Juan Diaz is the currect WBA and WBO lightweight champ after his unification bout with Freitas.
Juan diaz is currently set to fight the IBF champ Julio Diaz in October.
The winner of that fight has then unified the WBA, WBO, and IBF titles.
From there the winner is likely to fight Nate Campell for none of Campells titles cause he doesnt have any.
From there, the winner of that fight will HOPEFULLY fight the winner of David Diaz-Erik Morales fight this August, or whoever has the WBC belt at that time.
So by about OCTOBER, we will have 3 of the 4 titles unified, with a 4th guy lingering about.
The only thing that i can see getting in the way, is Joel Casamayor begging for a fight, and that'll delay things by about 4 or 5 months if he gets that fight. And he'd probably beat all the title holders other then Juan Diaz.
So while people are getting really excited about the Heavyweight Unification bout, you can also get excited for an exciting lightweight unification bout on the SAME DAY, i believe, as the Heavyweight unification bout. Both are good fights.
This division is one of the better ones and they have of late been very exciting. The power many of these guys now show makes it feel like I'm watching WW's fight sometimes.
