People say that williams was throwing pity pat punchs, williams doesnt really throw punches for power, more for output and mixes hard shots with weaker ones, but in the first six rounds williams speed and punch output confused margarito, williams landed good shots early in the fight, but nothing that really hurt margarito, I was worried in the 11 round but williams chin held up, he needs to work on his defense though most the bruises, and that cut happened in the 11 round.
All he had to do differently was win the 12th round. Early in the fight the speed difference was too great, he waited until Williams slowed down. So starting earlier may not be an option.
when he realized that he wasn't going to get past that jab and have to settle for the sporadic body shot, he should have turned mexican, got dirty and rough-housed paul, a lot. that would have disrupted pauls rhythm a lot and opened up more opportunities for margarito.
how you just gonna let him take the title away from you like that? i mean without you doing anything, marg?
well he should of came out throwing bombs from da start since opening bell,
when he stepped up the pace it was too late, but i don think margarito can beat williams in a re-match
He COULD have started to take the fight a little more seriously before the 6th round...
Yeah cuz he wasn't doing shit until late. And he should have fought harder in the 12th. He gave Paul the last round. He should have known Paul throws a crazy amount of punches. Once he found out Paul couldn't hurt him I would have been rushing in trying to throw haymakers. Paul did hold too much though.
I think he got caught off guard by Williams' high punch output and simply didn't adjust quickly enough. If he had started quicker like above poster mentioned he easily could have won the fight.
that seemed to be part of it.
I think he underestimated the effect on the scoring that Williams 100 plus punches would have and he let Williams take an early lead when he should have jumped on him from the start. Margarito started slow and wasnt aggressive for whatever reason. Rematch? I dont see Williams camp having any of that.
I think he was surprised and overwhelmed with the sheer punching output of Williams and maybe he hoped that it would sub-side, instead he had to force the issue but was too late in doing so.

That is a fair assessment. I think he got caught a few times early and he respected it. But some steam came off those punches by Williams mid way through the fight so he took more chances.
Could it be that he washit with a punch that made him respect Williams, so he did not come in earlier?

I think he realized that the shots Williams landed weren't hurting and he was still tentative until the sixth round. A rematch would be a different fight, but does he deserve one? Williams shouldn't be penalized for Margarito's apprehension.

Honestly the physical advantages that Paul had were hard for him to overcome. If anything maybe have started of quicker and like EvilSaint said go to the body earlier.
.....win....:pat:
lol but seriously, he could of cut the ring off more, but thats about it i think he fought well and so did paul, jus a lot better than marg...
