I recently read an interview with Roger Mayweather. He was sharing his sentiments on trainers, what makes them remarkable or not and why many classified as "legendary" are definitely not.
Who would you all classify as a legendary boxing trainer and for what reason?

There are lots of good trainers, although not nearly as many as there should be. Just because a man is famous, doesn't make him any better than anybody else.
There are a lot of nameworthy trainers out there but the top 2 for me in this order are as followed, Manny Steward who for some reason hasnt been brought up yet, am i missing something.... The guy tells you like it is and has trained some of the best fighters ever and created 1 of the first boxing stables that produced champions from JW to HW, he is a class act and hard on all his trainees he doesnt hold anything back and in response he has gained my respect as the best in the sport today, and if i needed a trainer id defintly be KRONKing it up first..... #2 in my opinion is also Floyd Sr. again his a guy that will tell you like it is and holds nothing back, he not only teaches from text but experience and that makes him very viable and one of my favs!
Your right Manny is probably the best in the game, but it sucked that he had a fighter like Taylor who didn't listen to him in his last fight or didn't seem to get better once he teamed up with Manny. Maybe some fighters don't fit with certain trainers.
I'm a huge fan of Freddie Roach and Nacho Beristain.
Honorable mentions goes to.... Buddy McGirt and John David Jackson(If you're a lefty like I am, he's a terrific coach)
But, If I had to pick out of all the current trainers. I would pick Freddie Roach. Because he has shown that he can work w/ all types of styles.
Alot of coaches have difficulty w/ different types of styles, it is actually harder to train someone who has a certain style down. That's why I don't get about all the talk about giving more props to the trainer who groomed someone from the beginning, when they had a chance to mold that fighter.
It's more difficult to get a fighter who has won championships to do something when that fighter has been doing different for a huge portion of their pro careers and have been successful at it. So yeah, much props to Roach... A EDDIE FUTCH graduate
Those two are my favorite as well. Roach has the bigger stable, but the work that Nacho has done with the Marquez brothers has been great.
*****, rog mayweather keepin it trill. these *****s did not create champions, they tailed on at the end and took credit. do yo research.
best trainers is mayweather sr. i'on really like dude, but he done made champions. his brothers, his son, gay la hoya. he develops fighters properly and according to they styles. gay la deifinitely don't fight like floyd.
I read it. Some of his comments could be thrown back at him. While I do think he is a good trainer you could say the same that Floyd would still win regardless of whether or not Roger was in the corner.
I don't know about that. Dundee and Atlas are guys who can take good fighters and add a lot to them. Just the little tips and shit that will help you out. Who else does Roger train?
I am not sure. Here's a link to the interview;

Angelo Dundee was a great trainer. Teddy Atlas is good despite his dramatics.
Roger contested both Atlas and Dundee, stating neither of them were phenomenal trainers.
He als stated that Roache was not a great trainer either and that Roache abandoned some of his up and coming fighters to take on DLH. He (Roger) said that no good trainer would leave an up and coming and neglect his responsibility, stating the mark of a great trainer is to take raw talent and make a champion, not get a seasoned fighter and take responsibility when he becomes a champ. (Dundee, Atlas)
A good trainer is a guy who's able to see the strenghts of a boxer and build on that, while finding ways to nullify his weaknesses.
If a trainer makes good fighters regularly, he's a good trainer.
It is important for fighters to realize that they themself have the responsibility to find a trainer who knows how to build on their strenghts.
As with all people, trainers have preferrences, and will train you the way he wants you to be. If he doesn't, he's a great trainer.
