I was hoping this would happen, since I always knew he was overrated, and would much rather see Cotto in with Mosley, which would undoubtedly be a better and more competitive fight.

What does that now make Cotto?
Margarito wasn't exposed. It's hard to fight someone who's throwing 100 punches per round. I think Margarito did a good job against Williams and won 5 rounds clearly. There was one round that I thought was even, maybe the 6th, I don't remember, but it was a close fight. Also, round 12 was a close round until the last 40 seconds when Williams imposed his style (good job on him because I thought Margo was on a roll in the previous 3 rounds).
man margarito was robbed blind. no way williams won the fight. all he did is hug the entire time and run like a coward. i gave margarito 7 rounds.
I don't think he was robbed blind, you just judged blind.
I'm glad he lost though just because some of his internet fans. But he fought hard last night. And I would say Clottey exposed him more so than Williams did. But props to Marg for staying in there and fighting the whole way.
How the hell can a fighter be 'exposed' after being a top fighter in a division for years
Margarito wasnt ever exactly FEARED...but he was one of those fighters that people arent running after to fight...He is a very strong puncher, one that tries to break you down and beat you down the stretch, and has a hard head and plenty of drive.
He has a very good chance in many fights if youre unprepared or not having a great night...and with all his critics, a fighter wont get a ton of credit for a win over Marg. Hes a big risk low reward fight...

Williams did not look like a pitty pat hitter to me. He was throwing long hard shots. Maybe Margarito could win a rematch if he figured something out about Paul late in that fight...but either way, Margarito won't have to worry about that crazy reach vs guys like Cotto, Hatton, Mosley, etc.
good point....and it seemed like the ref was eager to take a point away from Williams for holding...the clinching was initiated by Margarito at times also...and if Williams misses a punch and leaves it out...it looks like holding...the ref, the crowd, and even the California judges could have robbed Williams...but he dominated Antonio "Smiley" Margarito so clearly...
Ricky the Hugger Hatton
Miguel the nutcracker Cotto
and Antonio "smile too much while fighting" Margarito
They should all go on UFC and hug, cupcheck, and smile on the ground in the Octagon...
UFC is cool though cuz of Randy Cotoure, Rampage Jackson, Rashad Evans, and Tito Ortiz...Wrestling and punching is what I'm all about...the other stuff like Judo is gay...unless it's BJ Penn breaking arms and choking rednecks...ha
Marg-PBF would likely be a lot like tonight. Close and fun to watch but with Floyd likely to win. Never gonna' happen though and Mayweather has his work cut out to hold off this awesome class of welters.
Williams beat Margarito in a completely different way than Mayweather would. The fact that Clottey and Williams dominated the early portions of their fights with Margarito tells me Floyd wins a wide decision because he is way faster than either of those guys. Margarito wouldn't win a round.
I was sick of hearing everyone say he could beat floyd but that is floyds fault for not fighting him even though I know he can beat him!!! I would still like to see floyd fight Margarito!!!
Well maybe I haven't been following Margarito as some others, but the only thing I remember him by is struggling with Daniel Santos, struggling with Joshua Clottey, and losing to Paul Williams.
Take that as you will, but I never understood the fuss over this guy.
point well taken,,,could you imagine what PBF would have done to Margarito...
PBF has way more speed than Williams but Williams would give anybody trouble...any word on Hatton vs Mayweather?
there are no rematch clauses for fighting mandatory opponents. it's why Valuev didn't rematch Chagaev and Briggs didn't rematch Ibragimov
o shit.

Not to change subjects, but people who find Corrales personally objectionable due to his chucking 90 pound pregnant women down stairs and getting .25 drunk on a motorcycle and leaving his kids and wife drenched in debt aren't all wrong.
i'd love to see a rematch but i dont think paul's people want that. he got a beating in there even though he won. another fight like that can take years off your career. was there no rematch clause in the contract?
