Im not totally sure but I dont think there's every really been a thread or poll about this fight. Weve talked about every possible fight around the 160-175 weight classes except this one and I think this is probally the one that is the easiest to happened and would be a great fight. We all know Calzaghe isnt dying to come to America despite what he says and we all know that Winky will fight anyone and would have no problem of going to Wales. Winky is maybe the biggest American star overseas from having so many fights over there. This is also 2 stud fighters. Everyone talks about Calzaghe fighting Taylor, Hopkins, Tarver, and RJ but Winky is the man I feel would jump on it, wont cry too much about the conditions as long as he's paid, and wont have any problem with fighting in Wales. He knows that fight would be huge overthere with a ton of people seeing it. I think if Winky wins against X or just fight well like he normally does then this could be the next fight and I would love to see it
This is one of the few guys i would pick to beat WINKY.
Cause a great workrate can actually beat WINKY, and calzaghe has an awsome workrate with great speed
Weight only affects those that let it at the end of the day it's still about skill. Just like Mayweather fought a bigger opponent it doesn't matter. Winky is one of the best fighters in the world. Calzaghe didn't even stop Lacy who was open all night. How in the hell could stop Winky when he won't land half as much on him????
Speed won't matter Winky beat Mosley twice who is one of the fastest guys in the sport.
but there is a little differnce. Floyd is a boxer and a mover so when he fights bigger guys he can still stay away. Winky on the other hand, is a straight forward fighter who walks down his opponent and applies constant pressure. There is a big differnce from coming straight forward & walking down a small Mosley then it is a big Calzaghe. His punches wont affect Calzaghe half as much and Calzaghe's size & power will affect him alot more then Shane's

Even with winky's popularity in europe, i'm afraid that the crowd's responses to joey's slapping flurries will somewhat influence the judges... punchstat will tell it all though. I think winky will win at home (like the Taylor fight) but lose a close UD or even split it
Calzaghe's chin is solid mate. His knockdowns have never been off his chin and he's barely ever had wobbly legs in his career.
He's never been seriously hurt off the chin, but he has been shown he isn't immune to going down/ Don't forget that on here "weak chin" even includes fighters not being knocked down! It's a moot point anyway, Winky couldn't knock a fly off shit so Calzaghe wouldn't be in much trouble.
This thread is weird. Mostly everyone who responded is picking Winky but the poll has Calzaghe winning by a solid margin.
Anyways, I picked Winky but it definatly isnt a sure thing as some would say. Winky looked huge at 154 but at 160 Taylor was definatly the bigger & stronger fighter so how much bigger & stronger would Calzaghe look at 168? The good thing is that Winky would have a 170 pound fight first. Winky basically has the same walk down style every fight but I think that will definatly get harder to do when your moving up and fighting bigger guys. Still though, Winky is so techniqaly sound that he'll be in every fight so it should be a great one. Winky is like Tim Duncan. The big fundementals
Although Calzaghe has shown his chin to be a touch shaky, Winky Wright has never displayed anything to suggest he would be able to capitalise on it.

Would be similar to his fight with Taylor. Calzaghe would slap him often, but few punches would land, the crowd would go crazy everytime. The judges would give him the decision, even if Winky landed more clearly.
You can criticise many things about Calzaghe but to criticise his chin is the act of someone who hasn't got a fucking clue. He's been clocked plenty of times by some big hitters over the years but both knockdowns of his career were flash ones which he was up to his feet within 3 seconds.
As for the fight, location wouldn't matter. I'd have Calzaghe to be too busy and big for Winky. Possible stoppage, probable UD.
I disagree that Calzaghe's chin is suspect. He was caught by Lacy several times and barely seemed to notice. And he's only been down once in his career, correct? Or did I miss something?
Calzaghe by UD, no matter where they fight. And Winky is not fast. His defense is nearly impregnable, yes, but he's certainly not what I'd call fast. Highly skilled, yep. Fast, nope. Winky always seems to have more trouble with quick-handed fighters who throw from odd angles. I think Joe would put more leather on Wright than anyone has in awhile, but I doubt he'd be able to hit cleanly enough for a KO.
I think Winky would win this one off the fact that he is has the better Defence out of the two!!! Sam soliman is really the only person to break his defence down and him and Calzaghe are nothing alike!!! Taylor didnt beat him either!!! Winky by UD!!!!
This fight could actually happen. Winky got a terrific reception when he was presented to the crowd at the Hatton v Tszyu fight so I think it would sell pretty well.
I think it would be a safe bet to say Winky would win by decision. Calzaghe is one of the best pound for pound fighters in the sport right now, but the only person I have rated higher than Winky is Floyd. Winky has a very disciplined, intelligent boxing style that is far less than glamarous or entertaining, but is probably one of the most efficiently utilized strategies out there today. Winky has been very impressive in the past few years as well as in recent fights and I don't see him losing to Calzaghe.
