*Set before Kabary Salem fight*
My boxing career wasn't moving in the right direction I wanted it go and I wasn't getting a big fight. Hopkins wasn't biting, there seemed to be no one else on the horizon and I needed an opponent who was going to get me motivated. I was becoming disheartened and hadn't been training with my normal fire and dedication. I wasn't pulling my weight in the gym and was out drinking and socialising more than I should have been. At that stage I don't know what I was really thinking. I was just going through the motions and needed a good kick up the arse, which is when a mysterious woman appeared in a car park just as I stepped out of my car around five o'clock on a Sunday afternoon. My kids were with me and hers was the only other car in the vicinity.
'I knew I was going to see you today,' she said. 'Things are pretty bad for you at the moment but it's all going to be OK.'
I turned back towards my car because I thought this woman was crackers. She said she was a clairvoyant and claimed she had heard from my great-grandad and had this message to deliver from him.
'At the moment you're going through a traumatic time but don't worry, it's going to get much better for you. You need to set a training goal and he's saying to me "Don't let it go, everything that you've worked for. Don't let it go." This is what he's telling you, Joe.'
She could have read about my injury in the newspapers but she couldn't have known that I wasn't bothered about my training because of the divorce.
'You get up in the morning and you don't want to run or go to the gym,' she continued. 'You're becoming depressed and you want to do nothing. You're not training properly. When are you fighting again?'
My next fight would be against Kabary Salem in October.
'You need to focus.'
It was like something from The Twilight Zone. The woman had been burnt down one side of her body when she was a kid and had almost died from her injuries. She said that the experience had left her this gift. She described my great-grandad in appearance and then she left, just as suddenly as she had arrived.

Very interesting piece there. Anybody have any opinions on it? Though I'm aware what sort of fuel this may give to the Calzaghe haters, lol. Fuckin petrol man.
Anyway, I find it all fascinating, and take some belief in this area. Anybody care to comment, or discuss experiences?
Mostly yeah I would agree. But there are certain people that you have to seriously stop and think about. To atleast contemplate what we are used to out of the norm.
In this case, the woman is obviously not receiving any attention other than talking to calzaghe in a car park. She didn't mention this, he did. So I find it a fascinating story regardless, and enjoy giving it some thought.
What danny said was right I think. We're definitly so grounded in society and so up our own arses, when all we are is just dust in the span of the universe. And lucky that meteorite owned the dinosaurs.
We have to give certain things some weight. I mean, who is to say that the human brain is without a telepathic or clairvoyant power that we are yet to develop, it is being repressed by our own dismissal of belief in it maybe?
well said my friend...
I think people who say they can predict the future are really just desperate for attention.

I believe in higher powers and why the hell would someone make that up. Whether the woman was crazy or not she was put their for a reason. Dont write people off because they appear to be "crazy" by societies standards. The happiest people in the world wear cloth wraps and fish for food and don't know what a TV is. Ignorance is bliss they say. People need to get rid of their arrogance and realize you (we) are not the shit. Their is a higher power.
I don't think anyone could feel otherwise after reading the book to be honest. As SHB mentioned, it's a very honest read, and you get a great sense of his psychological state and values in a way that is not forced or contrived. It just comes across in his own words.
Spot on. It's very rare for an autobiography to be so, well, honest.
wow, is it sad I feel oddly close to joe calzaghe after reading this now???:ugh:

Bullshit!!! lol that shit cracks me up!!! I see dead people and i can see kessler kill you joe!!! Haha ha!!! RIP joe!!!
just like he killed that bitch mundine?
Yeah It's definitly an enjoyable read, but have you noticed the typos in it? Sometimes I think the manuscript wasn't proof-read. They spell Richie Woodhall as Rickie Woodhall on the sleeve for fuck sake! lmao
I'm about halfway through that book. It's an incredibly honest and frank autobiography - more so than pretty much any I have ever read. Most people use this opportunity to perpetuate any myths about them but Calzaghe has pretty much done the opposite and ripped up any preconceptions you might have had about the guy. It's the top selling book according to one bookshop chain, which is rather rare for any sporting books let alone a boxers.
Well worth a read. Best I've read in ages.
