This is a fight we might see in the near future and it would be a huge fight because of Cotto's PR following and obviously it's Oscar.
But who do you think would win this?
I can see De La Hoya getting an early TKO because of Cotto's shaky chin.
But if the fight goes deep Cotto will take over.
Ready for another bet against the robot?
cotto just wants to make that big cheese he will get it in june in a loss against de la hoya as for mayweather cotto like it or not it would be sorry boring ass fight so all you pbf haters find roberto duran or sugar ray to beat pbf because i don't see it happening
I'd love to see this or any other big match-up around the welterweight div. I just hope dlh knows what he's doing going back to 147 after being higher for so long...in recent years, weight dropping hasn't done many favors to RJJ, the Tarver, recently Alan Green. We'll see...
I hope Floyd does retire so Oscar can clean up his leavings in the welterweight division, do it with style, and leave Floyd a forgotten relic of boxing's dark ages.
I don't think Cotto has a HORRIBLE chin, BUT, De Le Hoya has a NICE left hook. De La Hoya has a decent chin himself, meaning he can stay in there for a while with Cotto swinging away. If he hits Cotto (a guy who only has a decent defense) enough with those shots and lands a couple of good shots, he'd be my pick. Cotto, would tear his ass up though if the fight goes passed 9 or 10 rounds though. My personal opinion.
this fight probably wont happen. 1 because DLH cannot go back to 147 and 2 because Cotto has lots and lots of options at 147 and probably wont fight yet at 154. that said, This would not be a smart fight for DLH to take at this stage in his career, nothing to really gain, and he would be facing a guy with tons of power to the body a very good and powerful jab, much like Quartey's, and nonstop energy, boxing ability and true grit. De la Hoya would have a good chance in this fight but I would make Cotto the favorite.
Yo freedom, I read on "BoxingNews" that De La Hoya "is" back at 147!!! rumor has it he's after Ricky Hatton.
Myth # 1.... Cotto has a weak Chin...
He has HOW many KO losses to substaniate this claim????
None... thats how many
he has been Knocked Down ONCE in 30 Fights..
he has been staggered a few times.. Could you maybe credit whoever HIT him with landing a good punch instead of trying to discredit someone who shows that is only what we all are.. Very Human...
You picked Cotto by KO? If anyone would get KO'd I believe it would be Cotto. How many times have Oscar been rocked? Now how many times has Cotto been rocked? Cotto may not have the weakest chin but sure not the greatest.
dE lA hOYA BASED ON cOTTOS cHIN AND bASED ON cOTTO mAKING mALIGNAGGI, A SOFT PUNCHER, A STAR, dE lA hOYA AINT NO JUDAH, EVEN AT THIS AGE, jUDAH HURT COTTO AND JUDAH IS AN OK FIGHTER THAT HURT COTTO A BIT, mANY FIGHTR HAVE HURT COTTO,
All y'all are talkin' about DLH's big left hook. How about Cotto's left hook? In recent fights who has had more success w/ their money punch, Cotto or DLH?
You guys are beyond dumb if any of y'all buy another DLH PPV. DLH is only gonna do two things----> He's either gonna run around the ring to a lackluster victory or defeat and blame it on whoever his coach is gonna be for this possible match-up, or when he senses or feels that its going to be an uphill battle, he's gonna find another way to quit!!
LOL how many times has he done this??
I like cotto he is one of my favs but i dont know if his chin can take what dlh would have to offer!!! Cotto will be very good in the later rnds but can he out box dlh???
your kinda putting a lot of weight on DLH being able to throw that perfect MAyorga punch, I dont see that happenin and in fact I think once Cotto starts damaging DLH upstairs and down DLH will begin to shutdown and become even more flat footed than he has recently been which will only make things snowball. DLH fights in spots due to a lackof stamina and Cotto will not allow him this luxury, probably wear him down and make him take big chances he isnt used to taking. I see your points tho
there is no need for the perfect Mayorga punch. Mayorga has (had?) a serious chin, Cotto was hurt and put down by Torres (OK...), wobbled by Judah (OK...), hurt badly by Corley (CORLEY?!?!?).
Oscar is still better than all of the above, with the possible exception of Judah he is on another planet. Oscar KOd 154ers, Cotto was hurt by 140ers.
However I also see the possibilty that Cotto fights careful in the beginning and chops down Oscar's body. If the fight goes past round 7-8 then it's all Cotto's.
Oscar would destroy Cotto. Besides the size advantage, Cotto isn't going to avoid him all night like Mayweather, he'll engage Oscar. That's going to work in Oscar's favor and that left hook will mean good night for Cotto. Seems like a silly match up to be honest.
No, I think De La Hoya would be taller/rangier but not particularly bigger.
The advantage for Cotto is the bodywork and inside fighting. Oscar has a great chin, but he seems susceptible to bodywork
The advantage for Oscar would be that he would tag Cotto at some point and most likely hurt him. Rewind back to Oscar's past fights (recent ones, too) and you know Oscar is a great finisher. On top of that he has faster hands and better skills on the outside.

Yea man, unless your Chuvalo these days you got a "weak" chin lol
not in the execution or how he throws it but the power behind it, this seems to be a punch he has been developing recently and really was a huge factor in the Zab fight. How many orthodox boxers can even land their jab on a quick south paw let alone land as accurate, effective and hard as Cotto did on Zab all night. I assume you think De la Hoya's size advantage would be too great for Cotto?

I agree with most of what you typed (except I would favor De La Hoya to catch Cotto a la Torres, Judah, Corley and finish him) but there is one statement i find wildly inaccurate... Cotto has a jab much like Quartey?!?!? come on...
