Do you any of you think that if Roy Jones stayed at middleweight he would still be number one or part of the P4P top 10?
Oh yeah Hopkins would never have made those 20 defences if jones stayed at 160, or even at 168 he would have dominated both those divisons with ease in my opinion.
Bullshit?
Name five notable opponents he's had. Really, aside from hopkins, toney, and aguably tarver, he hasn't fought anyone. In essence he wasted his career on people that had no business fighting on the SAME CARD as him. Let alone against him! Had his talent been properly cultivated into talent, he would've not only easily KOd tarver (not outpointed, KOd), but he would STILL be reigning as the P4P king today, NO QUESTION.
That, my friend, is called WASTED TALENT.
Although Id never considered tyson for a waste of talent. You may have a point there, don king messed that man uuuuup.
lol I love it when people say, aside from blah blah blah he fought no one....

James Toney
Bernard Hopkins
Virgil Hill
Reggie Johnson
Montell Griffin
Mike Mccallum
Antonio Tarver
Eric Harding
Thulani Malinga
Eric Lucas
David Tolesco
I think most would agree that these fighters are not bums. Its just reality. Now listen I'm a realist, I know that Jones didn't always fight the best opponents but overall he had a very solid resume. And I also agree that there are guys he should have faught. Although being that I am a realist I will also say that its not all Roy's fault some of the fights didn't happen.

What was Sugar Ray Leonard doing at 35 and 36? Fighters get old at different times...ecspecially ones who depend on speed and reflexes. When Ali was 35 and 36 he wasn't fighting like the Ali that beat Liston. At 36 he lost to Leon Spinks and at 35 he pulled out a hard fight with Earnie Shavers. But he didn't look like himself...
i think a weak chin will hold anyone back from being considered number 1 but i do believe he was something special in the way he fought so differently and yet it worked so well
The single biggest waste? That's bullshit man, he did manage to win multiple world titles, make most of his opponents look like amatuers, and move up to heavyweight to capture one of the belts. He also had a very active career, unlike alot of fighters and champions. Roy probably could have done things different and accomplished a bit more, but the single biggest waste? Hell no man, that title is reserved for Mike Tyson.

I dont think the 160 part is true. If you rewatch the Hopkins fight then I think he gave him the toughest fight or RJ's career until he lost to Tarver and that Hopkins was nothing compared to a prime Hopkins. RJ only stayed at 160 until he was 25. A prime Hopkins would beat a 25 year old RJ without a doubt
no... nothin against hopkins.. but his style is made for a fighter like Roy. pot shot victory.
in his and anyone elses prime I dont think anyone in history beats him at middleweight in history. he was very strong at 168 aswell.. I think he moved up solely to make more history, and by the time he was at 175 for a while he was comfortable there.. yea he would easily be up there if was still at 160..

HELL YES.
I think RJJ is the single biggest wasted talent in the history of boxing. If he'd gotten a better trainer and managed his career better, he'd STILL be the 160 king, P4P #1 fighter that everyone would talk about.

i think if he was able to continue injecting roids up his ass he could have been unbeatnen for longer.
Its funny how his overnight decline started when BALCO went bye bye
Roy's problem is that once he got KO'd (lucky punch or whatever) he became gunshy and I think he'd struggle to dominate anywhere. Would he have got KO'd if he had stayed at 160 or 168? Who knows, his chin was always suspect IMO, but his reflexes did the work for him
What a fucking athlete. across all sports I mean, the guy is top 10 all-time across any sport I can think of in athletic ability.
I think he should of stayed at LHW!!! Jones stuffed himself by moving upto HW then back to LHW!!! He wouldve beaten Tarver without even trying before he beat Ruiz!!! But it doesnt really matter now!!! I hope he can find half of what he had at MW to get back to where he belongs(top 10 P4p)!!!
What are you guys talking about? Do you think all guys can just stay places? RJ is not huge but he's not small like Mayweather either. He moved up because he had to. No way he couldve stayed at 160 much longer. He may have been able to stay at 168 for longer but not 160
