Just made this thread to get away from another floyd discussion. I said what I had to say now its time to move on. I was thinking about De La Hoya and whether or not he should retire. I honestly think that after being a 6 time champion and fighting the best in his divisions, what else does he have to prove? It can't be for the money cause he has plenty of it. He has left his mark and fought all he could fight. Even though majority of the big names he fought beat him he still had the courage to fight them when no one else would. I just feel he should just hang it up before he ends up like one those old fighters who have no business in the ring anymore. What do you guys think.
De La Hoya keeps fighting in hopes of landing a "big name" match and retiring after an impressive win. He should've quit while he was ahead, following his destruction of Mayorga. Given that he's way past his prime, he no longer has the punching power to dispose of a quicker fighter like, say, Mayweather.
He needn't be ashamed of his record as it stands at this point. Better to quit now than risk diluting his achievements with another defeat. The last thing he wants to do is hang around for more paydays the way Roberto Duran did. Hell, were it not for a life-threatening car accident, Duran might still be getting his butt kicked today, by punks 20 years his junior!
I didn't consider him "the champion" at 160 cause he barely beat Strum and lost he lost it right after that.
He is a 6 division belt holder not a 6 division champion. DLH is barely a 1 division champion. DLH is only SMW champion after unifying 3 belts from the Vargas fight.
You can't off that cause Mayorga was a joke. I was impressed with how he did with Floyd Mayweather. Even though he lost he still better than Judah and Baldomir. I say he should go back down to welterweight and take on the champs in that division. It would be pretty interesting to see him go against Luis Castillo if he beats hatton.

there isnt a lot of stuff for him to do, but he is still a great fighter so theres no physical reason to.
