Ringside melee in Hamburg! By Karl Freitag Shortly after Saturday night's fight between super middleweights Jürgen Brähmer and Hector Javier Velasco, there was a melee at ringside involving Arena Box-Promotion chief Ahmet Öner. "We had been provoked by a group of twelve 330-pound goons who followed us at every turn the whole night," said Öner in a statement. "Most of them seemed to be Nazis who have obviously been hired to beat us up. To me it's clear that I had been trapped. The attack was strictly planned." Öner said one of his friends sustained serious enough injuries to go to the hospital for a week. Universum Box-Promotion spokesman Christoph Hawerkamp denied allegations of any Universum involvement, telling SID, "Up to now, we can't yet determine who attacked who. What's clear is only that provocations had been made by Mr. Öner.....Mr. Öner had nothing to do with this event, none of his boxers were involved. We have no notion what he wanted to accomplish with his provocation." Universum chief Klaus-Peter Kohl, who was promoting his milestone 250th event, had no comment on the incident. "I must first find out what happened," he said.
