limond claims he was robbed of his Commonwealth lightweight title against Amir Khan on Saturday because he believes referee Marcus McDonnell gave him too long to recover from his sixth-round knockdown.
Khan, 20, only just managed to survive after the Glaswegian put him on the canvas but recovered in impressive style to regain control of the fight in the following two rounds.
Limond failed to emerge for the ninth round after being pulled out by his corner with a perforated ear drum and a swollen jaw.
However, Limond told The Herald that Khan should have been counted out.
"I'm sore, not because of the damage I did but because I have just watched a tape of the fight." the 28-year-old said.
"We sat in front of the telly. Billy Nelson (trainer) timed it.
"Thirteen seconds - the time it took the referee to count Khan to his feet. Not nine. Not even 10.
"I couldn't believe it. I still can't.
"He should have been counted out. No question.
"He was out on his feet, although he'll more than likely deny it.
"His eyes were all over the place. He had been counted out. Only not by the referee's timekeeping. There's no debate.
"I've gone from being angry with myself for not finishing the job to angry to what I have just watched on the telly.
"There's no point in appealing. The fight's over. I lost. Only now I know I didn't. I'm gutted."

I remember thinking that it was quite clever of Khan to be honest. Got up too quickly because he was a bit embarrassed about being knocked down and then took a knee to compose himself. He didnt 'go down', just took a knee. 13 seconds by a clock isnt particularly long for a referee's 10 count. They will usually count much slower than an actual second just so as to compensate for the fact that they might be excited and it'd be dreadful to count someone out in a title fight because they didnt get up within 8 seconds.
Limond can blame nobody for not finishing the job and for completely neglecting his own defence after having Khan prime for the taking. They showed it on tonights news, from the moment the timekeeper started the count it was 13 seconds, the referee messed up after taking up the timekeepers count, anything to help the star fighter. Kahn didnt get up until the count of 10, the ref should have stoppe dit as soon as he went to the knee, its not rocky, you dont get up and go down again, poor referee, even worse one in the skelton sprott fight, Mickey Vann is the pits.
It was me that asked. So the rule is no matter for what reason if you get up and then return to the canvas its over. Interesting I guess I have never really seen a guy that returned but was able to actually get up and continue.
Its Like Hugging though.. Its one of those rules.. That seems to be open to interpertation
I have to agree with this.. To me it seemed like He realised he still had a few seconds before the ref reached 10 and decided to take advantage....
For whoever asked.. YES IT is a Markers Of Queensbury Rule.. if a fighter goes down a second time on the same KD... the fight is halted and a KO is Declared

Sorry to keep picking on your posts,
It looked like he was very badly hurt, got up too soon, knew he was unsteady and therefore took a knee, thats what it felt like when i watched it live, i shall give it a watch above now.

Khan thought he was pushed down and rushed up quick, thought he was in a state where he coulda been knocked the fuck out. Limond's stupid ass had him but didnt finish the job. Too bad.
Thats what I felt when I watched it live. It looks a bit less likely watching it again, but then I dont see what he could've been doing as an alternative.
I'm not sure. If he was going down indicating that it was a push, or picking something up off the floor, or for some other reason...I literally have no idea why he went back down to the knee,

I'm not sure. If he was going down indicating that it was a push, or picking something up off the floor, or for some other reason...I literally have no idea why he went back down to the knee, but he was talking to the ref and the ref seemed to understand why he went down, so I can only assume that it was a judgement call.
It must be pointed out that Limond didnt complain about this, only about the slow count. So you can only assume that he didnt have a problem with it.
The fight should have been OVER when Khan went back to his knees.. The ref shouold be sacked.. everybody knows this rule.. :nono:
But Khan has already been SO overhyped.. Him losing is going to make a LOT of people look very bad..
Is there a rule that if you get up and go back down that it is automatically over? I was under the impression that it was left to the ref's discretion and most of the time (ie. Zab Judah) the guy is so out of it that it is the right call. I watched the replay and while Khan was clearly rocked and KD, he intentionally went back to a knee to compose himself during the count, he didn't fall back down. Then when he got up he actually seemeed pretty clear headed and even landed some decent punches towards the end of the round. If he was as hurt as Limond claimed he was why didn't he just jump all over him and finish the fight. I have nothing invested in either of these guys but from what I saw it looked pretty legit.
Upon repeated viewings it seems hard to tell WHY Khan went down to one knee.
Yeah But why doesn't matter... he went back down.. The fight should ahve been called....
alot of boxers cry after losing...
Antonio Margarito: "I was Robbed of The Win"
Willie Limond: "Thirteen seconds - the time it took the referee to count Khan to his feet. Not nine. Not even 10"

Agreed. Apart from the fact that Khan was being stupid trying to finish the fight after just having been knocked down and completely let his defence go...he actually seemed to recover fairly well.
wasn't as bad as i remembered
You're right. This was not as bad as I first viewed it. Khan even got him with an uppercut after being knocked down. Limmond has only himself to blame. He couldn't finish a kid off. Pfffffttttt.
I thought it was over at the time. I'm sure I remember the crowd thinking that too.
Everyone in my front room did.
I didn't think much of it though, when the fight continued. I assumed he was arguing with the ref about the 'push' but I mean, everyone saw it in his face that he knew he was fucked.
