Someone please tell me how Andre Berto is not an almost exact shadow of Jeff Lacy?
Why are you all making such a big deal about this guy when he doesn't seem to be bringing any new tools to the table?

Not even close. Lacy is more polished, throws fewer bombs and has a more consistant workrate. Both are a little immature, both fairly muscular guys with reasonably heavy hands, but not too many similarities past that.
Of course Berto has fought limited competition thus far. Look at the type of competition Pavlik was fighting less than two years ago. Lacy didn't start to step up his competition until 3 years into his boxing, which is about the point Berto is at now. And... Lacy had to advance quicker because he didn't turn pro 'til around the the age Berto currently is, 23.
Jeff Lacy took on better opponents, Berto's taking on bums only. Jeff Lacy fought better opposition early in his career compared to Berto's crappy opposition. Though they both are in two different weight classes and I don't know how crappy of a weight class Berto is fighting in.
dude chill berto is still young he will fight top people soon
Definitely not going to say he still doesn't have potential... The knockout might knock sense into him.
Point is all that headhunting and want for KOs always make a fighter worse...
Yeah well this should teach him because he came in senseless with no hands up and got dropped. He has the ability to go to the body. He just need to work on getting his hands up and punch selection. Becuase headhunting can tire you out and he'll be fighting 12 rounders soon.
I guess. A lot of good prospects fight weaker opposition in the beggining of their careers. Look what happened to Vargas he shouldn't have fought Trinidad so damn early he just wasn't ready.

I havent seen enough of his fights to really see his weaknesses, as most of his fights have been showcases against weak opposition. As far as body type and power they are similar though.
They are exactly the same.

Thanks for the reply. There are lots of his fights on youtube actually
What I see in Berto that I see in Lacy...
Headhunting
Left Hook
Power
Not much on his feet
Little combinations
Want for knockouts
Body Builder
The differences I see are
A little quicker
A little more jabbing
Being right is fun.

hes faster than lacy and unlike lacy, he has a decent jab.
but i think, like lacy, as soon as he fights some1 with a better jab, he'll be dissected.
the only way these guys are similar is that they are a bit muscles and they are both black it stops there.
Berto has blazing fast hands and quick wheels and he packs a great punch he's a great boxer puncher.
Lacy is a slow power puncher who can only fight on the inside.
Berto is only a prospect early in his carreer!!
Everyone fights bums early in their early even mayweather even de la hoya everybody.
Of course he's going to step up the competition.
If you are going to bash anyone for fighting bums it should be JCC Jr.!
jcc jr will be spoonfed weak fighters until he is 80-0 then his prospect status will be upped to semi- contender then if he is 100-0 he will become a contender.

I'm pretty much with you from what I've seen of him. There's not a lot of potential there to be successful at the highest level. He looks like a very poor man's Pryor to me.

I know Berto hasn't exactly fought tough competition, but you can definitely see his skills. He has a wicked uppercut, and has power in both hands. In the fights I saw he had variety to his game and even though he defense can be lackadasical at times, it's something he could work on. He fights at WW now and out of the prospects in that division he definitely seems to be the best.
