I think he could win, but why in the world is the favorite? Judah SHOULD win this. He is far more talented. The majority of the experts pick Judah, including howard lederman lol
Ill be rooting for Cotto, but the more i watch of Judah and what a good finisher he is, the less and less likely it seems Cotto will weather that early storm.
Urkal is very strong. Judah hits harder but Urkal is physically stronger, and how mny times has Urkal been stopped?
Kostya Tzyu broke his jaw in the 7th and he still didn't get stopped according boxrec who has him listed as losing to Cotto in the 11th which is wrong.
Referee: Frank Cappuccino
Judges scoring: Terry O'Connor (116-113), Julie Lederman (115-113), Dick Flaherty (116-112)
Weights: Tszyu 139.5 lbs, Urkal 138.5 lbs
Comment(s):
- Mandatory defense of Tszyu against #1 (WBC) and #4 (WBA) ranked Urkal.
- Urkal suffered a broken jaw in the seventh round.

Cotto couldn't hurt Urkal. Judah is stronger and faster than him. I think Judah will win, but I won't be suprised if either guy wins.
This WON'T be a walk in the park for Cotto though unless Judah fights just stupid. I don't see this fight ending in 5 rounds or less.

You're 'over-analyzing' this one Kball; go with your gut!..
Who cares who SHOULD win, it matters who will win...Judah should've won the Baldomir fight, should've won the Tszyu fight, etc...but he didn't. Talent in boxing only takes you so far.
Cotto has the intangibles which makes him DOMINATE opponents he SHOULD beat, and come back and win fights he had no business winning. This might be one of those latter fights.
I look forward to that one punch, just one average punch to Judah's chin. Then the fight will be Cotto's.
Kostya caught Zab with an absolute bomb on the button, was Zab out cold - no he wasn't, and that is the ONLY KO loss on Zabs' record. You better ask yourself, does Cotto punch as hard as Kostya? -- NOT EVEN CLOSE -- now ask yourself -- has Cotto been getting ROCKED by fighters with WAY less power than Zab, and WAY less Skill, and WAY less speed -- well - YES Cotto has been getting rocked by lessor fighters. It's Cotto getting knocked out tonight....
I just don't see Cotto getting inside to work the body. He has had success against other fighters I know - but really, do you think Zab is going to just stand there and let Cotto come in and pound the body?
Did anyone see Cotto's last fight in Puerto Rico, in front of his fellow countrymen, in his house, --- he looked like crap and everyone knows it. If Cotto couldn't get pumped up for a fight in his own backyard, with his fans going nuts - don't think Madison Square Garden is going to do the trick either.
I like Cotto, he is a classy guy. But he is in over his head tonight, and he will lose this fight, and lose badly. Sure, he has a "punchers chance" but that is the ONLY chance he has, because he brings NOTHING to the ring that Zab hasn't seen before. Cotto is NOT the biggest puncher Zab has seen, he is one of the SLOWEST fighters Zab has seen, but Zab IS the biggest puncher Cotto has ever seen, and the FASTEST fighter he has ever seen, and yes - the MOST SKILLED fighter Cotto has ever seen too. Add to it the 5 INCH REACH ADVANTAGE and it all adds up to a loss for Cotto...
I agree wholeheartedly kball. That's why I've tried to block out this fight for the last couple days. If Judah utilized his God-given ability even 60-70%, this ends in Cotto getting knocked out. But because he doesn't, you never can tell. I just want it to start so I can feel relieved one way or the other. If Judah doesn't do his thing, he deserves to have his career ended. If he does, it will be long overdue and a real shame that it had to happen against such a likeable guy like Cotto.
You almost HAVE to cheer for Cotto for taking the fight, never talking shit, and never slacking off in the ring. He doesn't have all the ability, but he is all business all the time and a good thing for our sport.
What good does it do for Judah to dazzle the world and stop Cotto only to turn around and lose to the next Carlos Baldomir the next time out?
Go Cotto
Yea i agree.
You know, if Judah does show up at his absolute best, im not gonna say Cotto cant win. Cotto is good enough Offensively and Judah at his best is bad enough under pressure u know what im saying?
But Judah is too fast, to strong, AND to big. Fact of the matter is, BOTH guys are undersized welterweights, and cotto is the smaller guy.
I guess size wont matter if hes gonna win this fight, cause hes a pressure guy and a body shot guy.
But again, if cotto shows that desire and heart that every champion should show, and WEATHERS taht early storm, he could definetly beat the best zab judah.
i just dont see it happening. Judahs to good
I think this is a genuine 50/50 fight that could go anyway, im not sure it can live up to the hype, so i made a bet on Boxing scene, i went for the outside shot and put v cash on the fight going the distance, think fight could get tactical at some stage.
Judah is a mental midget in the ring, that is a given. Anytime his plan A does not work then he falls apart. However, he is truely talented and has some of the most raw talent out there. He could give cotto big problems. Cotto didnt look so great against corley a fighter that zab handled with ease. Corley and Zab both are southpaws, so why would Cotto put himself on the line against one of the most gifted southpaws out there? Don't let Zabs low mental acuity hide the fact that he is still a dangerous fight, even for Cotto. If Cotto is not careful he might find himself getting his first L.
I tried explaining this earlier that I don't think Zab can get knocked out unless he's clocked by another monster like against Kostya. If he does get caught good though and gets discouraged he will start running his ass off which is almost as bad as getting KO'd.
Cotto wins this fight easily. Judah has stamina problems.. Plus never seen him fight while he was hurt. When a fighter gets hurt and then comes back to win that shows alot of determination. Cotto can do this. Everyone will be shocked how Cotto doesn't get rocked and dominates Judah.
"Put pressure on Zab and he can't do nothing. He only does damage when moving towards you, if Cotto applys that pressure you will see an outstanding performance, yet people will still discredit Cotto"
that's a very good point. it might be about who can hurt the other first. if Cotto lands the first good punch, it could be a long night for Zab. more reason to lean towards Cotto, who could take some shots early and come back with a vengeance later.

Thats another thing I dont get. So, Judah has more experience than Cotto. So what? Does everytime a fighter steps up against a guy who has more experience, he loses? Thats just a flawed argument.
Let me ask you. The times Judah has stepped up, what has been the outcome? We KNOW what happens when Judah steps up, we dont know what will happen when Cotto does. We will know tommorow.
It's not that the fighter with the most experience always wins. its just another factor that adds more favor to the fighter. even though there are times where the experience doesnt matter because the opponent is just that much better than them
