What I meant by Lamon being unable to see is that his eyes were completely closed from swelling. Look at any pic after the fight, Lamon's eyes were completely swollen shut. Buddy told him that he was stopping the fight, you listen to your corner. End of story, that's boxing and how you stay alive.
your wasting your time trying to argue with this fool. the guy is just an iditotic coward with a cold heart. smack him with an open hand and he'd probably fall to his hands and knees yet he has the audacity to criticize brewster who's taken more punishment in his career and in that fight alone than 99% of us on this board combined
I'm not trying to start a fight with you, but Brewster after the fight said NOTHING about his eye and even denied eye problems. To come out now and start saying stuff means he realizes he messed up on Saturday and wants another chance, which I don't think he should get. It's not an excuse if your eye is damaged. He could have said it, but he didn't because it wasn't bothering him. Don't tell me he didn't want to taint Klitschko's victory the way Klitschko tainted his because I don't buy that at all. Lamon's a nice guy, but if you're really experiencing an injury like THAT, you say it. An eye isn't a broken finger or a hurting shoulder. Without your eye, you can't fight.
Lamon can't come up with anything that we can't shoot holes in. I have no problem with him quitting, but to come out now and say it was Buddy who made him quit it nonsense because he could have agrued if he wanted to. If you're going to quit, fine. Quit and don't say anything more about it. But don't do this.

If a man can't see, then a man can't fight. Being sans-vision complicates a lot of things.

No, not relative to size it isn't. Freitas is a little 135lber. Yeah, a jab from Klitschko could kill him, but don't you think a 230lber can take Klitschko's jab much better? Pound for pound, Corrales was the hardest puncher on the planet.
True but what I actually meant to say was that the both Freitas and Brewster took an equal amount of punishment IMO. I mean...Brewster coudn't see...he took punishment from round 1.
Freitas was actually winning that fight then Corrales came on strong in the middle rounds.
Sure a 230lb Brewster can take Wlad jab but lets not forget the eye problem he had and was just recently medically cleared to fight.
I think what seriously discouraged Brewster from continuing the fight was the end of round 6. If you watch it again, Wlad threw 2 very nice right hands, one of which pushed Brewster back even though it landed on his gloves. He knew that Wlad is going to turn it up even more next round, since Steward said that Wlad will knock Brewster out in 7th round way before the fight. Can't blame him, he knew what was coming. Is anybody here going to stand in front of a rushing freight train and not jump aside because of their pride?
Did you not write an article where you quoted Brewster as saying he was willing to die in the ring? That was not a fighter willing to die. He didn't even try. It's one thing if he attacks and gets hammered with counter punches, but he was never on the offense in that fight for even 3 seconds at a time.
The man was utterly outclassed by a vastly superior technician. That kinda stuff happens. Lamon listened to Buddy, it's only in Rocky movies in which fighters ignore their corners. That and Diggstown, in which the dude catches the towel in the air and throws it back.
I'm sorry you were disappointed by the lack of a violent and painful conclusion. Do you want to see a man die in the ring? I have Leavander Johnson-Jesus Chavez on VHS, I can send it to you.
What on Earth would be the point of continuing the fight? There are just some sick people who want to see someone get hurt bad. Either that or they want to see a dramatic display ala Gatti (One more round, as Gatti proclaimed with Mayweather, even though it was absolutely ridiculous). Everyone is human, even boxers. I wish everyone who talked shit about boxers whose corners stopped a one-sided thrashing would get in the ring.
More often than not, it's been fat guys with unrealistic views and perspectives of boxing and fighters who make these outlandish claims of "Oh, so and so is a bitch because his corner stopped the fight because his eyes were completely closed and he had a detached retina. If he woulda died, I would've made a thread about it, however."

Exactly. The fans dont give a shit about the fighters health or well being. They only care about exitement at that exact moment. I dont know how anyone can say fighter quit in the ring when he keeps getting up to go into each round and take a beating...
You wanna see a fighter quit in the ring...go watch Freitas fight.
But Lamon Brewster didnt quit that night. Good Point Sensation.

Yah but getting hit by Corrales and getting hit by a Wlad 245lb Jab is a big difference...especially when your retina was previously detached. The Wlad big right hand was also landing...
I have respect for Freitas in the Corrales fight but in the Juan Diaz fight he simply couldnt hack it anymore...

Actually, in the fights where Freitas quit he was probably taking more punishment than Brewster. Certainly in the Corrales fight. I have a lot more respect for Freitas for getting hit by a bag of bricks to the face and getting up three times than for Brewster getting jabbed to death.

Seriously, Brewster quit and that's all there is to it. He heard the ultimatum and didn't try. What's Buddy supposed to do? The camera has him saying he'll stop it. Is he supposed to let it go on and look bad? Brewster LET McGirt stop it. Even Gatti wanted to continue after the Mayweather pasting for 6 rounds. Brewster let me down big time. If you fear for your life, don't get in the ring in the first place. Just get out of boxing because nobody is gonna want to see you again after that performance.
RAESAAD what's this rubbermatch nonsense you're talking about? You really think anyone would ever want to see that? Hell no.
....Diego and Jack are absolutely right. Brewster quit in that fight. He didn't want any more abuse. Buddy told him he was gonna stop and Brewster didn't say shit in protest. Wlady beat the courage and desire right out of him. He talked that bullshit about dying in the ring before the fight and then he says he didn't want to die in there after the fight. Wlad kicked the shit out of him and made him quit.
I agree, Brewster is the kind of guy who would go twelve rounds just getting beaten up all day. I sometimes get absolutely frustrated with hearing fans who have never been in the ring or taken a punch talk about their own disappointments, when a fighter is getting the living dogshit beaten out of him and his corner decides enough is enough.
Arturo Gatti is a great warrior, willing to die in the ring. Really, I know this for a fact. On the other hand, Gatti will be disabled in the next 2 years. The price for appeasing fans I guess? Will you donate money to his family?
I didn't think so.

McGirt would have stopped it anyway had the fight gone one more one sided round. Do you really want to see Lamon get seriously hurt in the ring ?
Had McGirt "NOT" asked Lamon if he wanted to continue or whatever he said...he would have kept going out there and taken punishment.
dude, he never even threw a power shot at Wlad that had a chance of landing. he wasn't fighting period. we aren't criticizing Wlad for doing his job or even saying Brewster had a chance for that matter. we're criticizing Brewster for NOT TRYING.
I think he did the best he could. wald was just pumping the jab too often and moving side to side so brew could really never get set to throw that great left hook. it was pretty much the same as the first time except wlad didnt gas and stop throwing punches as he did the that 5th round of the first fight,,so brew just couldnt get to him
Are you serious ? do you want to see his retina detached again in the ring ?
Brewster fought the best he could given that Wlad's jab was in his face all day. Brewster would have kept getting up off his stool and taken a beating round after round if McGirt had not pulled the plug on the fight. He has that much pride.

He's trying to put the quitting shit on McGirt now.
Though McGirt did say he was gonna stop it, Brewster was like, "Okay."

"...he abandoned his old 'relentless' style of fighting "
He abandoned his old relentless style because Wlad was jabbing him in the nose every two seconds - the best jab in the business, by far. He tried the bum rush routine, too - and it got him no place.
ww
No really he did'nt......He fought nothing like he did in the past.No to discredit Wlad because he would have won no matter but Brewster looked like his first name.....Lame....on.I will decide after seeing Brewsters next fight if I want to see a rubber match,at this point I see no sense in it but if Brewster was really just rusty and can put on a couple of nice performances I would love to see a rubber match.
