I hate hearing pepole complain about fighters who run the whole time and BOX!!!! If the creators of boxing wanted no running they would have made the ring 4 feet wide.
Lemme ask you "cut off the ring" experts this shit..

How do you stop that? Dude is running backwards and shit. smh
errr, so is that direl's problem? if i had the advantage i would use it too, all direl has to do is win fights an eventually he will get the big fights.
No he didn't. Show me where. I remember him landin combos. Taylor didn't do shit to win. Throwin 5 punches a round gets a win? No.
First of all, it was a snoozer. Secondly, while Stinks did throw more than Taylor, 99.9999999% of them were jabs from OUT OF RANGE, that did not even connect. Just look at the landed punches, 85 out of 542 (16%). What does that tell you? It tells me that Stinks was running away and flicking his jab out there but wasn't concerned about engaging his opponent.
Contrast that with Malignaggi's numbers on Saturday: Malignaggi landed 352 of 803 total punches. And when it came to the jab, Malignaggi owned N'dou by landing 193 of 486. Malignaggi landed more jabs than what N'dou landed total punches (161). That, my friend, is boxing and not running! If you haven't watched the fight, I highly suggest you do so that you may be edumacated in the art of real boxing, not running.
Moving around ain't bad if you throw punches
I really have no problem with the fact that some boxers move around alot. What I have a problem with is when they do so but don't throw any punches. Dirrell was a good example. I mean he was doing a good job at moving but the guy wasn't throwing back much. Don't get me wrong Stevens should have cut off the ring without being clinched but he didnt. Paulie Malinaggi in my opion demonstrated true boxing skills against Lovemore. He established excellent movement while constantly landing that jab and countering majority of Lovemore's punches. He even landed 4-5 punch combinations from time to time. He showed that you can still beat the crap out of your opponent without going to war with them. That in my opinion was true sweet science.
I still think that we can all agree that there is a difference between running and boxing. Paulie Malignaggi BOXED against Cotto and N'Dou, he didn't run. He basically circled around the other fighter while never being out of range himself. PBF boxed against ODLH and Castillo, again, by circling his opponent.
Cory Stinks, on the other hand, just ran like a scared rabbit against Taylor. Andre Dirrell did the same against Stevens this weekend. Jorge Arce vs. Ler was a running session; Jorge Arce vs. Mijares was a boxing lesson. BTW, ODLH ran like a 5-cent ho in the last 4 rounds vs. Trinidad and boxed the first 8. That's the difference.
I'm all for boxers, fighters who circle and jab, but I hate runners.
good post, close thread.

I though DLH did what he had to do to win, and he DID win that fight. Regardless of what the cards were.
Its not about what the viewers like or dont like but what the boxers like. Its a advantage to be mobile. You have to throw though and not just move just for the sake of moving.
Your wrong! It IS about what the viewers like. If not for us, how would these boxers get paid? If they dont entertain us, we dont pay to see them fight. Plain and simple.
Of course there is an art to what Toney did. Toney was what boxing should be. He stands right in front of you, still uses movment, creates angles, uses outstanding defense, and isnt scared to mix it up a bit.
boxing is getting in the ring with the right equipment nothing else.
that would be called ring generalship, not running, Harold Lederman said it best
" I dont like scoring potshots or running, cause thats what it is RUNNING"
That was beautiful... But when was the last time a runner packed up MSG with 20k ppl? PBF performance over DLH was a good one, but why was everyone disappointed on this fight? There's a difference between good deffense and running away and avoiding contact, Pernell, Benitez and many greats could slip and duck and also use their legs to get away without running. People pay to watch those kind of fighters NOT runners.
but some ppl dont have a problem wid the running.
standing in the trenches and just trading blows is not boxing. Boxing is the art of hitting and not being hit. Its not about hitting, standing there waiting to be hit and then hitting back. Itrs an art. Those who have never studied it will never understand the damage that is incurred during a fight.
Sure, the common fan likes to see wars. I like to see wars sometimes. But I do understand what will happen to a fighter who just stands in for wars all of the time. Arturo Gatti had to be the most exciting fighter I have seen in the last 10 years, he was a war dog. But now in his older years he has resorted back to the "boxing" skills, with movement and a good shade of defense.
A fighter who bangs all through his career will pay the price. Sure there are those who have come out of all of the carnage with little signs of brain damage, but there are many more who have stepped away many fights too late and the damage is irreversible.
What you guys have to understand is that these boxers are indeed human beings. They sweat, they bleed(and you love it) and they except damage to the mind body and soul.
Boxing is an art. Brawling I guess you could say is an abstract form of the art. So as an artist would you rather paint in a formulated and structured fashion or would you rather your opponent just take your paint and splash it all over the canvas. If my paint is my mind I would choose the structured fight.
Granted, boxing is about fighting. But boxing is not a one page book. YOu have to have defense or you most likely will not survive. You will definately need some offense. You will need conditioning and stamina and you will need balls. God gave each boxer two legs, I dont see a problem in using them.
Maybe instead of yelling at the mover maybe you should rip into the stalker. Tell him to cut the ring, tell him to go in rolling under and to keep moving forward with punches. Maybe you will tell him to throiw caution to the wind and to just get in there and chase him down. If he is unable to do these things then it could only be said that he was purely out boxed. Out boxed, get it?.........................Rockin':boxing:

yes he was winning the fight and teasing stevens about not being anle to hit him so he was doing something, stevens should of been ablet to catch him and land damaging blows, stevens could not do that so it was obvious direll was a level above stevens.
Steven's looked like a lost amateur fighter in that fight.:nonono:
What I didnt like is how he was running at times, like a little school girl with his hands up like he waas jogging making fun of Stevens. Talking shit and all of that, like he was actually doing something.

i agree the stalker should have some blame in not being able to force the fight either.
