Ricky Hatton's dream showdown against Floyd Mayweather has moved closer to becoming reality after his stunning win over Jose Luis Castillo in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Mayweather's uncle and trainer Roger Mayweather says his man could be ready to reverse the retirement decision he announced after outpointing Oscar De La Hoya next month.
And Hatton would be high on his list of potential future opponents with few other rivals capable of providing the pay-per-view interest required to bankroll a Mayweather return.
Roger Mayweather said: "The only way for Ricky to get Floyd in the ring is to drive up to where Floyd is at with a big truck-load of money to persuade him out of retirement.
"If Ricky and Floyd did fight it would be one of the greatest fights of all time. There has to be enough money, but enough money will get a dead man out of his grave."
Hatton has wasted no opportunity to pour scorn on what he perceives to be
Mayweather's negative style, claiming his latest win contained more excitement than Mayweather's whole career.
Hatton took less than four full rounds to dispatch the Mexican - who had previously twice been the distance with Mayweather - with a breathtaking body shot.
And despite many shrewd judges giving Hatton little chance against the commonly accepted pound-for-pound world number one, Hatton is rightly bullish about his ability to hand Mayweather his first defeat.
Hatton said: "Mayweather might be the pound-for-pound best in the world but I think my style is his worst nightmare. I think I've got the style to beat him. He needs me like he needs a hole in the head."
Fuelled by a growing desire to contest super-fights for the remainder of his career, Hatton says he is reconsidering his previous pledge never again to step up to the 147lbs welterweight limit.
On his only previous attempt, he struggled desperately to outpoint Luis Collazo in Boston last and was subsequently warned against repeating the feat by his trainer Billy Graham.
However given the exodus of potential 140lbs rivals like Mayweather and Miguel Cotto to the higher division, Hatton is having second thoughts and now believes his future may lie in putting on the pounds.
Hatton added: "That is where all the big names are. Against Collazo I had seven weeks to move up and I didn't carry the weight comfortably and I lost a bit of mobility.
"Nigel Benn told me I really needed two or three fights to grow into the weight and given more time I am convinced I would be able to fight a damn sight better."
Hatton's advisers are currently renegotiating promotional and television deals but favour a triumphant homecoming later this year for his next fight.
if Floyd wants to make tons of money, I say fight him in his backyard @ 147...I mean it also evens out the playing field for both men....with an american ref...
because pounds currency is more than the US dollar....correct?
this would do huge numbers and both will be paid big time...and if Floyd does win, this would only make his legacy even much better...could be really legendary...
if they fight at 140 then hatton will tear pbf to pieces , at 147 however , pbf will win every time IMO.
hahaha we should have a vote poll! Cause dude that is the most retard coment I seen in this forum! PBF moved up to fight DLh what the fuk makes u think he'll lose at 140??!!! Hatton is a b1tch a$$ who doesnt want to move up 7 freakin pounds. What a B1tch

Interesting stuff.. :fing02:
Exactly, why doesn't Hatton just cut the weight like he was fighting at 140. He gains 9-10 pounds on fightnight anyway.
Hatton would be 148-150lbs in the ring anyway, same with Floyd.
C'mon Kayjay. You know if Hatton comes in at 140 and allows PBF to weigh 147, you may get to see a rare Mayweather tko of Hatton.
I agree with this, but I also think that Mayweather at 140 could tko Hatton with no problems.
That would make things fair... I mean after all Mayweather has made a career out of fighting "SHOT" fighters..
You mean Hatton???
Same Hatton who waits for his opponents to be in their 30's?
WTF is wrong with people and getting their facts out of line?
Seriously, Diego was in his prime and undefeated, does that count?
we are talking about Mayweather, a LIGHTWEIGHT who Hatton has refused to fight.
It's funny because I am not even a big Mayweather fan, but I find myself defended him more than ever.
I do not like the way Mayweather acts on camera most of the time, I did not like his past few fights, but yet I have to defend him because it seems people either want to have a go or just do not know what they are talking about, but shit, I may be wrong also so strike back at me if you must, I am not perfect, far from it.
And NO, I do not think Mayweather would be SRR or SRL.
if they fight it will be at 147, Hatton looked like crap at 147 Floyd has looked decent all the way up to 154 even if he lacks power there, if the Floyd that fought Gatti was at 140 to fight hatton it would be ugly.
Correction: It would not matter if it was at 140 or 147 because Hatton could come into the fight the same weight he comes in when he fights at 140, around 149 because Mayweather comes into the fight at about 148 on fight night at 147.
I also agree with people when they say that this fight might have to take place in England for it to be BIG MONEY.
Like he said he only had 7 weeks to move up to 147. If he had more time he would obviously be better but floyd would still win.
How does he figure that? Hes always coming down from like 185...how does 7 weeks to "move-up" factor into anything?
"Nigel Benn told me I really needed two or three fights to grow into the weight and given more time I am convinced I would be able to fight a damn sight better."
if this is the case and hatton needs 3 fights to grow into the 147 weight , this may be too long and mayweather will be shot by then , who would he fight anyway?
That would make things fair... I mean after all Mayweather has made a career out of fighting "SHOT" fighters..
I agree with this. The weight makes little difference in this fight, each guy should come in how he's comfortable. Somewhere bettween 140 and 147 is fine. Floyd's not 154lbs anyway

Don't even start that shit. Floyd went from 130 up to 154 so don't even say Hatton can't go up 7 fucking lbs.
It is not the same situation. Different styles can make it much easier to go up in weight. However, I do agree that there should be no reason why Hatton cant go up 7.
did hatton say he wants to fight now or that he need 3 fights at 147 before mayweather? if he said he needs more tune up fights then i lost all respect for this man. he is afraid of mayweather.
He said neither. He said that Mayweather is the fight that he wants next, but he knows he may not get it cos PBF is currently 'retired'.
Floyd has no problem fighting at 154 and weighing 147, Hatton could sign the contract for 147 and come in at 140 if he wants. He is probably physically bigger than Floyd anyway.

About to say the same thing. Hatton better do what he can to fight the man whose career he has challenged so.
I have no doubts, however about the outcome.
Good post Beauty my e-wife.

he said this after he got that lucky decision against collazo , but surely if he needed 3 fights back then , the same should apply now , especially going up to 147 against pbf

the fight hatton had against collazo at 147 ( which i genuinely felt that hatton lost) doesnt inspire cofidence to think he could beat pbf at that weight , or is collazo a much bigger man than pbf?
