"In a recent interview with La Opinion, Fernando Vargas said that he wants to fight Miguel Cotto. After watching Cotto's victory over Judah, Vargas said that he feels inspired to fight for redemption because of his loss to Puerto Rican Felix Trinidad. Vargas went on to say that a victory over Cotto would make him very happy, and he would hope that Mexican boxing fans would forgive his loss to Trinidad. Vargas also said, "It all depends on how I feel after the Mayorga fight, of course I have to win to have any future in this sport. If I come out victorious over Mayorga, I will definetly consider challenging Cotto for his belts."
I don't know if this has been posted... Or even if its the truth. Thats just what I read on some other forum. And since I'm a Vargas fan I won't say anything. Only thing I'll say is that people think Fernando is washed up.. I dont think he is. He'll beat Mayorga.
None the less.. A Vargas/Cotto fight would probably never happen anyways cause Vargas has to make 147.
This fight doesn't need to happen, for What? For Vargas to then claim that losing all of the weight was a factor? pfft, Cotto is passed Vargas, no need for this fight. Mosley is the man to go after
i heard vargas is fightin mayorga possibly in september. that true? also vargas now would get destroyed by cotto. in his prime, i say vargas wins cuz cotto's chin is suspect
This is false.
Vargas was asked what does he think of Miguel Cotto and he said he looked good in his fight with Zab Judah but Cotto couldn't do that to him if they fought.
That is all.
but as far as vargas fighting cotto, lolz naw that would be a waste, cotto should move on to better fights, not messin around with an idiot mexican shit talker,( i can say that cause i'm mexican)

well i think it'll be a good fight for the simple reason both fighters are basically washed up and have nothing to loose, but everything to gain. and both fighters are shit talkers and like to brawl.:usa:
yea i dont think this fight will ever happen, i dont htink wil step up a weigh class or fargas would go down to make weight. it would be a interesting fight though.
good fight.....wrong timing. Vargas, pre-Trinidad, would've been an exciting bout. But hearing about the Roids, and back problems, Vargas ain't the same fighter. Can still bang, just not the post-Trinidad Vargas.
Another thing, Vargas would be dried up like a prune at 147! dude walks around at 190! Somehow don't see it at 147. Cotto would go up to 154 if it were for a Championship Title. Doubt Team Cotto would chase Vargas.
Damaged goods is right. Cotto would put Vargas in the hospital. Vargas could be on some steriod, HGH, Giambi cocktail. Who knows. It wouldn't matter. Cotto would DESTROY Vargas. What I mean is, Vargas would probably be beaten to death. Is there that big of a demand for this fight? I hope not. For Vargas and his families sake.
Vargas gave us a hell of a ride but he's endured alot of shots in his career.
You name one other fighter that at such a young age can be rocked by the deadliest finisher in the sport (tito trinidad) and come back and do the things he did against Tito. Not to mention the lowblows.
Cotto/Vargas is not on the radar because Vargas can't make 147 and Cotto isn't going anywhere near 154 for at least 2 years.
But if it was too happen I would love to see the odds and root my heart out for Fernando.
fact is vargas is a bigger draw than cotto.....so if this cat is for real i guarantee u cotto is licking his chops at this one.........1st comes mayorga see how el feroz looks then we can asses this thread later but as of now this is a dead topic......
Vargas is a forum troll and this thread is a joke
Vargas said that he feels inspired to fight for redemption because of his loss to Puerto Rican Felix Trinidad. Vargas went on to say that a victory over Cotto would make him very happy, and he would hope that Mexican boxing fans would forgive his loss to Trinidad
from that statement alone you know that this is a joke
Did this dude just say he'll "CONSIDER" fighting Cotto for the belts? Haha, as irrelevant as he is right now, he'd be head over heels jumping for joy if he's granted the privilege to fight Cotto right now.
Yeah the fight would have to be at too high of a weight to even discuss this. Hell, isn't he trying to make Mayorga fight at 162 as a catchweight? I don't think he even thinks he wants to make middleweight anymore. Look what Shane did to him at 154. I think if Vargas fought Cotto now (assuming at 154) that Vargas would be Ko'd within 5 in a non-competitive fight. If Vargas can knockout Mayorga, we can talk about continuing his career, in my opinion
