I was reading on another boxing/mma site the payouts for Liddel Vs Jackson...
Liddel got $ 500 000 and wud have got $450 grand more if he won
Jackson got $ 450 000 for icing the iceman lol.
And here is Mayweather vs De Le Hoya :
Mayweather - over 30 Mill
De Le Hoya - around 40 mill...not 2 sure bout that tho.:ugh:
What wud the starting Salaries B for a Pro. begginer in boxing ?
It's one thing to accuse boxers of greed, but it's the fighters who are taking the biggest risk in these events, not the shareholders. Boxers should get a greater share of the spoils, not make a pittance. Who do you think is paid more, Chuck Liddel or Dana White?
I believe that boxers lose approximately 25% of their pre-tax earnings for training, management and promotion (unless they have sold a stake in themselves previously, which is not an unusual state of affairs. Much of Don King's income is from the purses of boxers he has bought a stake in), and they are taxed on their full purse. A rule of thumb is that boxers take home about a third of their purse but their training and management fees are tax deductable as business expenses so they can claim a chunk of money at tax time. Having said that the IRS has done in a number of boxers in the past, who are often from poor backgrounds and have little feel for finances.
Who is tired of the Boxing vs. MMA thing? I wonder if they had the same arguments regarding boxing and kick boxing? Boxing will live forever, so will all sports featured in the Olympics. The UFC is a couple of broken necks, exposed bones or someone getting choked to death away from being sent back to the underground. Although I am going to enjot it while it lasts, because like the owners are counting on... " Everyone loves a good street fight.."
gary shaw started his own independent mma oraganization it starts this summer on showtime and he is representing and paying the fighters like they do in boxing to get what they should get ,also has females on the cards.. dana white was pissed and called it a rinky dink league.. but when the fighters see how much gary shaws fighters make and how he takes care of his fighters they will leave ufc
wasnt jorge solis and larios paid more money to fight manny pacquiao then those top level guys in ufc got paid?
I remember someone saying larios got 500,000, g's, and solis like 800,000 grand for his fight with pacquiao.
Maybe I couldnt see them getting that much since that is what Marquez was offered...None the less its a possibility and boxers make more money than UFC..It boggles my mind that people like to say boxing is dead or is dying and blah blah blah but the economics of the sport show its very much alive and well I might add...Its just insane how low UFC/MMA guys get paid..MMA fighters are kind of screwed since the UFC bought PRIDE which handed out big paydays, because now the guys wont have nowhere to go...MMA is ran like the wrestling industry and they just shot themselves in the foot. As long as UFC doesnt lose their tv deal and keep making new stars that way when the greed kicks in they will have another guy lined up they should do fine...With no tv deal (spike) they would be in the same boat if not worst than boxing.
Being on a premium network like HBO/Showtime hurts the sport just as much as being on PPV.
Margarito should only be compared to the curtain jerkers of the UFC. Flat out Tim Sylvia made 100k aganist Couture while Couture pulled in 250k...Those are your top level guys and they are making the big paydays that HBO BAD guys make occasionally..
Personally I I think the purses in both sports suck...For one UFC is paid to little and boxing is overpaid...8 times out of 10 boxers who are getting paid buckets of money provide more sizzle than steak and hardly justify that multi-million dollar cost....At least the UFC awards a bigger chunk of change to the winner as an added incentive...It seriously rips my fucking heart out to hear Mayweather collect 10 million dollar checks and dance the night away and we have wars with less money...More risk more reward thats business and that should stand in boxing...Boxers got greedy and are spoiled.
You really have to compare apples and apples. DLH-PBF is NOT the norm by any means. Like an earlier poster said, compare guys like Margarito and them and you'll see the gap while very large is not as bad and is closing.
Rich Franklin ex-MW champion only made about 200k in his loss. I think the entire card was a little less than 500k with about 400k PPV buys. Pride has usually had the bigger payouts with many top fighters getting 1-2 million a fight.
Royce Gracie got 1.2mil for his fight against Matt Hughes while Matt received about 450k.
I hope the purses keep going up and help attract top notch atheletes. On a side note, while top boxers fight 3 times a year. MMA fighters (even champions) fight more than 5 times a year.
i agree with the other poster... only the top 2% or so of boxers make millions, the rest make peanuts...maybe $1000 or $2000 a fight for some...
There are thousands more professional boxers than there arer pro MMA'rs..
It is much harder to get to be a world champion boxer than it would be to be a champion in the UFC.
Also elite boxing is scheduled for 12 rounds....whereas MMA is 5 rounds...
I`m not saying MMA is not tough, of course it is, but boxing is an art form where MMA is still a street fight.
Let's face it the DLH and PBF figures are no where near typical
You need to compare the purses of fighters like Margarito, Williams, Petersen brothers, just a cross section of talent
How much does a fighter who is on Wednesday night fights get ?
How much did Miranda and Pavik get ?
There is no doubt that UFC fighters are still currently underpaid but with sponsorship dollars and other income, they are doing ok
Baldomir got a million fighting Zab I do believe. Thats like 4 times as much their heavyweight champion got in his last fight.
Its like this people who are debuting as a general rule of thumb get 100 bucks per round unless you come out with a great backing and team like De La Hoya/Leonard have and actually have credibility.
The pay rate varies in boxing greatly and really depends on a lot of things and some boxers even on HBO can only make 50k but the vast majority of the top fighters make double or more than UFC guys...I can understand why the fights are longer and more grueling. But as much money as UFC is bringing in its eventually going to happen where fighters are going to start fishing out offers over seas and UFC/Pride will lose their star power.
The same thing I said 2 weeks ago about greed is what destroyed boxing is the same thing Dana White said a week ago. Unfortunately that type of mentality is already happening in the UFC with Ortiz/Leben..Its only the beginning. The guy who is in the main event should not be getting paid 100k nor should the fight before the main event be making 3k.

Dana white is a chump!!! he sez ufc is better then boxing and that he has a better product to sell!!! well if thats the case then why doesnt he pay his fighters what theyre worth!!! Tito shouldve kicked his butt!!!
Simple economics: Boxing has a larger fan base, partly due to the fact it has been around longer.
Nothing against MMA though. It has a chance to get their someday.
after taxes managers trainers sparring partners and PROMOTERs end up with 80-90 percent of boxer purses so the bottom line is a lot closer... plus mma fighters are walking advertisments with all there endorsements deals....
with ufc owning pride they will cap off salaries and fighters will no longer be able to test the market because there is none mma fighter will be owned by ufc no super salaries at all
i know that dlh got like 75k for his first professional fight being the olympic gold medalist and most anticipated boxer in that era... i've heard that regulars get between $300 and $500 for their first professional purse
Tito is 100% correct, the UFC takes in a shitload of cash through live gates and PPV's and pays the fighters peanuts. Dana White and the owners must be raking in the dough. The day will come hopefully where all the fighters will revolt and stop fighting for UFC until they get paid what they're worth. I recall a UFC card and the guys on the undercard were paid around 5-10 000. Now take into account travel, training, etc, etc expenses, and figure how much the UFC makes off PPV shows and live gates and tell me the fighters aren't getting ripped off big time!!! Dana white is a snake oil salesman and very good at his craft, his bosses must be very proud of him and their profits off the backs of these poor fighters!!!!
