these are 2 counterpunchers which usually make for boring fights, do you guys think there is any chance that this fight actually is a fight, or if it's just gonna be an overhyped PPV machine because these are 2 of the biggest names in boxing?
Its amazing for me to see so many so called boxing fans think this fight is not interesting!!! This will be a great fight!!! Two greatly skilled boxers!!! The sweet sweet science of boxing will be on show in this fight!!!
All people wanna see is brawls that show no boxing skill whatsoever. I think this fight will be interesting as well and I can't wait to see it. I'm glad that there is somebody out there that agrees with me.

it depends on both fighters gameplans. If hopkins fights like he did against tarver & not like he did against taylor (both fights) i think it should make for an entertaining fight, winky has been getting more offensive latley so that should make it even more entertaining!
this has flop of the year written ALL over it.
Maybe, maybe not. who knows it might actually be good. It can't be any worse than De La Hoya vs. Mayweather. Now that to me was flop of the year.
In a TRUE boxing match, the object is to take the other guy out and win the match. All you "sweet science" snobs would say that boxing is about "hit and not get hit", which is also true, but most times, that makes for boring fights. Any fighter can throw a couple of punches just to score points, then backpeddle in order to avoid being hit. Yet some of u guys would call that being a "master boxer"
Okay I see your point. That backpeddling stuff I don't like it either. What I meant about boxing is when you can break your opponent down and make them look bad. Winky and Bernard in the past have done that. Its just makes me curious on who is gonna break down who. I'm not a hit but not get hit snob. Hell nah cause if I was I would be a Floyd fan which I'm definitely not. I'm sorry I should have explained more about what I meant when I said that.
You know they always gotta act like they've always hated each other or that Bhop has always been dogding Winky, they have to do something to fuel public interest, bitter enemies makes for more sales than good friends fighting, look at Mosley and Oscar, they had to act like they didn't like each other, and now they are friggin business partners, with Mosley helping Oscar in sparring for Mayweather, c'mon!!! lol
It'll be okay at the worst.
Hopkins keeps saying he feels great in his new light-heavyweight body, and his gameplan is to make Winky fight.
And if you look at all of Winkys recent fights, they've all been exciting.
IKE QUARTEY was very entertaining, including a great 12th round.
JERMAIN TAYLOR was an amazing fight. One my favorite fights of 2006
SAM SOLIMAN was surprisingly good
and FELIX TRINIDAD was pretty good to
But on another note, i dont see how anybody can beat Wright without being active. Even if you are Bernard Hopkins
maybe if it were 15 rounds, neither guy is gonna step it up until the 9th or 10th
are you kidding?????winky is a fast starter.......................bad closer, or more like he has the fight in the bag after 9 rounds and then gets more defensive......
Winky is so right when he says stuff like people just make up stuff about him. All of us have seen Winky fight a ton but yet people will still tell you that Winky is this boring guy who is just a counter puncher and gives no action. What are people watching? He's had like 10 straight fights where he's come forward the whole fight and he throws alot of punches. He never feels a guy out or anything. He'll come right at them. I dont know if he'll do it this fight at 170 but he probally will. People forget that Hopkins use to be a bull dog and he's just started this counter punching crap since he got old but if Winky comes at him then he will get to counter. I think it will be a very good fight. I think it could have alot of action but even if it doesnt then I will still love it because its 2 pros who have mastered the sweet science and its a shame that alot of idiots dont appreciate that anymore. I hope Merchant isnt on the card just incase
I don't have much hope for this fight being exciting - or possibly even watchable - but I agree with the spirit of this post.
I've always liked Wright, and felt that he's unfairly labeled as a boring, defensive-minded fighter. Hell, he's the only one in the past two years to make Jermain Taylor look watchable!
I'll agree that it's frustrating to watch him fight knowing that a knockout is the furthest thing on his mind. His lack of killer instinct turns off a lot of fans, but to say that his fights are boring is undermining his skills. Going all the way back to the 1st Bronco McKart fight (which was a damn good fight, BTW), I can think of far more Wright fights that I've enjoyed than ones that had me scrambling for the remote.
If Hopkins' size - and fighting at 170 in general - is not a factor, then I can easily envision Wink taking this one on activity level alone. Because Wink's moving up 10 lb., is why I'm staying away from betting on this one, but if the fight is the least bit watchable, you can best believe it'll be due to Wink pressing the action.
It all depends on what you wanna see. If you wanna see an all out war then don't see it. This fight is gonna be a true boxing match. If you are a true boxing fan and you understand the true nature of boxing you will not be disaapointed.

Of course you wouldn't want the honesty and frankness of Merchant. Hypocrites have a tendency to hate Larry Merchant a lot because he has the insight and the guts to call it as it is.
But on the topic, this has the tendency to be a boring fight because Hopkins has a very effective counter-punching game and he has the power to hurt and possible KD Winky.
But let's hope most of us are wrong and it turns out to be a good fight.
I hope its a good fight too for the sake of boxing. I for one will not be paying to see this potentially boring display of 2 defensive fighters facing off.

When Winky comes at fighters its usually against undersized opponents, against people his size or bigger I see winky doing alot of counter punching and backing away from the action, I never said Winky fights where boring, I actually enjoy them because I enjoy good boxing, but he doesn't press the action like a Pacuiao, Cotto or Mosley, he's not going out there looking for that knockout he is boxing for a decision like Mayweather, he is a good boxer he uses his jab to keep space and set up bigger shots, and he extremely smart, with great defense. I will enjoy the fight, but when I say any chance of it being entertaining I mean is it really PPV worthy?
